Registered Nurse A registered nurse (RN) in mental health is called a psychiatric. They work in the psychiatric part of a hospital or medical center with patients that are staying there for short-term-evaluation or an intense treatment before going back to their home for long-term-care. Some of the skills required are effective communication so that if their patient is uncomfortable they can help them, flexibility so that is something goes wrong they can be fast and identify the problem, critical thinking so they can figure out what is wrong with a patient, desire to learn so they will not do their job half way and will do their job 100 percent, needs to pay attention to little details so if something goes wrong they can see all of the little things that could have caused it, calm so if there is a very stressful situation going on they will not mess it up, smart because if you have a really bad germ or virus in you but they do not identify it you could be in a lot of danger, they need to have a high patience level so if something does not go your way you never give up, kind and compassionate so the patient will accept you for helping them, and responsible so they will take care of people and own up to their mistakes. A registered nurse can be found in any city. Sometimes they will travel all over the world! They usually work inside. Another benefit is that you can also leave work sick. If you get sick you can leave and you do not have to finish your shift. They get free lab work, which means that they can go to a doctor's appointment and not pay anything. The last benefit is that the job they have can be very interesting. Another drawback is that some things you will do will be very stressful. You also might see really bad situations. I think the biggest drawback in being a registered nurse is that some people refuse and not appreciate your help and hard work with them. After all of your hard work and effort, some people do not appreciate you. They do not want your help or guidance; that is one reason why registered nurses must have a very high patience
