To begin this discussion of this unfortunate incident obviously there was a lack of communication by all parties involved. An incident such as this one should never have occurred to begin with, but since the person is an indigent perhaps this is why this oversight occurred. Using the classic decision model the first thing that we have to do as stated is identify the problem. As stated by South University, “determine what additional information you need and where you will get it to clearly define the problem.” (South University, 2013, Decision-Making Model). The problem is the hospital allowed an indigent in the hospital for dialysis which the hospital does not allow. The hospital managers and administrators need to understand how this problem occurred, why it occurred, and speak to the people involved who allowed this person into the hospital for this procedure. The second part of the classic decision model is determining who the stakeholders are involved in the situation. We need to determine how to handle this situation and who to speak to about it. As stated by South University, “When you decide who should participate, you will also decide how they participate. You will want to speak with some people individually, especially those persons who contribute technical or other knowledge relating to the subject matter and who is a specialist in the situation,” (South University, 2013). The main concepts in the presentation were the emergency operational center, tiered response, shelters, demobilization, and demobilization. Escalation of an emergency situation can lead to disaster; which is an unusual event that can cause lost of life and property (Salman Sawalha, 2014). The response to any emergency is considered to be very critical and therefore should be as efficient as possible. In the healthcare sector, responses to situations are counted by the seconds. From natural disasters to epidemics, the only chance left to respond to any of this occurrence could only be counted in seconds. That means life is either saved or lost in a matter of seconds. Putting in place certain responses to these unexpected occurrences, such as crises management communication plan, help save lives and arrest crises from aggravating. Failure to have crises management communication plan is considered by many commentators to be a crisis in itself. Accepted medical care is highly dependent on effective communication between healthcare providers and the patients; among healthcare providers and the outside world. The characteristics of crises make it necessary for prior planning and effective communication among stakeholders in the health sector (Klaene and Sanders, 2006; Ronen, 2006).
Over the past few decades, the significance, magnitude and consequence of risk management and communication have been brought before the world over and over again in a number of situations related to health, terrorist activities, natural disasters etc. When one turns the pages of history, it is rather obvious that lack of planning and absence of resources due to unpreparedness makes it difficult for the concerned authorities to manage an emergency or epidemic a problematic and traumatic task.
