Throughout this semester of Psychology 150 I have learned a great deal about several different concepts that I consciously, and sometimes unconsciously, find myself applying to my life. There are five different psychology topics I found that held the most relevance to my life. Some of these topics do not deal with myself exclusively, but they do affect the people I hold dear to me. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is intended to test your own thoughts. It is a type of therapy that can help people recognize and change damaging or troubling thought patterns that have a negative influence on their behavior. For example, addiction. An offenders thought could be “I need to get high.” A balanced thought would be, “I want to get high, but if I don’t, I will survive.” We can support that balanced thought with evidence. You do not need to get high. If you do not get high, blood will still pump through your veins and you will survive without it.
There is no known or possible cure for schizophrenia. This was the worse news that has been given yet. I have been switching between different medications and dosages to help my symptoms for years. These new medications are called second-generation or atypical antipsychotics (Schizophrenia. n.d.). These medications were offered to me in the form of a pill and an injection that can be given once or twice a month. Other than medications, I have also been offered therapy. There are different kinds for different aspects. Personally, I have been receiving psychosocial treatments and cognitive behavioral

Starting out as a Vocational focused field counseling eventually developed a preventative measure for those “wanting to work with a more “normal” population” (Noah, 2018). As needs arouse throughout history counselors have developed different ways of working with people. Today there are 16 different divisions in the American Counseling Association (ACA) (Norton, 204). Sound mental health helps us to live our lives wholesomely and with a sense of well being. Though this seems to be an adult state of mind, how we have been brought up and conditioned through our growing years plays an important role. Mental strength means we are confident of dealing with anything that's happens. Chronic stress and anxiety is banished since we are confident of our ability to handle life as it comes. Even though life is uncertain we are assured that we can work it out. However, how many of us actually feel this way? Rather we find ourselves wondering and questioning if we will be able to manage life situations like our work, finances, families etc.

With these changing facets also come challenges. There are challenges of consumer expectations and the treatment of behavioral health disorders from primary care providers. Insurance access also raises another challenge, that has slowly changed, as well as the retention of staffing. The financial stability of a facility is also an important factor for healthcare and for the behavioral healthcare system.
