They all were designed to cover the symptoms and signs of different types of abuse, financial, physical, sexual, institutional, etc. It also covered what staff should do if they suspect abuse of a service user, who to report it to, and the procedures to follow. Whilst I had undertaken similar courses before, they had always dealt with the subject from the point of view of dealing with children, I come from an education background, and I had never really considered that there were so many different types, particularly those of financial and institutional abuse. While I hope I will never encounter any suspected case of abuse, but if I did, I now know what actions to take.

The world that we live in is perilous and full of danger. During those times of danger, traumatic events can occur. People from all walks of life have had trouble dealing with this kind of trauma and can be either scarred or changed by it. This is especially true for children. We tend to overlook children and try to focus on adults when it comes to traumatic events. However, studies have shown that even children are affected by these problems and need assistance in getting over them. Mental health therapists and psychologists have been doing research and developing techniques on this age group that is adolescence. This essay will exhibit several professionals that are studying this matter and developing which technique is best for the children in regards to their treatment.
In my first developmental assessment, Nicole (client) was 17 years old and identified as female, Caucasian and bisexual. She was seeking treatment to address issues related to anger, fear of abandonment, and impulsive and destructive behaviors (i.e. physical aggression, cutting, purging, sexual reactivity, and suicidal ideation). During adolescence, she received ADHD and bipolar diagnoses and showed borderline personality traits. She had been hospitalized on numerous occasions and at the time of the initial assessment, Nicole resided in an adolescent treatment center. This paper will identify normative developmental milestones from young adulthood to late, late adulthood and will analyze Nicole’s life according to these milestones. Therapeutic interventions for Nicole during young adulthood, middle adulthood, late adulthood, and late, late adulthood will also be discussed.
Adolescence is the transitional period in a persons life time that links childhood and adulthood. The factors that influence development during adolescence include genetic/biological and environmental/social. There are many developmental issues that take place during the transition from an adolescent to a young adult. The issues of emerging adulthood(18-25) are characterized by new experiences, experimentation, exploration as well as new developmental tasks.
Feedback is important as it sets up targets; the person knows what to improve. It motivates people and helps them to focus. It helps identifying the strengths and weaknesses. It expresses what is important to the organisation and the job and reduces uncertainties in people.
From ages 6-11 you are considered early middle childhood. Around these ages you start changing your physical development by growing about 2 to 3 inches in height and 5 pounds in weight each year. A female body will mature quicker than the male body. Girls are slightly lighter and shorter than boys at ages 6-8, and then at age 9 it gets reversed. Around the middle childhood age the lower portion of the body is growing fastest, children appear to look long-legged. Girls end up having slightly more body fat and boys have more muscle. Between ages 6-8 the child should be able to do independent things like dress themselves, and tie their shoes. Children also start to develop more independence from their parents. Where will my adult journey start? My changing point in life will be the day I graduate from high school. I have already began changing my attitude towards life, however, I will not truly understand until after I graduate. I plan on doing what I love, while being surrounded by who I love at whatever stage in life. Some important doors will have to be opened and entered to achieve this. A couple of doors I have already went through are joining band in middle school, being in the high school marching band and becoming percussion captain. The journey of my life into adulthood I desire hinges on 5-7 major decisions.
Later adulthood is the time in life when changes in marriage, families, and peer relationships are affected the most by the loss of someone close to that person. “Most people 70 years of age or older are widowed, divorced, or single” (Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman, 2010, p.619). Losing a spouse or close friend can create a sense of loneliness, which causes depression, anxiety and the emptiness feeling can become overwhelming. Depression also leads to psychological effects that will deteriorate a person’s health causing the chance for a terminal disease to become much higher. The weaker appearance of older adults causes family and remaining peers to step up in the role of making sure the person’s wellbeing is being met. (Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman, 2010). Throughout the span of this course, a big section of time was allotted for learning about adult development. For this reason, I have decided to interview my 40-year-old father, Rick Spence, to see if he follows the basic pattern of development. The interview is focused on four major categories of adult development, the categories are as follows: Physical Development, Relationships and Social Development, Educational History and Career Development, Cognitive Performance, and Views and Attitudes Towards Aging. By going through these categories I will attempt to determine whether my father is a developing at healthy rate, or if he is simply going crazy.
There are three known major areas of study in Lifespan Development which are the Physical, Cognitive, and personal and social development. These groups have to do with age and range of Lifespan Psychology. Lifespan literally connotes from cradle to grave, in other words from conception to death. Lifespan is divided into these following age periods; prenatal, infancy, toddlerhood, middle childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, middle adulthood, late adulthood and death.
Taking a Psychology class has taught me a lot about others and myself. I have learned a lot in this class and the information I retained will stick with me for the rest of my life. The knowledge I have gained will help me in the future by allowing me to be a better actress, CEO, and mother. The most important topics I will need are Lifespan Development and Psychological Disorders. These subjects can be unknowingly important when crossing paths with other people.
