Depression is a common disease that has plagued people for as long as there have been people. So many people suffer from it today although not nearly enough of them seek help for dealing with it. Depression is a serious disease that affects the mind yet so many people make it out to be less than it is. My moods rise and fall constantly for the smallest reason and sometimes for no apparent reason at all. I suffer from extreme self loathing and i am a recovering cutter. I tried to kill myself three times and I have been clean (from cutting) for three months. Therapy and medications have never really worked for me, the medications only made it worse and for the most part doctors are easily fooled into believe that their patient is recovering. I had to learn how to deal with my bouts of depression on my own with some help from my friends. Having a good support system is an essential part of dealing with depression without it dealing with it is next to impossible. I constantly talk to my friends and family about what I am going through and while it helps the real power to my recovery journey is within me. I am the key to my own strength and my own happiness and one day I will learn to love
Major depression is a medical illness that is characterized by feeling of sadness, disappointment, and despair. It is a “whole body illness” that involves emotional, physical, intellectual, social, and spiritual problems. Also called major depressive disorder and clinical depression, it affects how a person feels, thinks and behaves. They may have trouble doing normal day-to-day activities, and depression may make them feel as if life isn't worth living.
It doesn't present only during times of corresponding darkness and uncertainty; it can't be exiled by times of relative joy or contentment. Depression can be impacted by events in the outside world but the thing about it is that it doesn't need to be. It's always there, at best surviving inside you like a dormant virus waiting patiently for its chance to flare up and take total control; at worst, totally in control, pulling you down into a thick murk you can't break free of no matter how hard you may struggle. Put simply, it doesn't matter how happy you should be, how awesome your life is, how successful you are, how many people look at you and think you're on top of the world and are understandably smiling through every second of it -- if you're depressed, there's a very good chance you're always depressed. Just because you can't see it at a given moment doesn't mean it’s not there. Depression is absolute. It's a loss of hope and an unwitting relinquishing of belief -- and it hurts like Hell, so much so that after a while the acceptance of the pain becomes matter-of-fact and second nature.
Sometimes you have to walk through fire in order to save your life. It’s been exactly a year since I was burdened with the biggest blessing. Living with the diagnosis of clinical depression, Hell feels like normal. It never seems to go away but you learn how to manage it. Some days are dark. Others are filled with swatches of yellow, as if you were hanging them on a wall, debating which shade to paint your kitchen. At this point in my life, I have more control and I'm happier and more confident than ever. The darkness finally became the light, and I was able to courageously crawl out from rock bottom only to find my closest friends and family extending their love.
