Interning at Senator Mike Morrell’s office was a great experience because it allowed me to understand California politics and its functions. This internship was an amazing experience because it was not your typical internship experience. Although I had many office duties, such as answering phones, taking phone messages, and organizing papers, I was also able to take advantage of other opportunities they gave me. Everyday every intern has to turn in Newspaper Clips, where we have to find newspaper articles about political topics in the federal, state, and community level. I honestly learned a lot from doing Newspaper Clips because I do not keep up with current events voluntarily. I learned about Paul Ryan’s appointment as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, the attacks in Paris, and have kept up with the presidential election campaigns because of my research via Newspaper Clips. I was able to learn a lot about political current events. They also have us researching bills from the …show more content…
It was interesting to observe how state senators and assemblymen engage with constituents. I also listened to several different politicians speak about different issues during the Lincoln Club luncheons. I learned a lot about how politicians interact with people and how they get their point across to a wide audience. Senator Mike Morrell is a strict Constitutionalist. Therefore, I was able to learn a lot about the Constitution. They had me listen to lecture videos about the Constitution. In addition, we also had group discussions about the importance of the Constitution and how politicians need to do a better job in understanding the Constitution. Senator Mike Morrell also stressed how the Constitution is not a living document and we must understand it in order to truly apply it to our laws
Interning at the FBI is one of my most meaningful experiences because it gave me the opportunity to serve in my community, learn how to effectively communicate between the intelligence community and the outside community, as well as strengthened my leadership skills.
One very interesting thing that I got to take part in was watching the Republican and Democrat party leaders argue over issues that are happening in the United States right now. The funniest part was that they are both really good friends but they were both definitely grounded to their own political views.
Is a lesson for us to learn that Senator have a hard job and that society sometimes might think that passing bills is something that can be done in a minute. Overall the experiences was interesting as representing Bob Casey is somewhat challenging as it a lot that it had to be learned that consumed a lot of time. However learning about Casey was very fun to do as not only gave me the opportunity of how a senator feels but it gave me a new goal in life of pursuing more politics. Model Senate is a good idea for students because is another atmosphere where you get to visualize how laws are made, and it get us to follow rules that we learned in class but is not the same as working with them in
During this session we learned some fascinating information about the progressive era. For me personally, I enjoyed learning about the early progressive era and the evolution of government. Some of my largest takeaways were pertaining to boss politics and how taxes started in the American society. Prior to this evening I
For my civic engagement project I attended the State of the State Address hosted by Governor Andrew Cuomo. The event was held at SUNY Purchase and filled with many politicians, students, educators, reporters, and many other adults. You can feel the excitement in the room from everyone who wanted to hear what our Governor had to say about his agenda for this year.
For my internship, I served under the Allegheny County Health Department in Pittsburgh, PA. I served as the National Health Corps Member for the Women, Infants, and Children Program as their Care Coordinator for all nine offices. Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a supplemental nutrition agency that targets pregnant and postpartum women and young children ages 5 and under who are at risk of malnutrition. My supervisor Annie Nagy along with my mentors in the office made sure I was able to receive all of the materials and resources I would need to have a complete and successful internship.
I found the two days of Mock Congress very informative into the practices and procedures of the U.S Senate. Personally, I am very interested in politics and how it works and is structured. One thing I enjoyed was the freedom to really say whatever I pleased within reason. However, I found it kind of bland in the sense that the parties were colors and there was no real division among votes besides that of those who wanted to spice things up a little bit.
12 years ago the senate passed a statute that ordered every educational institution to honor the history and development of the constitution by setting aside one day for reflection. I had the opportunity to be apart of California Baptist Universitie’s meeting deticated to this special day. Trinity law school Professor Myron Steeves devoted an hour of his time to inform the meeting’s audience of the history and development of the U.S. Constitution.
Hearing Jay Erskine Leutze speak at the convocation helped me to further understand his book Stand Up That Mountain. I was able to understand why he had written the book and what led him to be passionate about conservation. It also helped me understand the importance of the Appalachian Trail and what a true beauty it is and that it was worth the fight for the people that call it home.
I was excited to learn about the numerous internship opportunities that are offered by the Center for American Progress. I have a very strong interest and to contribute to the mission and values that this policy institute presents as well as gain knowledge from work and research being done. I firmly believe that I can support the goals Center for American Progress and that my experience aligns with what you’re looking for.
This internship experience at Superdome Sports has allowed me to build on many skills needed to develop my professional career. For starters, it has given me the opportunity to effectively communicate with peers and professionals, both orally and in writing. My responsibilities included a lot of communication with the customers at the front desk, where I helped them with any questions or issues they may have had. I was able to build my customer service skills by helping them in the best possible way with the most clear and correct answers. I also worked with many employees. It was my responsibility to clearly communicate the schedule for the week as well as the staff schedule for the counselors. Not only that, but whenever there was a
I got to watch the legislative branch of our state pass and deny new bills I had no idea what the bills were and all the legal jargon went over my head. What I did understand was that the bills were presented to senators or representative depending on what part of the building I was at , but they were voting saying yes or no on the bills that were presented to them. I was watching governmental policies being accepted or denied, from the balcony over the house or senate floor. I was able to watch governmental processes occur right in front of me and I felt like that I was a part of it even though I really
After working with multiple campaigns this summer, my personal and professional growth in the field of political science has increased significantly. The opportunities that have come to fruition through my time and commitment to these individuals running for political office have changed my outlook on the political process. It takes a lot of groundwork to efficiently connect with voters, even in a state that is perceived to vote in one direction. After researching multiple perspectives and salient points, it is clear that there is no substitute for the internship experience when it comes to first hand knowledge of any type of work.
This internship has played a huge part in my decision to pursue a Master’s degree in Nonprofit Organizations, as I have learned more about how a nonprofit is run and been able to see the impacts this organization has on so many people. During this internship, I have designed two websites, helped run a successful fundraising campaign, helped with our Facebook and Instagram accounts, taken pictures, and created many videos displaying the incredible things our organization does on a daily basis. Through this experience, I have been able to witness how much of an impact I can have just by being an intern. Being able to serve people with my talents of design and marketing in the office and seeing that benefit people outside of the office has been an eye-opening experience. For a long time, I thought that serving others was best done with hands-on service such as what I did on summer staff. However, during my time in the office, I have realized just how much work and effort goes on behind the scenes and what a significant impact it makes on our participants and their families, as well as our staff. Seeing all of this during this past semester has made me even more confident in my decision to pursue a Master’s degree in Nonprofit
I was very excited to begin my internship at Paul Hastings, as it was my first real experience in corporate America. I’ve had multiple internships before, but I never felt like I was pushed into a better professional. Upon beginning this internship, I was looking forward to a challenge and that is absolutely what I got.
