Mac Hammond is able to use colorful words, such as butcher knife, throughout “Halloween” that brings the reader closer to the poem. Halloween is a nostalgic holiday for most people and there are specific words that will trigger those memories. Hammond exclaims, “The butcher knife goes in, first, at the top / And carves out the round stemmed lid” (1-2). There are numerous words used just in these two lines that can connect us with the poem. No one can talk about Halloween or pumpkins without the word carved involved. Whenever one starts to carve a pumpkin, they have to carve out that circle at the top so the center can be accessed. I am Brooklyn , Brooklyn Stone , and this is my story. Every year near Halloween me and my dad always went to get Pumpkins at the Windy Dindy Pumpkin Patch near the grocery store. At the time i was 7 years old , i was an only child with a mom and a dad. Me and my dad went to the pumpkin patch and my dad had a very bad heart attack , he landed on the pumpkins , broke his skull and died. I remember I was on the floor bawling. My dad had told me when i was about 5 or 6 that one year he was going to die in the pumpkin patch and i would have to pick the right pumpkin to save his life. I didn't believe it until that day. One pumpkin was rotten , another was little , and some others were huge.

By day one everyone should have brought in a pumpkin to start their experiment on. The first step is to take measurements on the pumpkin, they include weight (lbs.), waist (in), and count the number of grooves. All of the data found should be recorded into the table given. Following that we are to cut open the pumpkin, scoop out the inside, and begin to count all of the seeds found inside. After completing counting the amount of seeds you will record the number collected in the table as well.

Write the word "Boo" across the front of a pumpkin with a black Sharpie marker. Glue black buttons around the outline of each letter. Paint the pumpkin stem black and tie a orange polka dot bow around the stem. Make one or several spooky pumpkins that you can display in the entryway of your home.
