Book Report On “The Purpose Driven Life”
In life, we often ask ourselves trivial questions such as “What should I wear to that party?” but the most important question we must ask ourselves is ‘What is God’s purpose for my life?”. The “Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren aids us in finding the answer. This book is based on five principles that Warren expounds on which are used as stepping stones in finding our purpose.
The first section of the book focuses on the question “What am I here for?”. People frequently fail to realize that God is not living for us but rather we are living for God. This indicates that we ought not to figure out our purpose for ourselves but ask God to show us his purpose for our lives. The bible states

Like any relationship we must not only be honest with God but with ourselves as well. A relationship with God cannot stand unless we have genuine desire for it. We should also constantly speak to God and meditate on his word. We are able to have strong bond with God only because of Jesus’ sacrifice. It is important to remember that we are only as close to God as we choose to
The second principle mentioned is “You were formed for God’s family”. Throughout our existence as Christians we are born twice. We are born into a human family then reborn into a spiritual one. The bond with our spiritual family lasts forever while the bonds with our human family may often break. Thus, baptism is crucial step that we must take. It serves as an act of identifying ourselves with God’s family. Being a member of God’s family means that we must follow His word. We should strive to remember that one important element of this His word is Love. The bible says "Let love be your greatest aim”. Thus one of our greatest aspirations in life should be to love someone unconditionally. A life without it is worthless and serves no purpose. After learning to love God, learning to love others is equally important. The members of the church form the body of Christ. Whenever a single member tries to do something on their own it’s like an organ trying to work without a body. Becoming a member of the church is crucial because the bible refers to a Christian
The Bible tells us that man was newborns, children, and adults are all here by the grace of God. Yes, as humans we add meaning and purpose to our life. However, our main purpose from day one is to worship him. (126)
"Everything must have a purpose?" asked God. "Certainly," said man. "Then I leave you to think of one for all this," said God, and he went away" (265).
Living religious traditions are integrated meaning systems which provide adherents with comprehensive and distinctive answers to the enduring questions of human existence. Religious traditions are ultimately shaped and reformed by the actions of the individuals who practices the faith. In a contemporary Christian environment, prominent practices to have a significant contribution to Christianity as a living religious tradition are Baptism and the works of Pope John XXIII. The significant practice of Baptism, as a central element of Christianity, is an initiation of adherents to a “discipleship” with Christ as well as a reinforcement of the community’s relationship with God. Furthermore, the development and expression of the Christian tradition
What is our purpose in life? That is a question many people ask themselves every day. As we become older people believe that wisdom is automatically granted through knowledge and experience. I was one of those people until taking this course. When first I opened and read the first chapter of the text I believed I was an experienced and a mature individual in knowing myself intellectually, mentally, and sexually. However, this has been an awakening although I do possess much about basic knowledge for my age in sexual issues there was still much I did not know (Rathus, Nevid & Fichner-Rathus, 2005).
During the course of the LDB481-17: Faith and Life Issues, Ms. Sams did not understand of the concept of vocation, before enrolling in the course. Nor, she has never heard the concept of vocation during at that time her twenty-two years on Earth. As she considers herself, a free spirit and a humanist regarding religion, Ms. Sams continues to note that she does not follow a particular religion. However, she keeps an open mind to how an individual’s religion has transformed his or her life. As a free spirit, by primarily having an open mind to the religious faith of Christianity, Ms. Sams assures that the spirit of God lives within each individual; regardless if he or she believes or does not believe in the spirit of God.
The purpose of man is to praise and worship God, proclaim his glory, and to accomplish his will."… And whom I have created for My glory, …” (Isaiah 43:7 New International Version). God created all things in harmony. He established a perfect creation that he loves and over which he rules. The highest honor is given to mankind as the only part of creation made in God’s image. Humanity was created to love as God loves, to worship and praise his glory and commune with him as he does with us.
Isaiah 43:21 reveals God’s purpose in creating us; to give Him praise through worship. As a leader/minister, preaching the gospel, teaching, providing an environment conducive to growth and flourishing, reproducing the character of Christ, and leading others to worship and delight of God is my real responsibility. Matthew 28:19-20 says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the ages.”
In a contemporary Christian environment one of the most prominent practices to have a significant contribution to Christianity as a living religious tradition is Baptism. Baptism is of utmost importance for most Christian denominations. It has profound significance for the individual who is baptised and is also important for the Christian community as a whole. As a sacrament of initiation, Baptism calls its adherents to become missionary Disciples of Christ. It is through baptism that one’s faith journey begins and Christians are called to follow and live their lives in the light of Christ.
Therefore, it is better to fulfill one 's own purpose than that of the creator. But also in the book it discusses how people do not agree with creating one’s own purpose. They think that if they create their own purpose then that means that their life meaning is not as meaningful. I do agree with this to some extent but I also think that we know ourselves the best and if we create our own life meaning it can be the most fulfilling. A quote from this chapter is, “What matters is not necessarily what the inventor had in mind, but the uses or purposes the innovation actually has” (p.12). So this quote is saying that for example the predetermined meaning of humans is not really important at all. It is what purposes a human can bring about in this world.

What is the meaning of life? Well known Greek philosphers such as Socrates and Plato believed that our purpose in this life was to gain knowledge in preparation for the next life. Other Philosophers such as Epicurus believed that pleasure is the main goal in life. After giving these ideas lots of thought, I have come to my own conclusion that the true meaning of life is far more complex than either of these; far too complex for any human to fully comprehend. In fact these two different philosophies are only part of the grand picture. If it were that easy for men to figure out our lives wouldn't be so messed up now. The meaning of life revolves around many different things. I
Why are we here? What is our purpose? If man is looking for a purpose, then is he saying
I believe without an idea of what the church wants to accomplish they must have a statement of purpose. Ephesians tells us “In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will” (Ephesians 1:11, NIV). This tells me that the church needs to prayerfully commune with God to discover what purpose He has for us and then make that purpose into a statement of
In The Purpose Driven Life, Rick Warren writes that “our first purpose in life is to:
The role and purpose of the Church is to create a community of people who believe in the same faith of God. The Church is a foundation of the faith in God. The Church allowed people to unite on common grounds and follow the words of God. The place of worship made people feel accountable because they were in it together. The Church raised the importance of prayer and spirituality because that is how one communicates to God. The Church emphasizes fellowship, dedication to the faith, selflessness. The Church gives power to the Christian people because they are a group and not individuals anymore.
