R & B Music Analysis

There are only a few genres I choose not to listen to at all; otherwise, I can enjoy almost any form of music. I like country music because that is what my Dad always listened to. Although what was his country music was and what mine is today, is much different, my choice roots from my childhood exposure (Detrick, “Music History”). In black music we can see different genres like blues which originated in the early 20th century; blues can be considered a type of folksong. Many names that are associated with blues music are Bessie Smith,Ma Rainey and Ray Charles. A lot of black music like blues evolved from different spirituals and work songs sung on fields. Blues music although originated in the southern states soon traveled to the east coast where it can be shown during a time called the Harlem renaissance. Many of the music traveled up north due to the great depression. In blues music the artist will make you connect with their feelings as their emotions are expressed throughout the music. During a time of poverty, rascism, and many other problems in the black communities their music was an outlet and told stories of the people living through these times.

In this peer-reviewed academic article the central argument was that in many schools only Caucasian music and literature is being learned about instead of Native American music. This is an issue because children in school now are not able to learn about a different culture due to the limitation of only learning about Caucasian music and literature. Also, another issue is that since the world is made up of many different cultures, the students should be learning about more than one to get a better understanding on that culture. The result of this is children will understand the history of Native Americans and the different types of music from other cultures. Another result is that children will not understand the meanings behind these types of music and literatures.

People around the world have different ways of expressing their emotions. Many people use music as a way to release the emotions they feel inside. When listeners analyze a song sometimes they can understand what an artist might feel or better understand their perspective. Many African American artists sing about how African American communities are dragged into a never ending cycle of poverty and criminal activity. Some artists many have a different perceptive on the future of these communities where they grew up in. Gang Starr’s “Code of the Streets” and 2Pac “Changes” exposes the experience of living, being raised in a poor community expressing different emotions in the song.

Gospel music is a form of religious music that is practiced among African Americans and whites. Gospel music is considered to be praising the religion of Christianity. African Americans and whites sing gospel music to worship their religion Christianity. Although African Americans gospel has been greatly influenced in the aspects of popular contemporary music. American Gospel music is founded in the African American church. It has a deep culture in America. It is used as an outlet for people who have been oppressed, beaten down, and persecuted. Gospel music acts as a source of inspiration for those who had all but given up. It speaks of the various trials and struggles they’ve undergone, and how they were able to overcome. Is also used as a form of praise and worship, giving thanks to the Lord. The term “gospel” means “the good news.” Gospel music is used to tell the good news of the salvation people have received from the Lord, rescuing them from all of the trials and struggles of the world. Gospel music has been influenced by genres such as jazz and blues. It is a combination of many different forms of music, producing a new and unique type of sound.

1) My favorite type of music is hip hop. I grew up listening to great hip hop artists such as Eminem, Drake, and Lil Wayne. I like this kind of music so much because I can express myself through listening to hip hop. All my family and friends listen to hip hop also.

There are a lot of music genres that a person can choose to listen to rap and R&B, rock, country, etc. The music genre that I prefer I listen to anytime or anywhere is that I am always in the mood want to listen to is country music.

If I could pick one type of music to be my favorite it would be country music. I like country because the music tells a better story in my opinion, it tells a story over a long period of time not just a one to two day period. Country music has the best rhythm to it you can hear the guitar or drums or other instruments they're playing in the background. Also it usually tells of a story I might be in.

Music is filled with emotion throughout the genres. Country, rap, pop, jazz, classical, indie, alternative, and rock are all individual types of music. Different artists display diverse emotions through their music. Country and rap are two totally opposite types of music. Country is mellow and romantic, while rap is fast paced and sometimes very inappropriate. As a child, many want to listen to upbeat, cheerful music. As a teen or young adult, we listen to multiple genres, exploring our interests. The difference between my music that I listened to in in my younger years compared to now is not distinctive.

Everyone develops their own music preferences based on their life experiences and personality. How an individual relates to a genre of music depends on how it makes him or her feel. Childhood

The music type that I listen to is a little bit combination of everything, and also it depend on my mood for example, if I was sad I would listen to Rock and heavy metal type of songs and etc. Sometime I become a picky person and start looking for an old song that I like the tune it has.

Contemporary Rhythm and Blues, best known as modern day R&B is a musical genre that dives down into musical categories of African American origins. The components of R&B are a mixture of Soul, Jazz and the Blues. In most cases, the bass stands out from the song, and the beats are repetitive and predictable in nature, giving it a catchy feature. Furthermore, the beat follows the singer’s vocal high and low notes, as if the beat was singing along. Relating to the lyrics and grooving with the captivating melody are how listeners interact with this genre.

Music is a form of art, and since art reflects life, it only makes sense that music is reflective of life. Music is used all over the world to express thoughts, feelings, and behaviors; whether it is used to express celebration, the act of worship, the act of mourning, just to dance to, or any other reasoning, it all comes back to the idea that music reflects life. One genre of music that is particularly obvious in what it is trying to express, is blues music. Blues music is a genre of music that is most often associated with melancholy lyrics and notes, combining slow and long patterns and melodic sequences. After first rising to popularity at a fundamental time in our country’s history, blues music eventually went on to become one of the most impactful aspects in the music world because of the several artists that gave it notoriety, as well as its obvious influence on other important musical genres and styles.
