In the Inaugural Address made by Donald Trump on January 20, 2017, he talks about his plans for being the President of the United States. Being our current president, everything Donald Trump does or says is on the minds of the citizens. This is also very important because Donald Trump was able to win his way through a presidential election, even though he was more known for his business skills rather than his political skills. Donald Trump wrote this piece to connect with everyone in the United States and explain how he will fix all of America’s problems and “Make America Great Again.” In order to talk about how it will always be America first from now on, connect with the American people, and explain how America will now take action to …show more content…
By stating, “When America is united, America is totally unstoppable,” Trump is able to show a tone that speaks for all and create trust between him and the American people. This tone that speaks for all allows listeners to understand that Trump doesn’t feel he is any better than the American people, even though he just became our president. This also shows once again why Trump is just your regular businessman as he uses the average man vocabulary. Then, Trump uses repetition constantly throughout his speech in order to show America that “we” as people are in this together: “We will fight, build, follow, reinforce, etc…” This allows Trump’s listeners to feel more of a connection, since he never talks down on them and reminds us that all people are equal no matter what class you may actually be in. In order to explain how America will now take action to fix their problems, Trump uses strong word choice. For example, Trump claims it begins with “action” and then continues with “thinking big and dreaming even bigger.” This reaffirms how Trump feels it starts with having a growth mindset rather than a fixed mindset and the ability to trust others, in order to fix the various problems “we” face. By stating, “We will no longer accept politicians who are all talk and no action -- constantly complaining but never doing anything about it,” Trump is able to show the American people that he isn’t going to be like past politicians, instead he is going to find the various problems we
Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign has come at a time after having a president serve for two terms. Americans are eager for change. Donald Trump promises to be the change to fix the nation’s concerns about foreign affairs, and immigration
America, along with its commitments, needs to “stand behind [its] word, and make sure [that the] word stands up” (Trump 138). This means that we need to take back control and never step back. Compromises should be kept to a minimum, and strong leaders need to take control in Washington (Trump 139). These leaders can be attracted by creating an exciting atmosphere for them to work in, as opposed to a failing government which only a bare minimum of Americans have the heart to try to fix (Trump 140). America needs to increase its power, successfully, military-wise (Trump 137) and financially. This will allow the country to start winning all the time by continually starting at the top of every race, and will force other countries to see it as a serious and strong national
After addressing the nation and thanking the world, President Trump stated, “we, the citizens of America, are joined in a national effort to rebuild our country and restore its promise to all its people,” he continued, “we will face challenges and confront hardships, but we will get the job done (Trump).” The point was made very clear that President Trump’s primary objective was to give America back to the people of this great nation and beginning to put
President Donald Trump addresses the American people by assuring them that after many years of having the nation’s Capital (Washington D.C) controlling the people, the people are now in charge. The power that got taken away from the American public by previous administrators will be returned to them. He also speaks about a broken America and how he plans to repair it . He addresses issues from the education system, businesses, poverty and jobs. Additionally, he talks about how America has helped other foreign industries become richer, while the American industry has fallen apart. Because of that he believes that it is time to focus on America, “From this day forward, a new vision will govern our land. From this moment on, it’s going to be America first.” He wants America to be “great again” before
“I 'm here today to introduce the man who will be my partner in this campaign and White House,” Trump said, beginning his remarks to a small crowd of New York supporters in the Hilton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan. “I found the leader that will help us deliver a safe society and a prosperous society, a really prosperous society, for all Americans.”
Finally, Trump uses multiple metaphors to make very specific points. Trump says, “We are one nation and their pain is our pain. Their dreams are our dreams; and their success will be our success. We share one heart, one home, and one glorious destiny”. As a result, Trump is trying to unify the nation. In a time where the nation feels divided and political parties cannot seem to agree with each other it is important to remind Americans that the country beats with the same heart. Therefore, this statement is meant to leave the nation feeling inspired to work together to face what is yet to come (Trump Inauguration Speech, 2017).
Another way that Donald Trump gets his message across is his word choice, also known as diction. One prominent example of his effective word choice is lines 19-20 where announces “That all changes -- starting right here, and right now, because this moment is your moment: it belongs to you”. Trump uses words that convey his message and promise of bringing the power of government and change back to the people. He says “This is your moment: it belongs to you” to show how he thinks of the people first and believes all the success is rewarded to the them, instead of to himself.
In the article, “American Carnage and America First: The Inauguration of Donald Trump”, Doug Schoen, a notable political strategist, argues that despite the opposition that President Trump has received in the 2016 Election thought the media, his focus now is to place the control of the government in the hands of the American people. According to the article, President Trump believes that if we are able to encourage people, regardless of their political views or parties, to work together for the better benefit of our country we can reach the vision of “Making America Great Again”. However, the transition of the presidency from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party, the vision President Trump now has for our country, and the opposition
I think that this speech was very interesting, and I, as many others were shocked about his approach. For the first time in a long time, he was talking about “we” and not “I”. I believe this is important because I think it takes more than one man to solve all the problems. If we work together and help each other, things will be more easily solved, and probably also faster. trump talked about rebirth, common goods, and hope, and I believe that all of these factors are important for today`s world, and not only the U.S`s future but the world`s
Trumps speech has sparked controversy on whether he is fit to be president. Trump’s Inaugural Address conveys a negative tone of fear, making clear that freedom and justice are not his concern because his speech portrayed darkness, included a significant amount of bashing, and did not mention significant topics in his speech.
On top of that big fat slab of equality and togetherness, President Obama also begins to usher in a sense of endless possibilities and hope through the audience. He juxtaposes the “ending of war” to the beginning of economic recovery (Isn’t that a lie in the state we’re in?). This solidifies hope and the use parallelism, “ we are made for this moment, and we will seize it – so long as we seize it together". He begins again, this time using a parallelism that is used throughout the rest of the speech, “we, the people,” to even further establish togetherness and also builds Obama’s presidential
Trump uses satisfaction by saying, “I’m going to make America great again.” Followed by, “It’s going to take bold action to turn things around.” Trump is saying that he’ll make some changes.
The 45th president of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump. Trump’s platform is based on the two nationalistic concepts: “Make America Great Again” and “America First.” These concepts have encapsulated Trump’s run for presidency, his current term, and his policy. The concept of “Making America Great Again” taps into white people's belief of an white Christian country and their fear of immigration. Additionally, Trump’s comments of Mexicans being drug dealers, rapist, and criminals helps to exacerbate the issue and make White America fearful of being overrun by immigrants that are taking jobs away from hard working tax paying American system. This shown through Trump’s Muslim ban and his decision to reverse Obama’s 2012 executive DACA. DACA essentially protects thousands of young immigrants brought to the United States illegally as children and allows them to remain in the country without constant fear of deportation. Essentially, the slogan “Make America Great Again” talks about returning America to it’s former glory and putting American citizens, especially America's white citizens, first. And, this concept of “America First” is displayed on whitehouse.gov for Donald Trump reads “America First Energy plan” and “America First Foreign Policy.” Both of the plans essentially puts America’s need and American citizens front and furthermost before entering any agreement. This idea can be explained in Trump’s decision to withdraw from Paris environment agreement unless it the agreement is better for American businesses and taxpayers. While Trump’s nationalistic approach helped him win the election, as policy it essentially serves to cut America away from other countries and turn inward if we now as a country refuse to work with
On the 28th of February 2017 Donald trump held his first speech to the congress of the United States of America. According to an article on CNN politics, the goal of his speech was to “stabilize his administration after a tumultuous five weeks in office“1. The following analysis focuses on his statements that give more insight on his notion of patriotism.
From the context of the speech, President Trump anticipated that the middle-class citizens of America would reason with him the most, being the targeting audience. The rest of the country, as well as other first-world nations, were intended to be the secondary audience. With this in mind, President Trump knows that he has already won the middle-class as a leader, now he aims to prove to these hard-working individuals that he will be everything they want in a president and more. The speech starts off by talking negatively towards the current situation in America, discussing issues like poverty and a failing education system. Trump makes sure to talk down on the current state of America so that his audience will feel more inclined to favor his choices that he promises to bring, which is what he then begins to talk about.
