With Ruby going to a white school it has affected her family. Her father was let go from his job even though he was the best mechanic there. Her mother was not allowed to shop at a store because her daughter was going to a white school. Rubies grandparents had to leave their farm because Ruby was causing so much trouble. All in all, with Ruby going to a white school it was
She had to endure people’s prejudice against Jews, working in her family’s store, and sexual abuse from her father. There was no family life for the Shilsky’s, just working in the store. During that time, she was ashamed because they were poor, Jewish, and her mom was handicapped (from the polio she had). Of course, this would change during her time in Suffolk, but only her family’s economic status would change. As she said, “[…] had plenty of money and we were all miserable” (61). Her older brother Sam, couldn’t take all the pressure and ran away from home and later died in WW2 in a plane crash. Luckily, Ruth did have one friend. Her name was Frances and Ruth was always welcome at Frances’ house. She didn’t care that Ruth was Jewish and with Frances around, Ruth wasn’t bullied (it was a different story when Frances wasn’t there). Ruth soon sets the reader up for what happens next by telling the audience “If there was one thing Tateh didn’t like more than gentiles it was black folks” (107), with Tateh being Ruth’s father. Then she talks about how her first boyfriend was a black teen named Peter and a few pages after introducing that, Ruth tells the reader that she was pregnant. What made it worse was that she was 15 and that she lived in the South where if a black person even looked at a white person the wrong way, there was going to be
First, six year old Ruby is ostracized, or rejected, by angry white people, including teachers and administrators. When Rosa returned to America and found out her husband’s plan, she declared her refusal going against Santino. This shows a major change in Rosa because he was someone she was most afraid of, and allowed him to control her till she took this stand. Though taking his threats seriously she takes the kids and moves to Chicago. This also reveals the changes in Rosa because she is willing to be on her own in a brand new place. While in Chicago she divorces Santino and eventually remarries Gionin. Though Gionin is a good man he leaves Rosa briefly fearing religious persecution. When recounting this she didn’t panic and managed on her own without him. Rosa also learns to be more wary of strangers. When she first arrived in America a man conned her out of her money because she was more naive then. A man approaches her asking for the ten dollars for her husband to buy the horse he had previously mentioned to Rosa but instead of handing over the money she pretends to not have it. Later when she brings it up with Giornin they found out it was a scam and that Rosa acted smart in suspecting something. From the time Rosa came to the United States till her life in Chicago, she has struggled, but instead of breaking down she continued working harder.
Ruby’s later years were eventful and sad. On one hand Ruby created her own foundation, went on the Oprah show, shared her story, but on the other hand Ruby’s brothers died, one in 1993 and the other one in 1995 (“Ruby Bridges”). Ruby reunited with her first grade teacher on the Oprah show (“Ruby Bridges”). After Ruby’s first brother died in 1993 her second brother died these years were filled with sadness for Ruby (“Ruby Bridges”). The white mob eventually went back to their own lives instead of criticizing a little girl. Some parents even allowed their children to attend William Frantz the following year! Ruby stayed at William Frantz and graduated from grade school. “But when I went back to school in September, everything was different. There were no marshals, no protestors. There were other kids - even some other black students...It was almost as if that first year of school integration had never happened. No one talked about it. Everyone seemed to have put that difficult time behind them.” (Ruby

Imagine a workers boss getting paid from his or her success while the worker gets nothing in return. If you have not realized already that is a pretty basic definition of a pimp and that is exactly what the NCAA does to their athletes (Latham). The NCAA should pay their college athletes for their hard work.

The story develops two old college friends gathering for a chat, in a week afternoon, talking for hours straight. During this period there is abusive alcohol consumption, a robust evidence of personal problems. The conversation evolves around gossip and complains. It is Eloise, the protagonist, who complains the most throughout the whole story, and about every aspect of her current life. Including her own daughter, which until that moment she barely considers as her descendent: “I need a cocker spaniel or something” (24). Even though the text only brings up the distinct appearances between them, Eloise believes Ramona is so far apart from her that anything would be closer to her – even a dog.
