I have never been into art or liked the arts for that matter, I cannot draw to save my life and being creative with art brings my imagination to a halt. When I saw this project, I wasn’t sure what I would use to help make the art, most people I saw were using metals, but I wanted to do something different and that made me nervous. But I had an even harder time figuring out what I wanted to create. I had about a million ideas in my head, but had an extremely hard time looking at things that I found and picturing them all together becoming a sculpture.
I started out with sticks and paper garbage that I had found around my home and the places where I walk my dogs. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with them, but I felt like they were the material I wanted to use. After I had gathered enough sticks and pieces of paper that I found on the ground I sat down and tried to brainstorm what I could make. I came up with the idea of getting the sticks together in a ball and gluing the trash paper on to create the look of the continents and the sticks be a globe. I figured out very fast that the sticks would not hold together, even after I soaked them in water. I ditched that idea and moved on to a new one.
I still had all the garbage that I found and figured I could make good use of that. After ditching the sticks (not on the ground I put them in my green trash can so they could be picked up and disposed of properly) I focused on the paper materials that I had picked up. I thought
The piece of art I chose is called Batman created by Lino Tagliapietra made in 1998. The median is glass. Batman is a U shaped figure with very pointy ends and 2 little spikes sticking out of the top. The right end sits up higher then the left end. The artwork is smooth with little dimples all over it. It’s red on the whole sculpture with a blue stripe horizontally through the middle.
Art History is the study of objects of art in their historical development and stylistic contexts. The history of art, we feel, can sometimes be confused with art criticism. However, Art History is concerned with finding the value of the artistic piece in respect with others in the same category of art or movement, and art criticism is more of an evaluation of art. The art examined best represents the culture during the time period, visions the artist imagined, and history behind an event. It also represents society in a specific area, beliefs the people may have, writing that tells a story, the natural world and environment, conflict between people and areas, and the human body. With these representations, artwork overall represents the life in which we live (d). Each piece has its own genre, design, format and style to it. This makes each piece extremely different, yet pleasing to the eye. They also vary between paintings, sculptures and architecture. These different types also make a variety of artwork to be seen by all people. The art pieces that I chose, Jar, Bottle and Glass by Juan Gris, The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dalí, and Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh, seemed interesting to me and I believe to best represent the context in which they were created, along with the major artistic movements of the time. I went on to research them more thoroughly to better understand the history behind them,
This artwork appears to be an abstract piece made from magazine clippings to create a collage. The artwork is a vertical piece that measures approximately 17 x14. It focuses in on the subject of a girl who is created out of neutral colors. She stands out against the rainbow background. In the background each clipping has a different element and pattern, but they all work in unison creating a rainbow background.
Through this film I can relate quite a few experiences, and feelings that I’ve felt as a creator in my own life. Throughout my life I feel that there have been a multiple times where. As an artist and a person, I felt like my ideas and valued haven’t been supported. Just like the artists and creatures in the film. While this is never a good thing, I think it’s important. Not only because it makes you stronger, but because it makes people want to support and respect your ideas more. The only way to gain recognition is through endurance and persistence. You have to take and accept criticism, but you have to also stick to your original idea and it’s influences while doing it. Having endurance was something that I felt the films went over well that I could relate to on a personal level.
Case Study: The use of assemblage and the found object in historical and contemporary art practice.
Rathnasambhava, the Transcendent Buddha of the South and Madonna Enthroned are very similar images that were produced by very different cultures. Both images were produced during the 13th Century. The image of Rathnasambhava, the Transcendent Buddha of the South was produced in Tibet during an interesting period of the country’s religious history. The branch of Tibetan Buddhism is led by a religious and sometimes political leader called the Dalai Lama. It was during the 13th Century during the reign of Kublai Khan, around the time of the production of this painting, that Tibet experienced the first incarnation of the Dalai Lama. One has to wonder if this painting is somehow related to that occurrence. According to
1) Discuss why people can respond differently to the same artwork. People can respond differently to artwork by making the art come alive by letting the art engage your attention, your imagination and your intelligence. With these three items mentioned can look at artwork differently, so if you look at a piece of art with the lack of attention and the next person gives the artwork their full attention that person could possibly view more in depth and see more detail than the person who pays less attention to the piece of art. 2) More than one theme might be applied to a work of art. Pick a work of art from Chapter 3 and describe how two different themes might be applied to it.
The name of my project is “The Peace Arch”. I named my project this because my branches form an arch and it looks very simple and peaceful. I chose the bowl because I wanted a shallow bowl that didn't take any attention away from my flowers and leaves. I chose to fill my bowl with rocks instead of Styrofoam because I thought it would look earthy and natural. I chose my flowers because they were different shades of pink and they came with different sizes and length of branches. I also chose my flowers because they look like cherry blossoms. My project represents peace and love. The rocks and the simpleness of the project represents peace and the pink flowers represent the love. I placed my branches and my flowers on opposite sides of my bowl
How are you using the various skills you have learned from other projects to create an accurate model of your monument?
The art piece that I chose to critique is the sculpture of a figure kneeling down and getting shocked. It is located on campus near the Morris University Center(muc). When I first saw this sculpture it caught my attention immediately, because of how gruesome the piece was. I feel like I don’t have a good understanding of what the sculpture represents, but it seems like it would raise plenty of controversy, due to its erotic features. It seems like the artist was venting his emotions when he created his idea. The sculpture is fairly large in size, which makes it noticeable, among the other art pieces on campus. The sculpture media consist of wood and concrete, and metal mostly. The individual is keeling down toward the west and is supported
At an age when my friends’ floors were strewn with toys, dirty clothes, or video-game cartridges, mine was smothered in paper of all sorts — books, magazines, reams of white and college-ruled, paper bags, paper airplanes. This pattern has survived, and it is representative of the way I live. The house of my life is built on a foundation of paper.
I used the Elements of Art, Line by creating buildings, road, sidewalk, and the light posts out of lines and had those lines connect to make all those things. Another Element of Art, Value was used in my project as I added value
“I sculpted a maquette and presented it to the board. My hope was we could do a project that was 100% local. A local sculptor, local fabricator, and get local artists to enhance the work”, Elder said.
Blown glass art is something I found very interesting since we went over it in class. This sculpture has different blown class structures coming out of it randomly, and all different shapes. I believe its a very vibrant sculpture that really you can't miss. Next is the Dandelion it is made out of gold-plated bronze and beryllium. The sculpture sits on a beryllium rod with a ball at the top, coming out of the ball is golf-plated
If you have some free time and have always wanted to visit an art gallery, a start is the Art Sacré exposition. Just do not expect high quality art. Running from October twenty-third to December eight-teenth at Les Salles de Gesù, the exposition features four artists depicting spirituality and inner self.
