wish to apply for the position of psychology assistant. From my previous work experience's and educational knowledge, I believe I would make a great contribution towards providing psychological intervention and support through the Psychology in Hostels project.
I am passionate about mental health and I wish to pursue a career in clinical psychology. I have currently been working as a research assistant for the medical director of the Huntercombe group, where I have had the opportunity to develop auditing and research skills by conducting studies and literature reviews. My role has involved working closely with all the Huntercombe group hospitals to collect data from patients and healthcare professionals to identify improvement areas, by

The placement has given me experience in patient contact and working within a team, attending and facilitating meetings. The project involved myself liaising with families of children who had undergone epilepsy surgery to collect the data on behavioural improvements. I shadowed appointments and learnt a lot about secondary psychiatric disorders and problems of epilepsy, including autism, ADHD and personality changes. In addition to the experience I gained during the project, the course has provided me with the knowledge and understanding of conditions such as personality disorders, psychosis and substance abuse, as well as the social, environmental and psychological causes and perpetuating factors to the disorders.
The opportunity to assist with the psychology service within the hostel and to undertake research responsibilities greatly appeals to me, as I have had experience in working with individuals with mental health conditions, but I am keen to learn and understand more about the effect homelessness can have. I believe with my experiences and interest , I could make a valuable contribution as a psychology assistant within the psychology service within in hostels at Lambeth.
Thank you for considering my application, I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours Sincerely,
Fionnuala
Clinical psychology is of great interest to me because its intent is to promote change,
The therapeutic part of this group will be the instructor leading constructive and positive sessions each week and then putting a strength based focus on the interventions used during sessions. Since I will not share common traits of homelessness with the members I will use more of a solution focused intervention to bring out the positive surviving skills each member already has. Throughout the process the idea is for the group members to build independent skills by working on homework outside of group as well as develop positive relationships and support systems outside of group through working together on common goals for the week or projects together. The members also will be able to talk about fears, anxiety, struggles,
The purpose of the programme was to upgrade existing hostel accommodations to improve the mental and physical health of homeless people, and to also help reduce the number of people presenting at Accident and Emergency departments (Gov.uk, 2015).
I now find myself wishing to further my passion for psychology while studying abroad in London. I will be taking a Psychology course that will transfer as six hours of upper level three hundred courses. The course I will be taking investigates how school and clinical service delivery operates in the U.K. with a focus on autism spectrum disorders and emotional and behavioral disorders. The University of Westminster is where I chose to study not only because of the diverse history that resonates among the city, but the prestige of the psychology department. At The University of Westminster, the undergrad and graduate psychology programs are all accredited by the British Psychological Society. This opportunity will provide a number of things that will assist in the development of a career in psychology. Studying during the summer will allow me to get ahead and take advanced classes at my home institution that pertain to behavioral psychology while focusing on children. It will be an opportunity to expand my knowledge on a subject I am passionate about learning from
Of the homeless, 33% are due to domestic violence and family issues, such assaults, family breakdowns, or just for time away from the family. Whereas, only 3% are homeless due to mental illness or substance abuse. There is a common myth that all of the homless people on our streets are ‘druggos’, but this is not true. Over half of all homeless people are men. Younger homeless men are less likely to seek assistance while they are homeless compared to evquivalent homeless females of whom tend to seek assistance on a higher rate. Homelessness can have massivley serious effecs on mental health, physical health and wellbeeing which can lead to mental and physical illness. There have been studies to prove that men whom have become homless due to abusing drugs or from mental illness are more likley to be homeless foe a longer period of time, compared to those who become homeless from other causes. There is also proof that suggests that males aged 25 and over will more than likely develop substance abuse issues due to being homeless, some have taken this as their way to cope and adapt with their new
My first field placement was at a homeless sheltering program for families with children, not a crisis center. All of the families that were involved in the program were experiencing financial hardships and needed the necessary resources to bring them back to self-sufficiency. Reading the article, Understanding the Psychodynamics of Chronic Homelessness from a Self-Psychological Perspective, provided a deeper understanding of the many different aspects which could cause an individual to become chronically homeless. It is quite disheartening to see homeless people sleeping on the sidewalks in the city, and I never gave it much thought as to why they are out there alone on the streets, especially when there are homeless shelters available to
Learning about ground breaking researchers in the field of psychology, and having an opportunity to conduct my independent research project has led me to believe that research is a tool for a change. Sometimes we learn that the change is making us go forward, but sometimes other wise. Either direction it is, it helps us to understand more about who we are, why we act certain way or another, and most importantly the actual application of research finding is what I find the most inspiring in doing a research. Therefore, being a research assistant in psychology would allow me to experience firsthand some of the most world changing research projects happening. It would allow me to gain essential skills for my senior thesis, graduate school, and

After studying psychology, throughout high school, at Kardinia International College, I attended Monash University. I completed a three-year accredited undergraduate psychology degree, that of which being a bachelor degree. I obtained excellent results. In my fourth year I received an honour degree in Psychology. I then continued to do a professional masters (MPsych), for two years, as I was accepted into the APAC-accredited program. It consisted of
The placement has provided me with an exclusive opportunity to utilise my learning from lectures and workshop and where appropriate get involved in a new experience to increase both my knowledge and skills for a long-term purpose. It has also made me aware of my strengths and weaknesses and what I could improve on for positive career advancement, e.g. public speaking skills, interpersonal skills and problem-solving skills. If I were to do this placement again, I would make sure I engage more with patients as this would help improve my interpersonal skills.
Participating in the overnight shelter at the UU Fellowship of San Luis Obispo, was an eye opening experience. When people think of homeless people, right away they think of the stereotypical description of a homeless person, such as dirty, on drugs, or mentally ill. I was one of those people who had a stereotypical picture in my mind, but participating in this shelter changed my perceptive on the description of homeless.

Being homeless makes one more vulnerable to abuse. Some may be violently targeted and beaten, while some homeless women have been raped. Due to exposure and unsanitary conditions, a homeless person is at greater risk of developing health problems. It has an adverse effect on families, it may separate the family as some shelters do not take children and some do not take boys. It may take a toll on the person’s mental state as they feel that they have lost their independence, are excluded from society, suffer a lack of privacy and feel hopeless in their situation. This may lead to depression, anxiety and self-esteem
During my undergraduate experience, I have seen individuals try to manage different physiological and psychological issues through my work experience, research, and leadership positions in certain Kennesaw State University organizations. These experiences and skills have influenced me to immerse myself more in clinical work and become a helping hand—a versatile clinical psychologist—who can ease suffering and guide individuals in difficult times in their lives.
As I progressed through my education, it became clear that I needed to gain experience in the mental health
