The participation in these events and overall repetition enforces the religious content and provides an optimistic vision of existence and eventual transcendence for the participant. It provides a break from a temporal and profane duration of time and into a sacred time of importance and meaning for a religion and its followers.

Rituals and rites are required in almost all religions because they hold meanings spiritually and emotionally. Reaffirming faith and practicing traditions are important parts of adherents' personal and religious life. Christian sacrament and Jewish rituals are derived from their religious stories and histories that represent symbolic stories of the origin and their sacred destiny (Esposito, 18) yet Judaism hold means of obedience to and gratitude for God, whereas Christianity is accepts "divine grace or aid through the incarnation of God" (Esposito, 23). Christians and Jews have religious expressions that have a beginning and an end (Esposito, 22) which corresponds with their rituals and rites providing the "assistance through every stage of life, from birth to death" (Esposito, 180).

Within many known religions, the devotional practices has been known to acquire great importance. The essence of practicing what you preach has scolded many religious groups, introducing true beliefs, righteousness, and a wider connection to the supreme being . In the book entitled “ Living religions” by Mary Pat Fisher, clarified and firm descriptions were introduced about religious rituals. Surprisingly; the author utilized small parts of modern concepts, limiting the reader from a full comprehension of religious practices today, therefore; I will only discuss the basic and traditional rituals. To elaborate; in this paper, I will be providing an opinionated but also, comparative description of the major practices and rituals that undergo in both the Abrahamic and indigenous religions.

Dia De Los Reyes is a Spanish name of the Christian holiday of Epiphany. Across Latin America and in Spain, this day is known as “Three Kings Day” as well as “Day of the Wise Men.” This holiday marks the end of the merry Christmas season, which started on December 16 with the holiday of Posadas. Depending on a tradition or a country, this holiday is celebrated either on January 6 or January 7. Also, across the countries it has different names: in some countries it is known as Los Reyes Magos, in others it is known as El Dia De Reyes, etc. This paper looks into how this holiday is celebrated in Spanish-speaking communities both in Latin America and in the Unites States.

I analyzed the data using the constant comparative method as found within the field of sociology. The constant comparative method consists of analyzing a single interview for themes, then using these themes to analyze the remaining interviews (Boeije 2002). The interviews are also analyzed against themselves to discover new themes and alter the beginning themes. In addition, the interview data will be compared between the gender of the interviewees, the roles of the interviewees, and the phase during which they were interviewed. The observation data is analyzed in a similar manner, however instead of comparing interviews the different observation sessions will be compared to first the initial observation session and then between days of the week and time of the day.

The church ministers to everyone of any race and age. To put faith into practice one needs to do service. Giving puts the word of God into action. I.1. Background: I serve as a pastoral intern at the Vineyard Christian church of Evanston. This marks my second year of internship at this church. I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience of becoming familiar with the culture of a non-denominational setting of the church. The Evanston Vineyard comprises of 57 nations of the world. The church is not only unique because of this particular diversity but also because of the Spanish speaking congregation that gathers together in the LaVina auditorium, every Sunday, in one of the auditoriums in the same building of this church.

Furthermore, in my reflective journal, I have reflected on a world of possibilities of what religion means to me. Throughout the year, my opinions on certain topics has changed, or has strengthen and I feel the reflective journal has helped me.
