Reflection Paper In Management 3000: Organizational Behavior class thought me a variety of useful tools that I can use in the workplace. I am currently working as a marketing intern in the Small Business Development Center and I am also a sales associate for Express Inc. I have worked at Express for over two years and previously I also worked for a local business in Bakersfield called Bella at the Marketplace, these two places are clothing stores and I learned how different a local small business runs rather than a large company like Express. While being in this management course I realized how important it is for managers to take management classes or training because if not the company will not perform that well. For example, in chapter 9 it talks about communication and how important it is to learn how to communicate with your employees. At Express there is five managers, while being in class and reading the chapter I learned how some of our managers lack communications skills between them and to their associates. It is highly important to have an efficient communication process and make sure to give feedback. An example of poor communication is when Express opened an outlet store in Tejon Ranch. The associates and managers came to train at our Express store location and I feel like both teams had a hard time communicated with each other and it creating problems between both teams. Informal communication is the communication that involves spontaneous interaction between
For the group project our group chose option A, to design and implement a community service project. We chose to help the North Shore Animal League based in Port Washington, New York. We think this is an important charity to help because the organization receives no federal funding and relies solely on donations from the public. North Shore Animal league is one of the largest no-kill shelters and they have saved close to 1 million cats, dogs, kittens and puppies to date.
Establishing a culture that allows the organization to build and achieve its strategic objectives is important. A defined organizational culture provides the ground work for development and strategic planning. This established culture will aid in the planning process. The success of an organization relies on its leadership. A good leader must possess the characteristics to lead the company toward achieving desired strategic goals. A good leader must provide an environment where people want to work, succeed, and stay, however every employee will not remain with the organization. When this occurs top executives must evaluate where the organization stand to obtain a clear insight of its strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement. The organization established peer groups to develop strategies to retain employees. This will provide a realistic view on how to create a plan around the knowledge gained. Employees who use their strengths and talents are less likely to leave the organization at the first sign of trouble. Employees perform best giving the opportunity to utilize their talents to complete daily tasks. Baptist Memorial
The main objective of this semester was to learn various organizational behaviors that are conducted in a business environment outside the classroom; these would help us as students and as future business entrepreneurs. Throughout the semester, every week different professors came and gave us lectures. Each lecture was about different topic with professors of different departments. Along with the weekly lectures we also had an interactive session that gave us the opportunity to apply the lessons and techniques learnt in our professional and personal lives.
Based on the results of the above two assessments, as well as your own knowledge and experience, write a short reflection paper about your real or potential leadership skills and style. Describe your current strengths, your current weaknesses, and the education, training, skills or experience you need to grow as a leader.
The premise that I would agree to is “Why We Have Too Few Women Leaders!” In the Ted Talks video, Sheryl Sandberg speaks of “problems” women in the world are facing (Sandberg, 2017). These “problems” include a woman not making it to the top and women having to choose between professional success and personal fulfillment. I think that it is so wrong that a woman has to choose between having a professional life and a career. A male can have both and there’s never any questions ask, and he’s not frowned upon as if he’s all of a sudden grown two heads. Whenever a woman wants to have both they want to make her feel bad about her decision. Majority of the time she’s going to have a male boss that’s going to
Organizational citizenship behavior is the willingness to work for the good of the organization without the promise of a specific reward. (DuBrin, A.J. 2009.) This essay will examine the effective use of organizational citizenship behavior of two managers from past employment settings. Identified as manager one and manager two, the paper will assess their use of tactics, exchanges with coworkers as well as examine upward, downward, and lateral building of relationships.
I really enjoyed reading your discussion board post. You made some interesting points about leadership. I agree it takes upper management to bring order and plans. The health system I work in is partnered with clinics. The availability of services these clinics offer is great, but the financial side is lacking so much. This is due to upper management not having a complete plan. I believe other management respects the clinic management because of knowledge-based trust (Lesson 6: Leadership, 2016). The clinical side is covered, but the financial side needs improvement. The financial side lacks order and organization. I understand where management in health systems are coming from. Most of the time their background is in the clinical side. To them the
One thing the organization could do to raise the gender consciousness would be to do an ongoing series of sensitivity training for all staff. Along with this training would be annual assessment seminars that will teach people the different types of discrimination and harassment and the steps they need to take when such a situation is posed upon them. In the Cancer center where I am employed, women make up nearly 70% of the managerial and supervisory staff in all departments. At the executive level they only make up
Organizational culture can be defined as a system of shared beliefs and values that develops within an organization and guides the behavior of its members. It includes routine behaviors, norms, dominant values, and a feeling or climate conveyed. The purpose and function of this culture is to help foster internal integration, bring staff members from all levels of the organization much closer together, and enhance their performance.
I have never studied such kind of courses before. My bachelor degree was related more to Law. First what I thought was Organizational Behavior class was something beyond me. In my point of view course was too complicated for me: everything in specific terminology and hard to understand. But after some time I was getting used to everything and even it was very interesting to do all work in group and have discussions on different situations everyone can face in an everyday life. So I completely changed my perception of this course.

Since R.W. Armstrong is a civil engineering firm, it is also affected heavily by political changes within the states that they work in. A change from a Republican Party to Democratic Party could mean projects getting cancelled due to one politician 's view of importance over another 's. Since it is political, a great many of the projects proposed by R.W. Armstrong depend on the states economy another external factor that is hard to manage.
When I attended my first lecture of Principle Management and Leadership my first thoughts on the module was quite positive, I understood why and how this module relates to my current course. This Subject is quite new to me and I hope I gain a deeper understanding to it, so that it could enhance my current skills and possibly gain new ones. My main aim is to understand up to date key theories and concepts which would be relevant to the Travel sector. Points of interest from the lecture (Kanuga, 2017) HEAT stands for Hospitality, Events, Airline, Airport and Tourism. The HEAT industries quite often overlap with each other; this is because certain distinct areas of work which falls more broadly into other industries e.g. Airline companies working alongside tourism organizations to sell package holidays etc., Different industries working alongside each other so that they could provide a high-quality service to wide range of customers.

In class, so far, we have discussed many different topics about leadership. One being different leadership theories. The one that I feel most represents the leader I want to be in the future is servant leadership. When we discussed servant leadership it was defined as this leadership model is based on the leader and the followers wanting to serve others. Basically, this means the servant leader you put your focus on the needs of others before your own. The followers goal is to serve clients and the leader’s goal is to serve the employee and implement the organization mission statement. The leader supports other employees by noticing their goals and provide the proper support to help them reach those goals. This
