In the past years of my school journey from middle school now to high-school, I have struggled with writing papers. I was not an excellent writer or rather the best writer. I had trouble with expressing my main idea of my paper whenever I was given a topic. Even though my teachers would tell me to brainstorm before I started writing, I still somehow struggled because I was better at letting ideas flow through my head as I write. I was not an expert at developing sentence structure or details as well. Over the course of my life, I have grown in these areas. Understanding the author’s purpose of an article is very important. When I understand the author’s purpose of the article, I am able to develop my sentences based off his or her purpose. I am able to organize my paper in a way my audience can understand the author’s purpose. It helps me to relate to my audience and make my audience relate as well. In my article” Mittendorf’s Argument” which was my summary & response essay , I explained his purpose for writing very well . I showed this skill by stating that he wrote the article to tell his audience that even though the Red Cross is flawed, their intentions lead to a great cause which was providing for the Harvey Effect(par.2). This evidence revealed that I understand an author’s purpose for writing his or her article.

I have also developed great skills in being very descriptive in my essays. The description of certain objects or situations in an essay helps my audience visualize that information in their heads. It also reveals the meaning of my topic sometimes because it gives the audience a vivid explanation of what is being described. This skill helps develop my purpose for the audience ,so they can understand my purpose throughout the use of descriptive language. In my literacy narrative, I described how literacy made me who am today “the things I read and write identify who i am today”(par.4).
