Puffer fish; one of the few sea creatures that can puff up into a ball to protect itself from predators. The puffer fish has a sluggish swimming style that makes them a target for predators. To try to protect themselves, they use their elastic stomachs and their ability to hastily ingest large amounts of water and when necessary, air to turn them into a ball that is normally several times their size. Some species of the tetraodontidae have spines on their skin to assist them become less pleasing. Imagine a hungry, vicious, ruthless shark- stomach growling for food- strolling through the ocean. And here comes along a little fish. The shark sees this as a perfect opportunity for a quick bite. And in the shark goes, gobbling up the fish, which
The California State Fish: the magnificent golden trout. It flawlessly glides through the water, its golden underbelly and blue-green back cloaking its body, making it one with the water. Appointed in 1947, the golden trout, or Oncorhynchus Mykiss Agua Bonita, are native to California, having populated only a handful of icy streams in the Sierra. However, this concoction of color is threatened, and every year, their population lessens.
At New Melones Reservoir, despite the continuing snow melt, the water level dropped another foot last week. The water clarity is good and the temperature is slowly coming up, now averaging 76 to 81-degrees. Trout are showing signs of schooling over deep water and feeding on shad minnows. Trollers have been finding trout at 40 to 60 feet with Speedy Shiners, Needlefish, and ExCel lures. Night fishermen have been doing well by anchoring over fairly deep water and lowering their light to about 20 feet. This attracts plankton, which in turn, attracts shad, which will attract larger fish. Live minnows and nightcrawlers are choice baits. The kokanee numbers may be down, but the quality is good with some going 15 to 18 inches. Bladed lures may work well in deeper water as they create vibration which will attract fish. Scented corn on each hook is important. Big trout winner at Glory Hole Sports was, again, Bob James, of Murphys, with a 2-pound rainbow caught at 55 feet in the main lake. Big catfish winner was John Tennant, of Twain Harte, with an 11-pound, 15-ounce fish caught with sardine bait in the main lake. Bass fishing is good for those who specialize in that type of fishing. Hayden Lee, of Angels Camp, recently caught a 10 pound Largemouth Bass on a topwater lure and he had no net in the boat. He and a friend were able to boat the fish for photos before release.
The first time I felt the recoil of a shotgun coincide with the simultaneous drop and flop of a turkey I knew I was hooked. This was all the way back in the fall of 2005 when I shot my very first turkey alongside my father. That day started an addiction that has since intensified and spread to not only turkeys but almost all of Missouri's highly sought after species. Hunting, conservation, and the great outdoors have always been embedded in the hearts of my family. I am no different and plan to dedicate my life to Missouri’s wildlife the same way they have.
On this image, we see the external dorsal side of a preserved crayfish. As part of the largest animal phylum the Arthropoda, the body of the crayfish is segmented, with jointed appendages and exoskeleton. The paired antennae (1) are long appendages located the front of the mouth and modified for help the animal to sense touch and taste. The antennules (2) are shorter, also paired with the same function but they also help to maintain balance. The chelipeds (3) are located on the front of the thorax, and they are responsible for defence and grasping food. On the at ventral part of the thorax, we found four pairs of walking legs (4), with these legs the crayfish changes locations on the bottom of freshwater lakes, streams and also on land. They
When I was about six years old, my older brother and a few of his friends thought it would be funny if they removed the divider between to the two betta fish we had in the tank. Bettas are very aggressive and territorial fish and like to be left alone, so the second that they removed the border, they started attacking each other. Even though they are just fish and are very small, but it was blatantly obvious that they were doing harm to each other. He later put the borders back up but a few hours later, one of them had died. I blamed it on the fact that my brother had done that to the fish and told my dad. My brother, of course, got in trouble but my dad told me that the reason why one of them died because he was too weak and could no longer
Flight time was analyzed for six total serves, 3 jump serves and 3 standing overhand serves. Flight time was discovered using the running clock tool on Dartfish Analysis Software. Table 1 displays the summarized findings of flight time of 3 jumps serves and 3 standing overhand serves.
Researchers have witness something spectacular. In Enos Lake on Vancouver, similar species of a threespine stickleback fish lived there. One of the species usually lived in the middle of the lake eating zooplankton. The other specie lived in next to the shore eating larval stage insects. Within three years, the two species of the threespine stickleback fish disappeared. Researchers added crayfish into the lake. Researchers documented that within three years, 1994-1997, they saw less and less threespine fish, which they concluded it was the result of interbreeding. According to the University of Faculty of Science British Columbia stated, “The new stickleback fish does not perform all of the functions as its predecessors. The hybrid spends more
Steve waited for the bus at his bus stop with a few other fish. As the bus came near his mom shouted Have a good day at school. It was Steve's first day at this school and he hoped it went well. He got on the bus and looked for a seat. There was only one seat open and there was a puffer fish sitting in it. Steve asked if he could sit with him and he said no, find your own seat. Once again Steve asked if he could sit with him but he said no again. He asked again and this time the puffer fish got out of his seat and punched Steve in the face. Steve was shocked by this and he didn't know what to do. He just stood there in disbelief until they go to school. When they go to school he went to his class and the puffer fish was it too. He just hoped
As a kid, I loved arguing and debating; whenever I went to summer camp, I played a game called 'Fish Bowl'. We had to debate on any given topic. My points of argument were unrelenting, and I became filled with joy as the game went on. My love developed into a passion, and years later, I aimed to attend law school. My goal is to one-day work in family law.
a Regal Angelfish is known or identified by it's color crazed color's.Although it's orange it has blue, white, yellow, and black vertical (up and down) so that's how their also known.they are also known by the stripes on their side. It's also known by it's tail and side fin's because there yellow. So that's how the Regal Angelfish are known.
For the entirety of the project the water had an awful scent. The water was a brownish or yellow color till the last time my group check on the ecosystem. The latest checkup, the water was clear. It turns out that the reason why the color was that color because the plant progressively throughout the project died. The coloring is from organisms breaking down the bacteria. The water turned clear because the bacteria was finally all cleared up. I was interested in how the beta fish that was in the same section of the ecosystem as the snail, played dead most of the time. From doing some research on this observation, it shows that this type of behavior is common. This happens because the beta fish might have a bladder disorder or the person
I haven't always been keen on reading as I am today. I can’t really remember the reason for my distaste in literature, but I think it mostly came from me just thinking that reading was too difficult or I was just me being a stubborn six year old not wanting to do it, but none the less I was like this for a lot of my earlier years. I was able to read a small amount of text because my parents teaching me, using Doctor Seuss books like Cat and the Hat and One FIsh Two Fish Red Fish Blue FIsh as learning tools to help me become more fluent. I never really understood reading until my stepmom moved in with us. Since my sister and I were still very young
This history will lead kids and adults to navigate the waves of imagination, on an exciting adventure, which begins on the seabed and culminates with a fight for life between brave goldfish, captured by a fishing net, and his enemy – the terrible Mr. Cat.
It would seem to be a safe assumption that growing up many children took part in the cloud game, it may also be a safe assumption that adults still partake in that same game from time to time. The good old fashion cloud game, in which an individual spots a cloud and based on the characteristics that one observes and interprets those characteristics to be, the individual makes heads or tails of what it looks like. It can be kind of comical or frustrating, however, when the individual tries to get another person to see the exact same thing. The individual might start out by pointing in the air to indicate the direction one should be looking at, followed by a description of a particular attribute. Many times, the individual may not be able to pin point what the other is referring to and requests additional information or direction. Frustrated the individual may instruct the other to look again while providing addition attributes, which goes on until either, one gives up or the other has identified the cloud. In instances such as, this it is also plausible that not only is this a potential matter in which
At New Melones, as the lake level dropped another 3-feet last week, avid fishermen were not discouraged as they launched off the gravel area of Glory Hole Point where 4-wheel drive is recommended. Graveyard shift anglers are catching trout, crappie, and catfish, using submersible lights and live minnows. Daytime anglers are finding the trout and kokanee down to the 50 to 70-foot level. Bob James, of Murphys, a frequent angler at Melones, caught a limit of kokes last week by trolling an Apex lure at 65-feet in the main lake. Bass fishing remains good early mornings and late evenings. Topwater baits such as Whopper Poppers, buzzbaits, and spinnerbaits can produce some explosive topwater action. Dark colors seem to work better at night. Catfish are always around and last week's big fish winner at Glory Hole Sports was John Wilson, of
