Gout is associated with a host of health conditions and diseases. Majority of patients have at least one associated health condition and disease. The most common one are obesity, high blood pressure, kidney disease and heart disease.

Obesity is a condition that exists when a person carries extra body fat that is severely out of proportion to his or her height. Gout is highly common in obese people. Research shows that a large percentage of gout patients are overweight. Weight gain plays a role in the development of gout. An obese person is four times more likely to develop gout compared to someone with a normal body weight.
