Ruvina Perera - Reflection
At the beginning of my ATS unit my career goals were to be successfully offered an interview and gain a position in bachelor of Medicine in 2018 and to explore other medical field jobs I can do by the end of 2017 so I know what other alternative options are available. My learning goal was to get four HD’s for my semester two units in 2017. Even though it’s too early to say whether I will be achieving my goals, I still have the same career and learning goals. The only difference is that the strategies I have for achieving them are different and I’m also more aware of the hurdles that I may have to face in order to achieve my goals.
For my learning goal strategy, I had initially stated that every Sunday I will

Although, I agreed that at the start when I was doing my week 2 portfolio, after the semester I personally think any goal is achievable whether big or small as long as your resilient and work towards it.
In week 3 we explored personality tests. I’ve always done the online short fun quizzes to find which career would suit my personality but I wasn’t aware that there was a whole career theory dedicated to that area. When I learnt about Myer Briggs and Hollands personality test, I was sceptical but I do now see the benefit they can provide. The Holland type personality tests gave me the acronym of SIE, which is social, investigate and entrepreneurial (Staunton 2015). It directed me towards jobs as a community health worker or a law teacher. The Myer Briggs code personality test gave me a ENFJ (extravert, institutive, feeling and judging personality) (Boyle, 1995). It also directed me to community care and teaching. I still agree that personality tests are useful for self-awareness and using the tests as a way to develop strategies that suit your personality rather than a career. The personality tests gave me good tips for learning methods which helped me keep my in-semester grades above HD for this semester. The personality tests helped me learn about my own strengths, weakness and possible improvements. I think an individual’s personality is always changing. As people
For my first goal, it is imperative that I obtain an 80% or higher in all my classes for at least one semester during my first two years at University of Maryland (UMD). Accomplishing this goal will guarantee my continuation of the Academic Achievement Program (AAP), and having a B or higher in every class will exempt me from falling below a 2.0. This is SMART goal because it states exactly what I want to achieve for all my classes in one semester. It is measurable and timely because I have given myself four chances to achieve one goal for only one semester. It is achievable if I take advantage of all of my resources, such as my professors, peers, tutors, and the writing center. I will utilize these
My personal goal is to be able to obtain my degree that I have been wanting since middle school. That was to become an Accountant, as well as give my daughter the will to never quit on her dreams or goals. The profession al aspect of an Accounting degree will give me the validity that I have the credentials to do this and I can stop getting rejected because I’m over qualified or because I do not have a degree. With this in mind I can start my own practice. My educational goal is to be at the top of my class for graduation, this is what I am aiming for, so with that in mind I can accept a C but I am aiming for an A or better. No one is perfect so baby steps work for me, Rome wasn’t built in a day, and learning is not accomplished in a day. Everything
Reflection is a major factor in "developing self-awareness" to improve services provided to everyone around me, this is to develop my own understanding in realising the good and bad made previously. Moving forward with a better understanding, as well as rectifying the mistake whilst recognizing the good points, (Horton-Deutsch and Sherwood, 2008).
“Keep your goals out of reach, but not out of sight.” –Anonymous. All goals in life should be challenging, or a dream you have. Never set the bar too low, to make it easy on yourself, nor set the bar to high, that makes you put yourself under some much stress so it makes it impossible to reach your goal at a healthy state in mater in your life. Having goals in your life helps you picture what you want in the future and what the future has in store for you. There is a difference between the goals you want to happen soon and the goals you want to happen in the future. The goals you what to happen soon are call short term goals. The goals that you have set for your future are called long term goals. Three short term goals I have are, making it to state track, joining NHS and NSHSS, and getting my CNA. A long term goal I have is to graduate from The University of Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in
My personal goals are that I want to be sure what I want to be so I don’t have to do more school then I really need. I have been planning my future for a while now I’m ready to start my future and doing what I like to do is help others that need the help. I don’t need anything else then to see people happy and healthy. I also remember helping my grandma when she got sick I also made sure she did some of her exercises the doctor instructed once a week. Therefore, my one goal is to finish this last year in high school with the highest grades I can get so I can be ready for the next step of my future. I’m strong in everything that I was I am and I am grateful that I’m healthy and doing well and I don’t just focus on myself and sometimes I worry
The goals I have set will be tough only because I know I am capable of accomplishing them. In my past, I have kept straight A’s and been very involved on campus. I have been in ASB for two years and have conquered the position of Senior Class
To be good at something, you must fail and learn from your mistakes. I know that writing essays is my weakest point when it comes to scholar work. I tend to want to finish my work as fast as possible with little to no revision. Additionally, because of the want to finish fast, my sentence structure is weak and most of the time it doesn’t make any sense. My writing is often vague since I just want to finish, so I get straight to the point and ignore adding any details to the main points I am covering. But because I have revised every essay I wrote I have seen an improvement in my own writing skills. Despite rushing all the essay, I wrote in WRC 1013 my writing skills have improved because I have revised every essay I have written and fixed
Throughout this semester of English 49 the students were instructed to write an array of essays: Whole Process Essay (WPE), Revised Argumentative Essay (RAE), Unrevised Timed Essay (UTE). The essays each required a different writing technique. The WPE focused on personal experience and basic writing composition. The RAE was an argumentative essay about whether or not Schools should be reformed and how. The UTE focused on the student's ability to write under time constraints while still writing at a college level. While writing these essays I was able to reflect on my own writing to identify my weaknesses and strengths, find improvement throughout the course, and determine areas I needed to focus on.
In my time as a student at Winthrop University, there have been numerous experiences that have molded me into the future educator that I hope to become. Some of the greatest experiences that have helped shape me are my class time in CRTW 201, my class time in EDUC 220, and my time teaching private lessons with the Clover High School Band Program. Each of these experiences has played a large role in helping me become the teacher I am today and the teacher that I aspire to be.

Over the last couple weeks, I have had the amazing opportunity to work alongside Alex, Shaun, and Lance at the Center for Bone and Joint Disease (C.D.J.D) in Hudson Florida. I consider myself extremely fortunate for being assigned this clinical location because I have been exposed to so much in such a short period of time. Not only are Alex, Shaun, and Lance excellent radiological technologists who are eager to share with me everything they know, but C.B.J.D. Hudson is incredibly busy because of how many patients are seen there every day. This has given me countless chances to hone the skills I have learned in the classroom and has quickly shown me traits and skills I have I am proud to call
Both simple and complex reflections were used. A simple reflection used towards the beginning of the interview transpired into, “pretty active out doing a lot of things.” Alternatively, a complex reflection used when reflecting on Sarah’s feelings about what her friends think about her not socializing subsisted of, “it bothers you thinking about them, wondering about your intentions.” I used twice as many complex reflections as simple reflections. Unfortunately, I should have used many more complex reflections so there was two reflections for every question instead of the other way around. In order to reflect the amount of fun she had with friends, I could have said, “It sounds like you had a ton of fun just hanging out
In Unit 6 we not only learned about Goal setting, but we also put it to the test. I’ve already had a couple of goals in mind that I’ve thought of as “achievements” but now I realize that they are actually goals. This means that these “achievements” or goals are stepping stones for my future, not only in my career path but also for day to day things that could have a drastic outcome on my future. For instance, one of my goals are to become a photographer for a newspaper which is a long-term goal, and then there are smaller goals, short term goals, like getting my art on various websites and listing my email to hopefully get a business set in place. Even this short term goal, of putting my art on various websites, and listing some of my information, could have very important effects on my future. If I put my art on various websites then I could have chance of a lifetime to be either recognized by business and possibly get a job, or just get the exposure that I will need to move on with my photography in the future. So even if the goal is a long term goal, there are many short term goals that are needed in order to achieve that long term goal, no matter how hard it may seem. Moreover, this shows some of the goal building strategies that we learned in this unit.
In the 2015-2016 school year, I taught one section of a 6th grade gifted course. I was new to the curriculum, the course, and the activities that we were doing. Prior to the start of that year, there was a couple of 60 in 60 sessions which were designed to expose us to a number of different new technologies. Being interested in technology, I picked up a couple of ideas, like Sway, Edpuzzle, and Nearpod and tried to incorporate them into the new lessons I was trying to teach. However, by being a novice to the course, there was no continuity to the technology in the activities that we completed. Throughout the course, I taught the 8 steps to the research process as students worked to complete a more focused, centered approach to
The inspiration for Chantal and I’s praxis paper was from Carl Leggo’s article, “Pedagogy of the heart”. As I read Leggo’s ruminations between his prose story and his poetic expression I realized his article read like a praxis paper. When thinking about how to conceptualize this paper Chantal and I were bogged down by ‘in the box’ thinking until we were lamenting on Leggo’s method of narration and expression. I could not help but feel happy when I read Leggo’s article, it was free, honest, and creative, I could literally read the passion of his pedagogy in every word. Leggo would write a portion of his story and what he learned in his prose portion but expressed and connected his next prose with a
