Animal Science
My reason for pursuing the Animal Science Major is because I know that it is the first step in becoming a Veterinary Science Major. I have the desire and passion in becoming a Veterinary Surgeon and owning my own practice. By achieving those goals, I will have the utmost control and ability to make the decisions that can save the lives of my client's pets and livestock. I have always had an affinity for the calming and personal peace that pet ownership could bring. I believe that by becoming a veterinary surgeon I would possess the ability to aid the owners in making the choices that are beneficial both to the owner and to the wellbeing of the animal. There is what I like to think is very humane responsibility given to us
For my program of studies paper I chose small animal science. What does an small animal scientist do? An animal scientist plays an important role in maintaining the nation's food supply. With a focus on food production, they explore animal genetics nutrition, reproduction, diseases, growth, and development. They work to develop efficient ways to produce and process, meat, poultry, eggs, and milk. Some related are Agricultural engineering. Agricultural engineering is the area of engineering concerned with the design, construction and improvement of farming equipment and machinery. Agricultural engineers integrate technology with farming. For example, they design new and improved farming equipment that may well more efficiently,or perform new tasks.Humans rely on animals for food on our tables. Animal scientist work with farmers to improve animal breeding, diseases and nutrition. When animals grow well and stay healthy, farmers can produce more healthy food. An animal scientist is a person who specializes in the study of animals is called a zoologist. A zoologist is a person who study certain kinds of animals.
I am passionate about ensuring animal wellbeing, have a strong aptitude for scientific study (having chosen to study all three sciences; biology, physics and chemistry in high school) and am up to the challenge of dealing with all kinds of creatures, especially farm livestock and horses, companion animals and wildlife in rural and regional communities. The variety of animals I encountered at two local vets and at RDA Australia: a baby brushtail possum, wallaby, red-tailed black cockatoo, lorikeet, rabbit, dogs, cats and horses helped me determine where my interests lie. I am interested in everything from preventative care to psychological analysis and complex surgical procedures with emphasis placed on commitment to farm animal production to address the current shortage of rural veterinarians.
I have also had a small amount of Equine husbandry and surgery assistant as well at Dr. Wendell Baker’s veterinary clinic, most of my experience surgery wise were several castrations, teeth floating, and restraining for x-rays. I have also had a great array of experiences while currently shadowing at the Cy-Fair Animal Hospital with Dr. Diarra Blue and Dr. Michael Lavigne in regards to small animal medicine. I have been exposed to so many situations and learned a very good amount of knowledge about veterinary medicine in general. Honestly I believe that everyone should contribute to society by doing what they love to do. I can honestly say that having a career as a veterinarian will allow me to serve society in the most effective way possible I want to help people by making sure their animals are one-hundred percent healthy, or help society with food safety by making sure livestock are safe and healthy for human consumption of those animals and their respective byproducts, or maybe be a part of maintaining and monitoring the health of certain wildlife for
One of my main educational and also career goals in the world of veterinary medicine and animal health care would have to be completing all necessary courses to obtain my Veterinary Assisting certificate and going to work at a vet clinic. Eventually, I may chose to go back to school to complete the rest of the courses needed to become a Veterinary Technician. I have always grown up around animals so I assume that is where my love and passion for helping animals came from. As a young child and still to this day, I have always found comfort, peace, and an increased amount of patience in being around animals. I have also always been intrigued by the idea of therapy/service animals. I see those animals being able to truly make an impact on their
I have always had an interest in animals, having grown up alongside multiple pets; they have always been a part of my life. However, it wasn't until our beloved family dog fell ill with cancer that I began to realise the huge impact that a vet can have on the lives of both animals and humans and, I too, wanted to be able to help the lives of not only animals, but also the people who love them. My desire to study veterinary science was reinforced during my first work experience at a small animal practice, Vets4Pets. I witnessed several operations, from spays and castrations, to multiple dental procedures and a tumour removal from a Labrador.
Since as far back as I can remember, I have loved animals; especially cats and dogs. At first, I wanted to work as a cashier at Petsmart. As I aged, I realized it’s very difficult to make a good living as a cashier anywhere. I set my sights a little bit higher: Becoming a veterinarian. Ever since I made this decision in elementary school, I have worked exceptionally hard to achieve this goal. I recently graduated high school as a valedictorian in a class of nearly 400. Through my senior year of high school, I shadowed at my local veterinary clinic to better understand what I will be doing for the rest of my life. The experience just made me even surer that helping animals is definitely what I want to do for my career.
I hope to major in zoology, because of a lifelong interest in animals: running outside with a spoon to dig for worms when it rained; raising and mating butterflies (including research about plants they like, hoping they would stay on in my yard); and as a surfer, even looking up sharks and stingrays (nightmares for most). Studying zoology can help extend that love for animals, possibly leading me to field work or veterinarian school, and ultimately to find a satisfying career that I will enjoy.
I have challenged myself in many ways throughout my educational life. One area of interest that I am proud I have pursued is my contribution to the community, by volunteering at Cats Only Veterinary Clinic. This position taught me a lot about myself and helped me learn about some areas I would like to explore in the future. I have been spending extra time learning information about the biology and chemistry of a cat to help me with my future educational goals. The Veterinarians at the Cats Only Clinic have been extremely kind to me by letting me get involved in learning more about the science behind cats. I have got the satisfaction of being able to observe surgical and no surgical operations like Radiology (x-rays), Dentistry, Spaying, Neutering,
Ever since I was young, I have always loved animals. I remember saying I wanted to be a veterinarian for the “when I grow up” project in kindergarten. As I grew up, my answer to the question “What do you want to be when you grow up?” never changed: the answer was always a veterinarian. I know that a lot of little girls say that they want to be vets to help animals, but when they find out that they have to deal with gore or put an animal to sleep they change their minds. However, when I realized what being a vet truly meant, it just made me more determined to reach that goal. I want to help animals and see the joy of the animal’s owner when they get their beloved pet back. As I grew older, I began to watch many vet shows on television. My favorites are “The Incredible Dr. Pol” and “The Vet Life.” While watching these shows, my mom would always ask me, “Are you sure you want to do that?” My answer was always “Yes!” These television shows only reveal a tiny part of what it means to be a vet and have only reinforced my decision to become a vet. I started volunteering at my local animal shelter when I turned fourteen. I sought out jobs like cleaning kennels or washing dogs because I felt that this would contribute the most to the animal’s well-being. I volunteered at the shelter as often as I could.
I want to be a veterinarian because I want to help sick animals become better. A Veterinarian is a type of doctor that treats sick and diseased animals instead of people.
My interests and background are two fundamental aspects that make me. They are the two main reasons I want to further my education and achieve the goal I have of becoming a veterinarian. First would be my interest in animals. I have been told that since I was around four years old that I would always say I wanted to work with animals and be a vet. I am passionate about helping animals as well as helping their own be able to better take care of their animals. We use animals for many things from food to companions to service animals so we need to make sure that they are at the top of their health. I do not like seeing animals suffer for diseases that can be treated either. I would like to be able to help people with treating the animals in their care and teaching them new things in the process as well.
I aspire to become a veterinarian one day which is why I am choosing to study Biology. I have always been fascinated with the bond we share with animals. Even though you can't talk to them they seem to understand a lot more than we give them credit for. Animals get just as sick as humans, but unlike humans, they don’t have radiologists, pharmacists, or dentists, only veterinarians. A veterinarian has to be everything an animal needs. I can’t think of anything more rewarding than giving each animal as much time with their owners as I can.
My goal is to work with large to small animals. The degree that I am currently working on is for Animal Science, which focuses on veterinary science with both large and small animals as well as classes that cover dairy nutrition and handling. Long term these classes will give me the experience and knowledge necessary to move into the field of work I wish to excel in. Northcentral Technical College offers hands on classes and the ability to build a portfolio of experience that I can use in the real working industry. As a whole I am unsure where this career path will lead me but many doors are opened by this degree. Including but not limited to, veterinary assistant, heard management, animal nutrition, and many more job opportunities. As a whole
For as long as I can remember I've always had an interest in helping those that are unable to help themselves, especially animals. By completing a degree in Animal Biology I hope to further my knowledge on the animals that I'm so passionate about, so that I can help them more efficiently and instead of just taking them to a person for the care , I can be the person that heals them and cares for them. A couple of the core skills I hope to acquire by completing this program are problem solving skills, diagnostic, and critical thinking skills, all of which are extremely important in the field. While I'm completing my classes I plan to participate in an internship at a veterinarian clinic for experience and to see what being out in the field feels
Becoming a veterinarian takes a lot of hard work and many years of schooling, but it is an immensely satisfying job for those that are comfortable with and passionate about working with animals as well as people. Veterinarians offer medical care to by diagnosing and treating sick animals, which are often household pets, farm animals, and zoo animals. While looking into becoming a veterinarian, many factors of the job need to be taken into consideration: education and experience requirements, working facilities, job outlook, advancement opportunities, salary and wages, tasks performed, and advantages and disadvantages.
