Change is good, this is something that has often been said throughout history, the mind is an open book ready to consume additional information. During the last eight weeks of class there has been many things that Foundation of Nutrition, SPHE 395, has highlighted for the students, in order to assist them in fine tuning their craft in the sports and health industry. There where numerous area that where focused on over the last eight weeks. During part two of this final assignment there we were asked to state five things that we learned during the eight weeks of learning. One of things that I must say is the fact that I know little or nothing about Nutrion before this class, but during the course there were several that would help me during my career. The five area that where important to my learning where the highlighting of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, maternal nutrition for infants, and the benefits of alcohol. After the review of this information there will be detailed concluding thoughts what I think of the class after the concluding week.
I am interested in the Masters of Science in Nutrition and Integrative Health program offered at Maryland University Integrative Health. The unique holistic approach of the nutrition program is an aspect that I am very passionate about. I believe nutrition is a vital part of one’s well-being, and it plays an integral part in one’s overall longevity. Before FNU 206 Introduction to Nutrition and Dietetics, I only had an idea of what I wanted to do as a Registered Dietitian, but not exactly how to reach that goal. After taking this class, Dr. Adkins has given me direction as to how to find my first destination. The Registered Dietitian career is not like being a doctor; there is no specific practice to study in school and stay as that type of specially trained practice. There are certain practices and patients to attend to as a Registered Dietitian, however my first job can be in a clinical setting with cancer patients as supposed to a company focused on wellness of the body. After completing the program at UIW, I would have earned a Masters of Science Degree in Nutrition. There isn’t a national or state exam to complete or pass to earn the Masters Degree. However, Didactic Program in Dietetics requirements are encouraged to be met so that students can received a DPD Verification Statement to apply to a dietetic internship. The requirements can be met by taking on didactic course in nutrition or electives that meet the requirement.
