While observing a secondary classroom for my field experience, I learned several important things that I would not have been able to learn in a classroom. The experience showed me what it is like to be a teacher at this level and the many skills that are required in order to be a successful teacher. Another thing that was insightful while observing in the classroom, was the interview with my host teacher. He showed me a lot of things that I wouldn’t of been able to know without asking him. The experience showed me how to start the class efficiently, how to execute a lesson that is engaging, and taught me several things about the profession that aren’t common knowledge. The first thing that I learned was how to start a class out efficiently. Each class that I attended had a slightly different start, but they all contained an important element. The important element was that they were all took student focus from personal conversation and focused it on the teacher and his lesson for the day. Two effective ways that were used during this were starting class by asking a question about the last lesson that was taught and the other was starting class with a video. I learned a lot from both of these approaches because they showed me that you can have both of these planned, but you need to be able to get your students to focus on these things. What I learned from class was that you need something like this to engage the student, but what I learned from my observation was that you
During my field experience at Ridge Elementary school, I was placed in a 4th-grade classroom. While working on my field experience I had gotten the luxury to connect and bond with several types of student’s from various backgrounds and demographics. When I first stepped foot into the fourth-grade classroom it was very well decorated with quotes, educational tips, and motivational messages. There were three windows in which the students often gazed out while working. The walls were an eggshell color which was kind of depressing. Adding color to the walls would have made the environment feel a little more joyful yet the students still made that classroom their second home by decorating their desks.
During the months of September and October this semester I spent time at two different schools in four different classrooms. Being able to observe different classes and teachers at Westside Junior High and South Live Oak Elementary was a very new and exciting experience for me since I can’t say I’ve always wanted to be a teacher. My experiences at these schools gave me a better insight into the differences between schools, classrooms, and teachers. The purpose of this field experience was to get 10 observation or tutoring hours in an elementary or junior high setting. I chose to observe a
I have learned how to ask better questions and to talk to my teachers when I need help or do not understand the concept well. I make sure that I have a relationship with my teachers and introduce myself at the beginning of each semester. Learning how to communicate with my teachers
It helped me to take a step back and get to know each individual student and have a relationship with each of my students. It also helped me to understand that I need to arrange my lessons around my students needs and what makes sense to them and what they can relate to on a personal level. Each student is different and each student learns and understands materials in a differnent way and each student needs to be
My field experience took place at School for All Seasons in Isanti, MN. I spent some time in both a kindergarten and first grade classroom. This was an exciting time as I got be part of the kindergarten class on the first two days of school and the second week with the first grade classroom. The kindergarten classroom had approximately 18 students and the first grade classroom had approximately 22 students.
What skills have you learned or practiced? Relate the use or development to your classroom experience/learning? Did you feel the classroom experience prepared you to use or acquire this skill? Please discuss.
I learned that if I put a little more effort than I usually do then I could see a huge increase in performance and my grades. I learned that if I really pay attention to the directions that were given to me when they are given, it is a much easier time in the class. Also if I do not understand something, just asking someone next to me or the teacher or even a teacher's aid really helps so I fully understand the instructions
Through this experience I learned that as teachers we must be reflective before, during and after. This will affect my future teaching because I will allow students to have wait time, alter lessons, differentiate instruction, and reflect. Everything that I have learned in this class and through the field experience has provided me with tools that I can use to become a better
#1 Please describe how you have prepared for your intended major, including your readiness to succeed in your upper-division courses once you enroll at the university.
My child 's name is Jude Alexander and he is a male. As a baby he is cautious around new people and situations, but warms up fairly quickly to friendly people. In kindergarten Jude Alexander seemed to have made one or two friends and usually played cooperatively and was sometimes reluctant to join in new activities with unfamiliar children. He performed below average on tests of vocabulary, and the ability to retell a story. He had a real knack for the art projects, and really got interested in the pre-math activities involving working with blocks and geometric shapes. In first through fifth grade he worked cooperatively in groups, usually respects the rights and property of others, and usually demonstrates appropriate peer social interaction. He demonstrates strength in art, all areas of reading, and in spelling and appropriate for the grade level in writing. He needs additional help in the areas of speaking and listening and in the content knowledge of social studies, science and music. He was average in mathematical problem solving, understanding of data, number concepts, graphical applications, and arithmetic computation. In the seventh grade, he consistently contributes to cooperative group activities and respects the rights and possessions of others, and shows age-appropriate social interaction with peers. He demonstrates strength in art, reading, spelling and writing. He was average in math and science, and needs additional
Throughout the fieldwork experience I create two portraits. The first one of an infant or toddler who was between 0-30 months old and the second portrait of a child between the ages of 3 and 8. In order to create the portraits I observed and interview the children’s parent at their homes. Based on the observations and interviews I created the portraits and had the opportunity to learn about each child. The portrait written based on the children consisted of a general description of the child, a description of the child’s social-emotional being, child’s physical/motor skills, child’s adaptive skills and children’s language development. In addition, to a summary analysis and any suggestion I made to parents.
I chose Men’s Fellowship within the Church for my Field Education experience. This choice was the first goal during the first week of class. There are many areas of ministry to choose from; I selected Men’s Fellowship because it is critical to the growth and development of the overall body of Christ. One of the goals of Men’s Fellowship is to encourage men to dig deeper into their relationships with God, thereby empowering them to step into their roles as spiritual leaders. God’s order in the church and families has deteriorated. It is my prayer and mission to train up and teach men of God to take their places and to come from out of the shadow of women and to realize their identity in God.
The concepts that I learned helped me grow throughout the year. One concept was Philosophical Chairs, from my AVID class. It showed me how to compose a good debate on a subject of your choice. You should always have a straight statement and at least a couple facts and people to support your discussion on the subject of your choice. Another concept that I learned was Video Production. By teaching us this we learned how to follow directions and produce and direct a great video. You always need to be involved in this type of assignment. One more concept that I learned was about the Salt and Gold trade in history. In these times back then gold was a very important material that everyone wanted and it became a monumental time and part of West African history. All of these learning techniques and skills will definitely help me move on in my career.
There are many aspects to teaching and as a teacher it is necessary to understand the most important aspects of teaching and how they should be incorporated into the classroom. A teacher’s most important job is not to teach specific material but to build relationships with the students and ensure they feel safe and cared for. Once the teacher is able to ensure this then they should focus on teaching, however teaching is more than listing off facts and sharing information with the students. As teachers it is essential we try to engage our students. There are many ways to engage students and each teacher as a specific way they get their classroom involved in learning. During my field experience I have learned the importance of being able to engage students and I have seen what a classroom looks like when students are not engaged. My field experience has helped to reflect on student engagement and how I would place the experience in my philosophy of education.
I learned a great deal about the classroom environment, classroom administration, and classroom procedures in the special education. There is a great deal of preparation and training for professionals in special education. I got a closer examination and engagement with these kinds of
