The most vivid memory I recall is of the first trip I ever made to my happy place, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Nothing could ever compare to those 5 days of pure happiness, without a single worry in the world. I truly believe this one little trip shaped the way I want to live the rest of my life.

Today is the first day that I set foot into Central High School, one of the most prestigious high schools in Philadelphia. The blood rushes through my veins as I allow that fact to sink in. I climb up the steep hill, focused solely on trying to make my way to the deep red doors as other students, one by one, join their respective social groups.

In a discussion in class, we talked about how we would investigate why certain groups of people or located in certain sections of the city. As a class we made city maps, my map shared many sections of the city. However, what I noticed is that my map was empty in certain places that I do not identify with. One section in particular was South Philadelphia, as Italian and Irish people mainly live there. I hardly visit that part of the city and had my first steak this year. This intrigued my interest to investigate Italians in Philadelphia. I will investigate the history of how the Italian immigrants made it to my city.

As said before, our friends can cause us to make some excruciatingly good choices. From emotional support to pure appreciation and love, friends are often there when we need them most. The movie, Philadelphia, was an excellent example of the severe discrimination many people with Aids are exposed to. In this instance the main character, Andy, was also gay. Unfortunately, in our society, he was faced with a double whammy. The gay issue is controversial enough, but to compound that in the work force with having Aids would be almost unbearable for any person to cope with. Tom Hanks played Andy with a serious need to communicate to the viewers how everyday life, work, emotions and mental well being are affected by this kind of situation. The story is set in a suburban town in Northeastern Pennsylvania around May 7, 2004. It seems to have a central area full of various stores. Some people chose to live in that area. People also chose to live in suburbs like Miranda’s family. It’s worthwhile to point out that the people living in the suburbs were better off because they had less contact with the sick.
