Before this class began I was a simple writer who hated having to type an essay. Many class essays that I have wrote in the past resulted in poor scores and no personality. I didn’t have much help on what exactly to write about. As a result of that I have struggled to find creative topics to write about my essay.
At the beginning of this class we wrote the Definition essay. I wrote about what makes a sports movie truly great. This essay was a real grind for me. I had a difficult time trying to think of what I wanted to write the essay about and how to make it interesting. I was able to find 10 sports movies that I thought were really good or really bad, but when I went to write my essay I used the same four movies for all three

This resulted in me creating a long story that contained many sensory details and was able to get a good grade on it. If I could change anything about the essay, I would add even more sensory details and would also add more vocabulary words.
The career and college research essay was the essay I was most interested in. Going into this essay I was fascinated by the career path of a CTO. Profoundly interested in the subject, I did countless hours of research to find out what exactly a CTO is. This essay stood a huge challenge when it came to the personal narrative. Finding a creative idea about what to base my narrative off of became problematic. Time was running low on the essay due date and I had to choose something to write my essay about. At this point my choices were limited and I wrote about my first baseball tryout. This essay was my least favorite one I wrote. When I go over the writing it was not the essay I was most proud of but it did meet all requirements. From the last essay I learned that sensory details are a great way to progress an essay. I learned that sometimes you won’t be able to find inspiration for your essay, but you still need to fight through it and produce a writing piece that meets requirements. If I could change anything about this essay I would add more details and vocabulary to further enhance my writing.
When I think of the essay I felt the most prosperous about, I think of
Writing an essay can be difficult if a person does not know how or where to begin. I personally believe the first step of writing is to list down ideas about the topic. After
English Composition I has developed my style of writing and my skills analyzing and researching topics to write a piece about a topic. Throughout the course, I got better at analyzing articles and pieces to get the meaning of the topic. With that improved skill I was more able to use the information given from the text and install it into my essays, with proper citation if needed. Before taking the English Composition course, I was not one to organize my essays in an ordeal order to clearly state the point of the work. Now with taking the course, I have learned to organize my essays, examine research for a topic, and develop an essay with proper mechanics, and revising skills. In writing my personal, review, analytical, and cultural
While attending writing class, I learned about the 4 steps in writing, bases for revising, organizing, and connecting specific information, and I also learned about the different types of essays such as descriptive, narrative, process, cause and effect and argumentative essay. I have been a student at Milwaukee Area Technical College for 1 semester, and over the course of my enrollment I have grown and learned more that I knew prior to attending this writing course. Participating in this writing class has taught me so much more than stuff about literature and language, it has taught me another way of expressing myself. I have learned here how to write and express myself, how to think for myself, and how to find the answers to the things that I don 't know. Most importantly I have learned how important technique, outlines and organization are. My goal in this paper is to inform writers about how my writing skills have improved.
For me, writing this essay was difficult — I had to find my passion, or something I am passionate about, at least. And I had never really given this much thought. Even though I am in a high school, where the primary goal is to get you to find what you care about, I had yet to have that moment of realization. All I’ve been doing is drifting through high school, passing all my classes, with no predilection for any particular subject.
All of these things - diction, details, language, syntax - must be woven seamlessly together to create a sound essay. That is hard work, hard work that I did not want to do. I love writing, but I struggled more than I thought I would and feared that my lack of creativity would write the essay instead of granting me control. But before I could take control of actually writing, I needed to decide what to write about.
The writing of my college essay was quite a process. Normally for me writing comes rather easy, I do not struggle putting my ideas on paper. At first I thought that this essay would be simple to do and not be very stressful. It turned out to be quite the opposite in fact, just brainstorming was a struggle for me. It was difficult for me to think about my life and how it is special. To me, the events that have shaped me do not seem that relevant, at 18 I had never really payed much attention to how certain things affected me, I just lived my life. eventually , with the help of Mary, I came to the realization that having my summer taken away from me due to a broken foot had really changed my life philosophy, it truly changed who I was and my outlook on life.
Writing an essay may seem like a huge obstacle to overcome, but with a plan of attack and a little organization, it can be easily completed. All it takes is seven easy steps.
Brief description of essay topic. Don’t go into too much detail, but try to write a description that’s more than three words long.
I see that writing an essay is like telling your audience a story that you have created yourself. The story could either be about me struggling in being accepted in Valdosta State University, or how Immokalee High school, which is the high school I had attended, began as an educational institution. The paper I typed up in high school were mostly looking up information about a historical event. For example, how Christopher Columbus had discovered America and how he was a terrible person in general. Outside the textbook and writing class, I had written multiple stories about my life and my feelings towards people. These types of stories I had written were very personal. When creating them, I started pouring my emotions into an electronic device.
My essay is about the time I tried football. My mom's friend wanted me to do football because her son was. I declined her offer many times, but I finally said yes. My mom said I could try it once and see if I liked and if I did not I could quit. She ended up lying to me! I got over it tho.

Laura Bobnak’s essay started out to be a lot shorter than what you would actually consider to be an essay. In here first essay she completed she lacked having a thesis, when you read her essay you didn’t have a clear understanding of what was going on. Lastly, her conclusion in the first essay did not wrap things up as well as they should have. Going on to the second draft the coherence of the essay grew greatly. Adding more detail, writing about how it really made her feel, and if she could go back and change her mind would she talk to the teacher about Jeff; the man who was cheating off of her, really allowed for more detail to the essay. Final draft of her essay she presents coherence, has a thesis statement, flows smoothly, and also includes
The third essay that was written was a critical argument. This assignment required me to choose two articles from the school library and write an essay stating my opinion on a particular subject. The topic I chose was medical marijuana. This topic was interesting to me, so it made the assignment fun. On this essay I had fewer mistakes than in previous essays. I continued to struggle with APA citation and the use of commas. When I looked at the feedback from this essay, it gave me confidence. I felt that I was learning and my writing skills were improving.
Since the beginning of the semester, my writing has changed and evolved to accommodate and sustain longer essays. With longer essays, there is more room for in-depth analysis. Further analyzing a topic has led me to findings that I did not know existed. As I continue to write, I uncover addition and superior methods to approach my writing to the benefit of me and therefore, my audience. Throughout the semester, I have incorporated techniques to further my narrative throughout my writing.
