Throughout this unit, we have learnt about autism-a common neurological disorder- and how to format and write an effective essay. Also, while reading the novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time and watching the film Rain Main, we learnt how two different autistic people present themselves in different situations. Both stories taught me that those who have autism are equally as capable to attain any goals they set. Also, throughout this unit we discussed key elements to include in an effective essay, and how to format those components. Overall, in this unit, there were many new topics learnt, that can benefit me in future years. To begin with, throughout this entire unit, our central topic was autism. We gained new knowledge on autism in many ways. As a class, we read a novel The Curios Incident of the Dog in the Night Time which follows the journey of an autistic boy; Christopher. Along the way, I learnt many new things about autism that I was not aware of prior to reading the novel. I learnt that every autistic person is different from another; all autistic people are not the same and each reacts to differently in different situations. To add on, I also learnt that there is a spectrum of autism, everyone is placed differently on the spectrum, which shows how they’re able to communicate themselves, or present themselves to the people around them. Autism Spectrum Disorder. ASD. Autism. When people hear any of these, it’s either “avoid that person at all costs”, “be super sympathetic”, “pretend to be their friend” or “I have no idea what that is”. My best friend and illustrator of my second book, has no idea what autism is. I tried explaining it to her. It’s very hard to explain how you feel, first of all. To put the fact that you are autistic makes it even more difficult. It doesn’t bother me too much that she doesn’t know. As long as she knows that I truly am a good person, we’re good.

Many children are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder every year, while others go undiagnosed for an extended time, or even for their whole life. A child exhibiting delays in language benchmarks or showing little interest in the surroundings should be examined for possible ASD. Language is often impaired and although the level of impairment can range from severe too unnoticeable in each child, a child is likely to have a delay in another area, like coordination of motor skills, if not in language. Childhood disintegrative disorder, also known as Heller 's syndrome is a rare condition characterized by a late onset of developmental delays in language, social function, and motor skills. Asperger Syndrome is a developmental disorder related to autism and characterized by higher than average intellectual ability coupled with impaired social skills and restrictive, repetitive patterns of interest and activities. Atypical Autism is the term used when the person has symptoms but don’t have all the symptoms to diagnose Autism. Atypical autism usually differs from autism in terms either of age of onset or of failure to fulfill all three sets of autism diagnostic criteria.
Autism is a disorder that has to do with developmental issues that lead to communication and interaction impairments.Fifty years ago people would be clueless as to how to help people with Autism, fortunately medical technology has improved greatly since then and we are much more successful at understanding and treating Autism. Although a cure has not been found for Autism yet scientists are still working 24/7 to make this happen. In the meanwhile, it would greatly benefit us all to have some essential information about it so that if one ever does come to meet a person with Autism he or she can be respectful and helpful. Autistic infants often show little or no interest in other people and lack typical social behaviors. For example, they may not smile at their mother's voice or make eye contact with caregivers. Autistic children fail to develop normal relationships with their parents, brothers or sisters, and other children. Often they seem unaware of the needs and feelings of other people, and may not respond if another person is hurt or in distress. They also fail to make friends.
There are a few different viewpoints on the Autism CARES Act from the taxpayer’s perspective. These perspectives are largely based on that person’s general beliefs about autism or how this policy affects people with autism spectrum disorders and their families. To many it was clear that the Combating Autism Act (CAA) had been largely unsuccessful and they were looking at how this policy could be improved. General concerns regarding this policy are centered around how the funding is being used and in what ways it is benefiting those with autism. Some believe that this policy would be better if there were a few changes, while others have a negative view of the policy as a whole; people also realize that the policy is not exactly perfect, but it is a start.
I decided to write about Autism and what it is all about. It is something that is on the rise and that is a huge part of the ECE world. Autism is a lifelong, developmental disability that affects how a person communicates and relates to other people, and how they experience the world around them. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autism are both of the terms used for disorders of brain development. These disorders are different; there are different degrees to this brain development, like problems in social interactions, verbal communication, nonverbal communication, and repetitive behaviors. Autism disorders were merged into one. ASD is sometimes associated with intellectual disabilities, difficulties in motor coordination, difficulties with attention and physical health issues such as sleep like I said above and stomach issues, usually caused by anxiety due to autism. Some of the time people with autism excel in visual skills, music, math and art. The reason for these excels it because children with autism are way more organized and pay attention to every detail. This topic is interesting to me because of all of the reasons it can occur I want to know more about its attributes and complications. I want to know more about autism so I can be successful in my career if I work with these children. Autism is a neurological disorder that affects many people all around the world. This disorder can be either moderate or severe and affects the body in several ways. People who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) have their expressive, receptive communication, social skills, and socialization disrupted. It has not been until the past several years in which this disorder has received more attention and awareness than it had ever before.
According to the article "Autism" the author stated that, " Early studies suggested that five children out of 10,000 had Autism Spectrum Disorder." Also, in the same article the author states that, " People with Autism have problems with communication and social interaction." I believe that people should be much more understanding and tolerant of people with Autism. Those people have disadvantages , such as : difficulty with language , which they make up with advantages , such as : putting clues together , and having the unique interest and talents , as my amazing brother Ted.
Autism is on the rise. Many researchers feel the reasons isn’t because there are more kids being afflicted with it, but the increased public awareness has allowed this disorder to be more easily recognized and diagnosed at a earlier age.
I believe I will gain a lot through interacting with my learner, which will give me a better perspective on autism. I have a lot to give as well. Some of my strengths are that I am patient and I believe that is a positive asset in bonding with the child. I am very optimistic and motivated which makes me love doing what I do. I am punctual; and always arrive at where I am supposed to be on time or even earlier. Lastly, I am viewed friendly, as well sensitive to the needs of others. I as well have a strong desire to help improve the ability of the children with autism to lead more productive and fulfilling

In the search to find scholarly and empirical evidence related to therapeutic effects of pet therapy among autistic children, the La Salle University library catalog was used to search through the CINAHL database and select studies according to relevancy. The reference range used for the search was restricted to published articles from 2012-2017 and the use of selective keywords, such as: autism, pet therapy, animal-assisted, disability, children, and benefits of pet therapy. The abstracts of many scholarly journals were analyzed to determine if the criteria of the research question was met. As a result of the conducted research, 1 systematic review and 5 primary sources were chosen for the review of literature.
