Data-driven instruction in schools is a developing practice across school districts with minimal rigorous research conducted necessary to build generalization of studies to practice. Datnow, Park, and Wohlstetter (2007) carry out a study with the intent purpose of creating a reference document for districts and schools wanting to create a data-driven culture. The study examines two mid-size urban school districts as well as two nonprofit charter management organizations, that have sustained performance driven school systems and has improved student achievement over time. The qualitative case study summarized the key strategies of performance-driven school systems, including: “Building a Foundation for Data-Driven Decisions Making, Establishing
The population of interest for the proposed study includes college freshmen in Texas. This study considers college freshmen in Texas to be first-year and full-time students enrolled in any college or university in the state, aged 18 to 24 years old. As 44 percent of college students drink excessively, there is a clear need for effective alcohol education (Champion, Lewis, & Meyers, 2015). This study hypothesizes students also need alcohol education programs that cater to their university or college environment, whether it is urban or rural. Rural college students are considered those who attend college in a city with less than 50,000 residents, while urban college students attend college in a city with more than 50,000 residents
Participation in fitness and social activities are key determinants of successful aging and enables older adults to stay in their homes and be integrated into the community. Although meeting participation needs involves older adults, their caregivers and healthcare providers, little is known about their respective viewpoints. This study thus explored the perceived, met and unmet participation needs of older adults having disabilities as seen by the older adults themselves, their caregivers and healthcare providers. A qualitative multiple case study consisted of conducting 33 semi-structured interviews in eleven triads, each composed of an older adult, his/her caregiver and a healthcare provider recruited in community health settings
The need to improve student learning in low-performing high schools is often complicated by inadequate knowledge
The purpose of this study is to explain and explore the experience and perception of a group of at- risk East Baton Rouge Parish School District students at Scotlandville Magnet High School who are utilizing the online credit recovery program Edgenuity in lieu of an elective course during the regular school day implemented as an intervention method in an effort to be placed with their graduation cohort. In 2015, Tetnowski, noted that “Exploratory case studies seek to establish a deeper understanding of a phenomenon and are particularly useful when there is minimal preliminary research to inform and guide the research” (p. 40). Taylor and Thomas, (2015) noted the “Exploratory approach enables the researcher to understand more about a particular problem or situation” (p.
The qualitative study by Coverdale and Long (2015) on the exploration of emotional well-being in young people and perspectives of parents is a small-scale study that utilizes qualitative methods to search for the meaning of emotional well-being as experienced by the young person and to address the divide from crisis intervention to the promotion of well-being. The proposed research question is broad and subjectively defined. The weaknesses of the study are the limited sample size and role conflict between the researcher and some of the participants. Strengths of the study illustrate the importance of further research and the need for available support for parents and young people to promote emotional wellbeing.
Music is a stimulant that can induce changes in arousal levels, which can be measured through indicators such as tense arousal (i.e. tension). The genre and how frequently individuals are exposed to a music stimulus can determine how significant the change in arousal will be. Generally, energetic music increases phasic arousal, which is the respondent state of arousal due to a stimulus (Olst, Orlebeke & Fokkema, 1967), because of the exciting mood they create, their fast tempo, tone, and beat accenting. Contrastively, relaxing music decreases phasic arousal because of their slow-pace and quieter sound (Huron, 2002). However, it is hypothesised that, when listening to their preferred type of music, participants will experience a smaller change

I will be investigating the following research question: how is coming out as a non-heterosexual person framed and preformed in YouTube videos? Mills (1959) explains that, as researchers we must learn to use our life experiences in our intellectual work (196). I have never come out in a YouTube video. However, as a person that does not identify as heterosexual I have experienced coming out in a variety of contexts. As such, I hope to lean on this personal experience to shape my craftsmanship (Mills, 1959: 196; van den Hoonaard, 2014: 156; Inglis, 2010: 509).
Characteristics: Any sensitivity to light? Any difficulty with your vision? Is there any drainage and if so what is the consistency? (Try to determine if discharge is purulent or watery) Any other symptoms (rhinitis, fever)? Do you feel like there is something in your eye?
The purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore the nature of communication processes of members in small consulting organizations with regard to the use of accurate information in a virtual community of practice. The problem was the superficial and often inaccurate nature of virtualinformation, which is characterized by ambiguity, lack of depth, unverified sources, and anonymity (Memmi, 2006). The nature of online communication in business setting is a problem because information that is not correct could have negative ramifications in the credibility of the business.
Each year thousands of people are tried through the criminal justice system and each case is unique in its own way. This essay will evaluate three real life cases where, a case depict the unique processes related to different courts, a defendant accepted a plea bargain as an alternative to trial, and a case where a defendant was wrongly accused and later exonerated.
Case studies are effective qualitative methods that focus on a particular group’s experiences to understand a specific phenomenon. ( Merriam, 2009) In addressing the problem of the academic disparities between white and African-American students, I selected and implemented the case study method. This study consisted of three unique focus groups. The participants of these groups were members of the local African-American community who was also a parent, educator and/or clergy. Participants were divided into three socio-economic groups: group # 20 ( 20K and below), group #40 ( 40k to 70k) and group # 70 ( 70k and above) Ten participants were eligible and invited for the study however only 6 participants to attend each group with the exception
In reading the first article Coach Knight: The Will to Win, I found the article found Coach Knight to be very offensive and mean to his players. Coach Knight did not display good leadership skills. According to the article, Coach Knight’s drive and passion for excellence was not always received as well as his record of wins and losses Snook, Per low, Delacey, 2005).
