A good way to spread awareness of LGMD would be to send representatives to high schools to speak in health classrooms about what LGMDs are and the toll they take on the person with the disease physically, mentally, emotionally. A Public Service Announcement (PSA) video depicting a normal or athletic person, sadly deteriorate by showing the early symptoms of not being able to stand on their toes and not being able to go from sitting on the ground to standing without using their arms, to the late stage symptoms of losing control of their muscles. A PSA poster depicting a line of normal, healthy people with the information above saying that one of these people have LGMD and on the bottom the link to the free genetic sequencing test.
Consumer Alert In an era when free enterprise is the key to an efficient, productive, and successful country, business sometimes digresses from their true duties of producing goods and services at an honest and decent price. Consumer Alert, founded in 1977, was founded with a single purpose in mind: "to advance the consumer interest through advocacy of free-market solutions to consumer dissatisfaction and scrutiny of any action which discourages competition in the marketplace." Consumer Alert was founded in 1977 as a national, non-profit membership organization for people concerned about excessive growth of government regulation at the national and state levels.
I will compare the information available from two major online medical resources to see what type of audience they are targeting and how the information is communicated. The topic that I will be chosen is diabetes. We live in a fast paced society that is ruled by mass media. Every day we are bombarded by images of, perfect bodies, beautiful hair, flawless skin, and ageless faces that flash at us like a slide show. These ideas and images are embedded in our minds throughout our lives. Advertisements select audience openly and subliminally, and target them with their product. They allude to the fact that in order to be like the people in this advertisement you must use their product. This is not a new approach, nor is it unique to this generation, but never has it been as widely used as it is today. There is an old saying 'a picture is worth a thousand words,' and what better way to tell someone about a product
But of course, PSA’s don’t just shake people awake. Back in 2009, the Field family & their friends suffered a severe loss, the loss of Josh Field, a bright young man who stole everyone’s hearts. In a recent PSA interview video, we hear from Kathryn Field, Josh's mother. Towards the end of the PSA video, she admits: “If Josh had more knowledge about the outcome of answering that cell phone, maybe he wouldn’t have, maybe he would have just left it”. Clearly, PSA’s do more than just shake us awake; they also have the power to save lives by giving us the knowledge to stay safe. Think about it this way, if distracted driving PSA’s were as popular 6-7 years ago as they are today, bringing people the knowledge to make the right decision, then maybe Josh, and many others would have remembered the dangers and would have ignored that cell phone and focused on the road. Sadly Josh wasn’t fully informed of the dangers of distracted driving and so, he lost his life that day. Mrs.

During the course of the semester our group members had very busy schedules which made meeting challenging. We primarily connected through text messages, email, and short meetings after class. Albeit meeting was difficult, our communication throughout the semester worked out well. To accomplish our tasks each member of our group would take a section of the paper and contribute their ideas. Having more meetings in person would have given us a better advantage on the tasks, but due to member’s schedules, we had to make do with the time we had. Our group could have improved on our event to hand out pamphlets by getting more volunteers to assist in passing them out, as well as go for a longer period of time. Again with class schedules and work, the entire group was not able to participate. We could have also benefited by adding something to get people’s attention, possibly posters and signs. The day of our group’s event we all wore purple to represent Lupus while passing out information, but doing something unusual along with that, may have prompted more questions and interest in the message we were trying to pass. Although you can look back and see what we could have improved on, I think that we still were able to meet our persuasive goal by making our classmates aware of Lupus and we were able to reach a good number of students across campus as well. Though this was not on the scale we had hoped for it still was a step in the right direction in educating more on Lupus.
