Child Development and Learning A child’s development through their learning experiences are critical in knowing where a child’s standpoint is throughout their proper development stages. It is important to know the variety of disabilities and their characteristics in order to ensure the best quality of education for each child. In Module 5, a chart was made for comparing and contrasting disability characteristics in regards to different disorders. The disorders illustrated within the chart were specific learning disabilities, social, emotional, behavioral disorders, and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. The creation of this chart can assist a teacher in preparing individually appropriate lesson plans by knowing each of these disorders characteristics.

Chapter One opens with a discussion of how the modern family has molded and changed over the years. The “traditional family” is not so traditional anymore and early childhood facilitators are learning how to cope with these changes. For example, several early childhood care facilities are starting to move to more developmentally appropriate practices. A developmentally appropriate practice is one that is appropriate for the individual, society, and the child’s age. Child guidance is very important in the development of a child. Children look up to and strive to be like their adult figures so it is crucial that parents and early childhood facilitators are positive role models throughout their development. The chapter give several examples of
For this journal, I will be discussing my sister’s experience with childcare. For her two children, now ages 6 and 8, child care was a necessity as both she and their father work full time. After my nephew was born, my sister placed him in the daycare center available where she worked, and later when he started preschool, he spent half days at an in-home daycare ran by one of my sister’s best friends. After my niece was born, my sister started out using the in-home daycare, so both children would be at one place, but she later enrolled her at an early childhood center that also had a preschool for her to attend when she was ready.

Over the past few weeks through numerous discussions, debates, the use of videos, documentaries and even experiencing some play ourselves we have looked the many different issues within early childhood and analysed these through a number of different perspectives and theories. Throughout this essay I will reflect on how my thinking has changed and been shaped by these discussions over these few weeks and how this new knowledge will impact my future regarding children and the approach I may choose to take when working with them. This essay is primarily a focus on the key person who work with a small number of children and will be there to help not only when they first start school but throughout their time together and who also inform the child’s parents of how they handing school life, any progress they have made since starting and any problems they seem to be having. I will discuss my own personal thoughts and feelings towards this role in a children’s setting and whether I agree that this is necessary in helping children adjust to the school environment and encourages the child’s development not only educationally but socially as well.
The Early Childhood Education program at Carlow University focuses on educating children from birth to grade four in any context—school, family, or community. I have always believed that I had a strong ability to construct and phrase writings to sound and be grammatically correct. My profession within the field of Early Childhood requires constant written communication to be well formed and structured yet easily comprehendible for others to acknowledge. It needs to be clear and concise with direct formal and informal subject matters.
Chapter 5 “Early Childhood: Body and Mind” section “Thinking during Early Childhood” teaches about the cognitive development of children during early childhood at around ages 2-6 years old, in which, children targeted at this age do not use logical operations (reasoning process). Such a term is called the “Preoperational Intelligence” conducted by Piaget. Furthermore, Piaget’s preoperational thought establishes that children have language but use symbolic thought where “words can refer to things not seen and that an item, like a flag, can symbolize something else (in this case, a country).” Symbolic thought proves Animism; the belief that young children have thinking that “natural objects are alive and nonhuman animals have the same characteristics of a child” (Berger, 173).
The career that I have chosen to learn about is Early Childhood Development . The reason why I choose this particular career is because I wanted some insight on what it will be like to work with children in the future. Also while working with childrens, it will help guide me to become a better teacher and as well as a mother to my kids. Therefore, Early Childhood Education gives me a platform to push for my educational changes. Furthermore, I will be spending quality time with a career professional second grade teacher related to the study of Early Childhood Care and Education.
In this assessment I will be talking about the principles and philosophy of Frobel and Montessori, what they have in common and differences, there contributions to Siolta and my own thoughts in relation to early childhood education and their impact on the learning environment
