Leadership Action
As part of the end of the school year and in order to celebrate the successes of our students and staff as well as build relationships between the community and the school, Theresa Bunker holds an annual community involvement activity called Camp Bunker. This year, as part of my practicum experience I was tasked with leading the planning and preparations for this week long event. Three months before the event took place, my team and I began preparations to make connections with the community including the fire department, police department, and several businesses to make this event successful, fun and memorable for the students. This required me to lead my team of teachers to make contact with several community members and organize the team to take on various responsibilities. Through this leadership action I was able to learn to delegate responsibilities, keep people accountable, and solve logistical problems as they arose.
Goal
One goal of this community involvement event was to first have an enjoyable experience for the entire student body and teachers. This is an annual event used as a celebration for all the hard work and improvement that has been done during the year. An additional goal of this event is to make connections within the community to the school. The students learn about possible careers they would like to have, how to have outdoor fun safely during the summer, and how our community services are able to help us when we are in
Despite it being middle school, my leadership of the first ever NJHS at Sparta Middle School, taught me valuable things about leading and being part of a club with such prestige. As the inaugural chapter of the society, we ran the student-faculty basketball game, baked cookies for Project Self-Sufficiency, and collected food and then visited a local food bank. I learned how much a group of students could impact the community with their actions, something I had previously thought impossible. I will draw from those experiences when presenting my opinion on new service projects and will also try to introduce successful techniques that I used back during my time spent as President of
The final mast of school and community involvement was catalyzed when I joined Key Club as a freshman. Finding a passion for service and leadership, it rapidly became my primary focus in deepening my high school experience. Key Club inspired me to search for further opportunities for leadership and involvement, leading me to join Student Council, Relay for Life, and so forth. Through my various executive positions, I have not only improved my own character and qualities, but also inspired others around me to do the
Leadership perspectives are very important when making decisions and strategies. A leader that only sees information on one side does not have the grasp on a situation. A leadership perspective such as understanding that there are more than one way to see things and it does not have to be what you see is what you get as a leader. When a leader uses their surrounding and employees the perspective may change and rather than seeing one side they see a variety.
Goal Two: Find staff who are providing exceptional care to patients and publicly recognizing one person per week by placing a note on the staff bulletin board stating who was “Caught Being AWESOME!”.
Our team of school administrators, volunteers, and student ambassadors has been working since May of 2016 to develop ideas for this event. A great deal of thought and planning has gone into the process of organizing our ideas and bringing them to fruition. We decided that
And as I joined our school’s leadership training program, it opened my eyes to a whole new way of learning . In that classroom, I was taught not by reading an article, but through demonstration and experience. This program helped me become a better leader and inspired me to be to be more active in society, standing up if you believe something is wrong.. Through the various community service projects that we do, it helps me understand that even though I might think that my life is difficult at times, others have it worse. I help prepare our school’s annual Honokaa Thanksgiving Dinner that feeds up to 900 people each year. We try to help those who struggle to provide their own meals for the holidays. Our leadership training program also set up our community’s Relay for Life, last year raising $10,000 towards the cause. We also organize and set up our school’s most important events such as Homecoming and Prom which many students create memories that last a

I participate in Student Leadership Team at C-Tec. I volunteered at multiple community events such as our annual open house and our schools’ evening of exploration. One of our most important duties is to host student run tours and other events to peak new students’ interest in attending C-Tec. Without our service younger students would never get to experience the unique qualities of C-Tec. I currently have obtained 25 volunteer
If one has no leadership ability, one cannot be a leader. If one does not make what his or her followers consider the correct decisions to achieve their goals, no one will have faith in the leader's abilities and, consequently, no one will follow and without followers, there can be no leader. Another important criterion which one must have in order to be a leader is a person who leads a crowd in the direction where the goal can be accomplish as well as someone who acknowledges a problem and finds solutions to it.
What defines leadership? There are a number of definitions of the meaning of leadership including but not limited to the theories of leadership and how leadership should work. In my opinion, every individual has different ways of confronting situations and there is not one leadership style or theory that will be flawless for any given situation. However, to be a successful educational leader, it is crucial to understand and be familiar with the various theories and styles of leadership as well as our personal tendencies to nurture a personal leadership style. Despite the method used to confront a situation, it’s the outcome of success that will determine which leadership style or theory should be used. The following
Over the years, a great deal of time, and research has been dedicate to the study of leadership. Even with extensive data on the topic, many still disagree on what leadership really means. Hence, leadership is a word that has many different meanings and different researched theories associated with it. On a basic level, leadership involves having and establishing a clear vision, sharing that vision with followers, respecting followers, and leading an organization with excellence while ensuring that everyone is part of the team. Leadership is also a method by which a leader uses his or her influence towards getting a group of followers to take ownership or buy into a vision.
During the past ten weeks, I have strengthened my concept of what constitutes effective leadership. Importantly, it is a leadership style that maximises the contributions of followers to achieve the desired outcomes for the organisation they represent. As Nanjundeswaraswamy & Swamy (2014, p.57) explains, effective leaders need to balance the drive to achieve a task with managing relationships. Therefore, it is essential for good leadership to not only focus on the task but develop, motivate and empower team members to strive for the achievement of task goals.
Due to my passive nature, I’ve always avoided leadership roles. With that being said I still aspire to be someone who can be looked to as a leader. In order to reach that goal I observe and try to mimic the actions of people that inspire me. There have been many people I’ve taken orders from, but I have “followed” few. Those are the ones I consider to be true leaders, and have tried to be like myself.
Prior to attending the Business Internship course, my knowledge and understanding on successful business leaders was very limited. Although I had heard of countless success stories in business, I had never actually understood what it took to achieve such measures of success. However, it wasn’t until we had the privilege of hearing from four different business magnates in weeks 6 -9. Each of the business leaders gave an hour’s seminar and which was aimed at providing insights into their personal lives, working experiences and the core essence of 21st century business leadership.
In class, so far, we have discussed many different topics about leadership. One being different leadership theories. The one that I feel most represents the leader I want to be in the future is servant leadership. When we discussed servant leadership it was defined as this leadership model is based on the leader and the followers wanting to serve others. Basically, this means the servant leader you put your focus on the needs of others before your own. The followers goal is to serve clients and the leader’s goal is to serve the employee and implement the organization mission statement. The leader supports other employees by noticing their goals and provide the proper support to help them reach those goals. This
