Throughout this semester year, I have accomplished four low stake assignments and many different types of writings and reports that I have never experienced before. By looking back to the works that I have done, I noticed several mistakes and learned new methods and skills that are needed for the the various types of writing, such as a police report, an academic cover, screenplay script, and even a social study questionnaire and its analysis. I also developed my ability to work in group from the group activities that Professor. Zuluaga assigned us to, along with the development of my ability to incorporate among the group members and myself. The and the social study questionnaire were the assignment that I particularly put most of my efforts
Writing is an important form of communication. It is a personal process that portrays your thoughts and views to someone else. It is not only an important skill to have for school work and certain professions, but daily messages such as emails, texts, and tweets as well. It can have a big impact on how you come across to certain people. Because of this, it is very important for me to practice writing. I believe that this course has improved my writing, which will help me in many ways in the future.
When reflecting on my experience writing, editing, and completing the culminating journal assignment, I found that it was fairly easy considering how this was an emotional, opinion based paper. This paper probably took me about three hours to complete because I had to thoroughly reminisce on what I had learned this semester. However, after taking a look over my journals, I found substantial growth in myself since the beginning of the school year. A specific challenge that I overcame when writing this paper was procrastination because I finished it as soon as I got it assigned. Additionally, I feel this paper highlights my intriguing flow and unique style of portraying ideas. Accordingly, I am most proud of how I elaborated on specific journals and thoughts throughout this paper. Overall, I hope to grow as a writer in the future by attending meetings at the writing center and asking teachers and peers for advice. In the end,
After looking back at all the writing I have accomplished in this class and experiences I have faced in other English classes, I realized how they have affected me as a writer and where I stand as one as of now. The writer I am today has been greatly benefited with years of learning English in school and other literacy sponsors. Throughout the years, I have learned a number of ways to write and I have been positively impacted by these methods. I now know the type of writer that I am and how I write best and in under which conditions. Now, I have my own writing process that most likely differs from my peers.
My writing experiences prior to this course have been mostly self-taught. Lacking much formal education the only writing I have been involved in over the years has been job related. I honestly cannot think of the last time I wrote any type of paper that was graded by a professional in the English field. I quit high school in 1994, obtained a GED, and finally decided to continue my education some 20 years later. I have enjoyed writing in the past but it was mostly in the form of lyrics, stories, blogs or daily journals. Writing, the way I have in the past, has been therapeutic for me. Whether or not academic writing provides me the same sense of therapy I have yet to figure out.
While I was starting the process of writing the connection narrative I felt that my writing was going in the right direction. When I finished my rough draft, I knew more work was required in order for me to get a high grade which I would eventually work on. Going into the peer review I felt nervous because I received low scores on my previous papers by my peers. When I got back both of my reviewed papers I was surprised, to say the least. I thought I understood the purpose of the prompt better. I lacked details on how the issue connected to me which discouraged me to keep writing. I felt embarrassed that my peers had reviewed my work. It was hard to accept that I don’t always have strong writing. I do appreciate the feedback they gave me which allowed me to rewrite everything in a way that would address the prompt and would be better understood.
I appreciate the time you taught me in this class. I’m lucky to have you as a professor, who takes personal time to help with assignments. I have learned a lot from thesis statement and develop and organize my essay. My favorite topic is chapter 13 make a point and chapter 14 structure. My issue was not having my essay organized. The chapter 13 helped me be clearer on my point what I’m writing about. The chapter 14 helped me organized my writing. Relearning this was a refresher.
As a student enrolled in all Honors English courses throughout my high school career, my teachers followed a relatively challenging curriculum. Every year, I was expected to write every one of the following types of texts at least one: argumentative, analysis and narrative. I have always considered English to be my best subject because not only was I enticed by it, but I was also excelled at it. Below, I will reflect on a few of the most honorable pieces of writing from my four years of high school. I will highlight my strengths, weaknesses and areas of improvement from each text as I have progressed a writer.
This past semester in English 205, I learned quite a few ways to improve my writing, such as how to write in certain styles (i.e. APA), along with even memorizing the proper ways to cite different sources for the reference page of my essays. Prior to taking this class, I had great difficultly formatting my essays for other classes in APA, mainly because the only format I learned was MLA in high school, yet all my professors last semester and this semester required their essays to be in APA. Thus, I am glad that I mastered the writing conventions of APA because I will no longer struggle with writing essays for my any classes with the fear that I will get points deducted from my total grade due to formatting. Another technique I am pleased to
I have witnessed myself intellectually grow since September of junior year, 2016. Coming into junior year, it was challenging for me to center my thoughts and have a developed focus in my essays. Furthermore, it was challenging to get my voice to the reader and slightly hard to understand the difference between critical analysis, synthesis, and summary. Through the progression of this year, I have slightly improved my critical analysis and synthesis skills; I have learned to continually ask myself “why” and “how” whenever I made a claim and combining sources together to develop a coherent well-developed essay. Starting out with the “The Great Influenza” in class essay, I was able to practice critical thinking
I think one of the aspects in my writing that is effective is being able to interpret the meaning of something and elaborate on it through my writing. When writing the paper on a book in the Nutrition Field, I was able to take the information provided and analyze it. I was able to take the preface of what the author wrote and explain his reasoning for it through context clues and other research. For the authors dedication in my book it was only two words “To Betty”, although no one knows who Betty is I was able to determine that Betty had to be his significant other or partner after reading the acknowledgements which help me realize it was wife. I like writing about things that there is a lot more detail hidden because there is just so much to write about.
Our next stop is the peaceful and picturesque lake, EWP Outcome #2! The second outcome aims to showcase my ability "to read, analyze, and synthesize complex texts and incorporate multiple kinds of evidence purposefully in order to generate and support writing." I believe that my first and second major paper are able to demonstrate my ability integrate readings and resources, and to use to use as sources and evidence for my writing.
Reflection “critical” because “it allows writers to recognize what they are doing in that particular moment, as well as to consider why the made the rhetorical choices they did” (Taczak 78). In other words, reflecting on your writing is a highly recommended step because it allows you to self assess your writing and give yourself feedback to further improve.
Throughout my four years of high school i've come to realize how much I love to write, especially creative writing. When I think about creative writing, I think about politics. Creative writing being liberal, while expository writing being more on the conservative side .What made creative writing so intriguing to me was, the ability to express my opinions on a certain topic ,and not having to worry if my option were wrong to others. All that mattered was if I believed in it . With creative writing I am willing to go deeper into a topic and explain what I think about that certain topic. Because of creative writing I found out many fascinating things I never knew about myself. I discovered that I’m a very opinative person who knows what
All through my life I have enjoyed writing way it be a short story or an essay. When I was younger I always wanted to be a writer, and the truth still holds true for today. Not only did this semester give me practice for writing but it taught me lots of new things about writing I never even knew about. The majority of what I learned came from doing the research paper, as each step taught me something new. Such as choosing a topic, researching the topic, citing sources, and finally writing the paper itself.
This paper is a reflective analysis of the work I’ve completed this semester in my COMP 1500 class. This autoethnography served as a way to explore my style of writing as well as discover different factors that influence my writing. Within this paper the main assignments focused upon are Project 1, Project 2, Journal 4, and Journal 7. Project 1 and Project 2 were high stake assignments while Journal 4 was an analyzing activity and Journal 7 was a brainstorming activity. In this paper I analyzed important aspects in my writing which include: how my identity and my style of writing changes based on my audience, the different ways I build my ethos and my use of logos, and the importance of kairos in order to persuade the reader. This paper also includes the way my writing is influenced by both the social culture and the academic writing culture.
