Without thinking, nursing is what I have always known I would pursue as a career. This is not me employing platitudes to convey my connate aspiration to be a healthcare professional — it is simply the truth. My determination to become a nurse is unrelenting: even after my tumultuous adolescent years, and a brief flirtation with pursuing a career in journalism, I am undeterred. While I am rigorous in my pursuit, life is seldom accommodating. Whether it is liberating myself from toxic relationships, changing residence from Boston to Philadelphia, or doing minimum-wage jobs to pay rent and remain solvent, life has afforded me many opportunities to build character and resilience. Here, at the Community College of Philadelphia, I have wed my
From a very early age I have had a passion and drive to help people. I was first inspired to go in to a nursing career by my grandmother who would tell me stories about her experiences as a midwife. One that stood out to me was when she travelled through a snowstorm to deliver a baby, and it is this level of commitment, care and compassion that I aspire to have. I have also found inspiration from my mum who is an ICU nurse and has always shared her experience and advice with me. This has been something that has resonated with me throughout my life and has always served as an inspiration.
This course is something that will be very important for my career as a Registered Nurse. I plan to try my hardest and do my very best in this course. By the end of the course I expect to be able to properly communicate using medical terminology. The only experience I have with medical terminology is an anatomy class I took in high school. I retained the information well and I still remember most of the words I learned in that class, because I knew they would be important to know later on.
I have learned how important it is advocating for patients, my parents and immediate family. Nurses see patients at their most assailable times in their lives. As a proponent, nurses can improve the outcomes of patient’s illness. I had my first experience of witnessing my twin brother Kareem asthma attack at seven years old and it was the scariest moment of my life. In that moment I thought that he was going to die, I had never felt so incapacitated. That first experience with the physical process of asthma set the stage for my career ambitions of becoming a registered nurse .
My first Nursing Career goal is to complete my education here at St. Francis College to obtain my Bachelors of Science in Nursing and to pass my NCLEX exam. After passing the NCLEX I would like to work as a Registered Nurse in a hospital in or around New York City. While working as a Registered Nurse I would like to gain experience in the field to finally decide what aspect of Nursing I would like to specialize in. My overall goal right now, is to work as an RN and to go back to school to become a Nurse Anesthetist. Within my career my goals are to do my job to the best of my ability. I want to help as many patients as I possibly can and make their experience in the hospital the best it can be.
I am an Registered Nurse with over twenty years of experience in the medical field. I am now 42 years old. I have enjoyed every moment of my nursing career. I have traveled and learned a great deal from my experiences as a nurse. The past seven years I have been a nurse manager in a smaller institution, which has allowed me the opportunity of serving several additional job duties to increase my overall business skills. I would benefit greatly from a business degree and learning the financial aspect of the business. Most recently , I have taken the additional role of purchasing for my surgery center. I previously also did payroll. With a business degree, I could continue to advance my career in administration as well as open the possibility of opening my own
I believe that I am prepared to face the challenges and demands of the nursing program at Sumner College. Nursing programs are intensive and demanding which require a lot of study time and good study skills, both of which I have. Nursing is my passion, so classes and clinicals will be a pleasure for me. I’m determined to do the very best that I can to meet and exceed the goals that I and Sumner College has set forth to be an RN student.
When you hear of the word ‘’career’’ it makes you think of some of your long term goals in life. A career is a pursuit, occupation, profession you choose to take in life. My career of choice would be a profession that deals with being a caregiver, it doesn’t matter the age group. I want to be a caregiver because not only are you helping someone in need out, your also putting a smile on their face. I just love being able to help others and to make a change. When I was a little girl my grandfather was diagnosed with lung cancer ,so from that day forward I was always focused on being in the medical field ,I just knew that I could be the doctor that will and would find the cure to the disease’s that are killing our people off. I came to Aiken technical college to achieve one of my goals of getting a degree in nursing. Since I was a little girl I have always dreamt of being a doctor, so I knew by me taking up nursing I would get one foot in the door of following my dreams.
The career I am going to enter is nursing. I would like to work with children in pediatrics. The school I have been accepted into is Oklahoma Christian University. This school has a great bachelors of science and nursing (BSN) program that I plan to complete. This school is in Edmonds Oklahoma and I have family in Edmonds and the town over. This is a great opportunity for me to see a lot of my family that I've never met. Oklahoma is my next 4 years and I'm excited to take this journey.
Hi Natasha, I enjoyed reading your post. It sounds like you are a dedicated person, not only to your family, but to yourself and your job as well. I admire that you have not given up and that you are going back to school once again to further your nursing career. I am sure your family and your daughters will be very proud of you. It is never too late to return to school, or achieve any other goals in have in life. I believe you are teaching your children a valuable lesson in life. Good luck in the next five weeks and with the rest of your
I consider a career as a way of supporting your family and/or lifestyle. A person can have several careers in their lifetime that may require special training, education, or advanced skills. These careers are individually pursued to meet our needs. Prior to being called into the nursing field, I worked several positions on many different levels. I could easily switch jobs when I no longer felt connected to the position or the position was no longer enjoyable. Careers can have a tendency to change as we experience different phases in our own life.
At its beginning, nurses were not respected until the mother of nursing, Florence Nightingale helped revolutionize the world of nursing and create a standard for the highly regarded profession for what it is known as today. The nursing profession has shown its incredible ability to adapt to changes, especially in healthcare needs. When I think about myself as a nurse, I see traits in myself that exemplify the sheer standard expected of a nurse. A nurse must be resilient, flexible, graceful in stressful situations, determined to provide the best care for the well-being of any patient regardless of personal biases, and ultimately, compassion. One of the reasons I chose to pursue a lifetime career in nursing is that there are many places this career can take me. I know I will learn more in the field than I ever could sitting behind a desk. Nurses care to change the lives of their patients, community, and even the world. I believe nursing encompasses the best qualities of a person and gives any ordinary person the chance of being extraordinary.
Doing this research has helped me understand my decision of considering going into nursing which has also benefited me too by learning new things about my career that I had no idea of. A difficulty that I had to face was finding a person to interview who belongs to the same career I am going into and asking them questions about their career and job. An obstacle that I faced was finding the right classes for my major for me to meet the requirements for me to be able to transfer from a community college to a UC campus for my major I am going into. Finding articles for both colleges was also hard for me because both Merced College and UCLA didn’t really have a lot of articles that talked about the campus life or it’s lifestyle , it was very
As from an early age, I have had the desire to help others. I knew that I wanted to have a medical career where I can make a difference in people’s life by caring for them and improving their health. I soon came to realize the interest I had in nursing, and now I am inspired by educational as well as life experiences to accomplish that desire. I am eager to pursue a career within the nursing role, I have a positive attitude, a strong will to help others, and have self-awareness when under pressure. I am aware this career requires a lot of dedication and could be demanding, but I will maintain my motivation and determination to reach my true potential and work to the best of my ability to accomplish all the goals I have set.
Nursing is a very intriguing profession with an open door to many new opportunities. While in the field many exciting experiences may come at you. The medical field has always interested me, but I was never quite sure on what career would suit me best and was the right one to pursue. There are many nurses in my family: my mom, sister in law, my cousin’s wife Taylor and my aunt Julene. After hearing all of their exciting stories I decided that nursing is the perfect career. It provides a great place to start at and expand to bigger and better things. In nursing you never know what is going to happen. There is constant excitement and challenge in a nurse’s life. As weird as it may sound, I enjoy being in charge when there is change going
It is true that the profession nursing offers many alternatives to practice the profession and have a wide range of opportunities in which to apply the acquired knowledge. Any new employment causes stress so it is important to have a mentor to serve as a guide and does not increase the level of anxiety. So we must keep in mind our experience as a new employee for when the time comes be a good mentor and be able to lead others without causing tension. Me right now I’m in the promise stage eager to start my career, since making decisions ir critical in this phase to obtain in the future my milestones like building knowledge, skills, abilities and have exposure to different types of experience I am keeping my options open at the moment and wait
