Roger Waters is, in my opinion, the greatest English songwriter and musical artist of all time. If you don’t know who Waters is, he is the main lyricist and singer of the popular psychedelic rock band Pink Floyd. The meanings in the poem like lyrics impact, or impacted, the lives of many people including myself. The flow and general feel of the music seems to relax the brain, at least from my experience. The hidden stories to his music is incredible as well as the phrasing and use of his language, although there are some bad things about his music. The moving stories hidden within the lyrics of his music, and songs of his albums are a great part of the Waters experience. In the play-like album The Wall (1979) it slowly explains the life of an overprotected boy named Pink. It goes through his life of how his father died in World War II, and his eventual wall casting him from society and normal life. The album shows personal isolation, neglect, and use of drugs throughout the ninety minutes it takes to listen to it. The most popular album made by Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon (1973), which sold over seventy-million copies has a story, but not one within the album. The story to pay attention to is a movie, The Wizard of Oz (1939). If you …show more content…
The words allow the songs to flow together with each other in a better way. They allow the listener to better understand what is happening, without getting too confused. They address issues in this cruel world allowing people to understand why things are the way they are in a way. The rhymes, similes, and metaphors also help the music fit together better. Consistency is a reason why these aspects of writing are important. With consistency, people stay, and listen. The music and mind of Waters is truly genius. The countless great things about Roger Waters is great, but there are some bad things about his
Pink Floyd's The Wall is one of the most successful albums in rock history, topping the United States album chart for fifteen weeks in 1980 and spanning off the hit single "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)", which remained at No. 1 on the United States
Pink Floyd struggled as an ensemble with ideas for a new album that would follow up the high success of the album The Dark Side of The Moon. Roger Waters once stated that the band put themselves under a “ridiculous pressure, in a way, trying to make a record from nothing.” The
The way the poet used powerful word choices and emotion to show how he felt throughout the poem In the beginning of the poem it starts off sad but by the end of the poem it shows a side of anger. I thought the poem was very strong and powerful because of the personification he used. I think his poem was powerful because it felt personal and something relatable in his life. Throughout the poem the poet seemed like he was talking about someone in his life such as his partner. I think if the poet did not seem like he was talking to a partner then it would not be as straightforward as it was. Since he used personification throughout the poem it made me as a reader to be able to connect with what the poet and it made it feel more personal. I really liked the word choice the poet used throughout the poem. Some of the words stood out to me more than others. One word that really stood out to me when reading this poem was the word “shit.” While most poets do not use profanity, it helped show how he was feeling and the emotions he was using at that time. I think this poet was speaking from his life experience and wanted to show the emotions he was feeling when this was happening. I think people write poetry for an act of self-expression. I believe when a poet writes a poem that they are trying to write about a personal experience in their life. Also, a poem can be emotional and creative with only a
In today's modern world, the use of poetry to communicate and express oneself has become quite rare. One of the main reasons is due to the fact that with such an old style of writing, it is very often hard to understand properly. poetry is indeed difficult to read and hard to understand, but given time, it is a rewarding challenge. Poetry is not only written verse but is used in songs as well. Taken the time to listen to the words of modern songs, you will realise that the lyrics of the song are actually a poem linking modern day music to poetry.

William Wells Brown was born a slave but died a free man. He wrote an autobiography about his life as a slave. He went into detail of how he and others were treated so cruelly. His master had owned forty slaves, they lived on a rather large plantation and their main production was of hemp and tobacco. This plantation was located some forty odd miles from St. Charles, Missouri. The master had no family but kept a female slave in the house with him to oversee the plantation. Every morning at four, a bell would sound, this was the signal to get up, eat and get to work. If any slave was late to the fields they would immediately receive ten lashes from the negro-whip. Brown was not a field slave so he had only heard and witnessed from a distance of this lashing. He

Rogers mother’s one condition about this trip was that he wore a life jacket because roger did not know how to swim. In not long roger would be falling down the falls. The day was perfect for boating it was warm and the waters were calm. The owner of the boat jim honeycutt let roger steer the boat. They were heading toward sandbar and on the way there the mortar of the boat hit a rock. Honeycutt cut the engine after hitting the rock. They were drifting toward the falls. For some reason Honeycutt had no anchor so he was trying to paddle the other way but the

In poems it is essential to be a creative writer. From exposing deep thoughts to giving humorous jokes throughout the sentence. As a Human being, we may have difficult times in understanding what is trying to be said. We may agree or disagree depending our viewpoints on life. One of my Favorite poems is “The Ballad of Sue Ellen Westerfield” By Robert Hayden. The type of poem that has some history and confusion. When getting the audience confused, it makes them want to know more and reread the whole passage again. Robert’s poem was a fresh new opening that brought an old dimension, his creativity to open the minds of others and look back to the past.
The reasoning of why I chose this poem, considering that it falls in the category of all living organisms. It’s that our own selves come with a deadline, but the world we live in keeps revolving. In my eyes, it signifies that no one person is greater than the other as each one of us are alike. This poem caught my interest with all images shown from the text. It certainly makes me feel all of what the author is attempting to visibly demonstrate. This poem displays what occurs in everyday life as one goes away the world keeps moving, further new forms of life make it back. The Tide Rises, The Tide falls, it's a wonderful poem that explains nature. It relates to our world in the sense of all living organisms, being replaced, our world keeps moving forward.
On March 1, 1973, Pink Floyd released what some consider their best and most famous album, “The Dark Side of the Moon.” The album holds the record for time spent on the Billboard Top 200 albums with a total of 861 non-successive weeks, (Billboard) and included prominent songs such as “Time,” “Money,” and “The Great Gig in the Sky.” It is characterized by the cover, which shows a prism separating a stand of light into a rainbow over a black background. When the album was released, the image’s success impacted it by gaining the attention and support of a broader audience. In the recent year of 2011, the album cover proved itself once more when it was ranked the number two album cover of all time by the readers of “Rolling Stone.” (Greene)
