The saint I chose to write a biography on was Saint Joan of Arc or Sainte Jeanne d’Arc in French. She was a French saint who saved France from England and Burgundians during the Hundred Years War (insert citation). I chose her because she demonstrated many characteristics and her story is very unique. She lost her life at a very young age and was only canonized as a saint, hundreds of years after her death. She believed in God so much that it helped her achieve her destiny. She was born as a peasant girl in 1412 in the small village of Domrémy (insert citation). Her father was a tenant farmer and both her parents were very religious (insert citation). She was not taught to read or write yet she received a deep love and interest for Catholic
I chose to write about St. Elizabeth Ann Seton because I have always loved her very caring, loving, and kind spirit. I also, chose her because my middle name and confirmation name is Elizabeth and I have always felt a connection to her.
When faced with choosing a saint name, the amount of options to choose from were overwhelming. To narrow it down a bit, I went to several family members to see what they had chosen. However, I decided I didn’t want to use a name just because of the way it sounds, rather what the saint stood for. This is why I was immediately drawn to Saint Clare of Assisi. Not only is it the name of my grandmother, but she inspires me to live my life in a simple manner.
She inspires me because she had the courage to choose her own path and become Christian, at the age of 63, after her divorce with the Roman Emperor. She converted at the time when her son, Constantine, made Christianity the official Religion of Rome.
Joan of Arc showed her caring nature even at a young age and this helped her strong influence over the culture of her time. Joan was born in Domremy, France in 1412 with the given name of Jeanne D’Arc. This is where her common nickname Joan of Arc came from. Domremy was located in the Champagne district of northeastern France and was the last town that remained loyal to Charles VII, the heir to the throne of France (DISCovering Biographies). Joan, the daughter of Jacques D’Arc and Ysabeau (Isabelle) Romee, grew up on her father’s farm always working in the fields (Bellitto). She was responsible for herding sheep and cattle and working in the fields during the harvest season. Joan never attended school and never learned to read or write. She spent most of her time at the church or praying to the statues that surrounded it. Her religious affiliation came from her mother’s strong Catholic faith
Joan of Arc was born in 1412 in Domrémy, France, to a poverty-stricken family. Life for her family was challenging, Joan never even got a proper education, but her mother still made sure to instill a love for Catholicism in her. During this time, there was a large conflict between France and England, now known as the Hundred Years’ War. When Joan was 13, the Anglo-Burgundians, from England, invaded her village and forced her family, and several other families to leave. At that time, she began to hear voices that she supposed were sent from God. She believed these
The saint I chose for my project is Saint Cecilia. I chose this Saint because she is the Saint of Music and at my school I play an instrument. No one knows exactly when Saint Cecilia was born but people believe she died around 117 A.D (After Death). Saint Cecilia's body was discovered incorrupt in 1599, she is known for being the first incorrupt saint. She was Married to a man named Valerian, but she still wanted to stay a virgin. Valerian was not a Catholic.
I chose St. Bernadette because I felt like she did a lot for the Catholic community. She helped the people in her town have faith that God is real. When i was searching for a saint to do this project on, i saw that St. Bernadette was the patron saint of the Catholic Church. She was canonized in 1933. I believe that Bernadette was a very special saint because Mary picked her for a reason. Mary saw potential in her and knew that she would do great things for the
A ghoul remembers her first meal. If I were one of these flesh-eating creatures, my name would be Joan of Arc. She was a very intriguing person and she always entertained me. Joan of Arc was alive from 1412 - 1431. She is considered French heroine and a Roman Catholic saint. Her body was perfect for a ghoul because it had been covered with armor. She was very young, and none of the internal organs were damaged. Her skin was very pale and perfect to cut into to get into the flesh. Legend says that she was born to be a national triumph and she was. Everyone believed that God had chosen her to lead France into victory. After seeing the prince crowned King Charles VII, Joan was captured by Anglo-Burgundian forces, tried for witchcraft and
When things or people are different from mainstream expectations, they are “the other” because they do not conform in ways that are conventional. In Jeanne D’Arc, Maid of Orleans: Deliverer Of France and Joan’s Letter to the English, Poitiers, 22 March 1429, we discover a Joan of Arc that is gender fluid in language, physical strength as well as appearance, and also one who engages in divine transgressive sexuality. However, although Christine de Pisan, in her “Ditié De Johanne de Arc,” tries to normalize the Maid, she is Othered to the point that her society has to exorcise her from the body politic.
St.Catherine is one of the most interesting saints I've ever studied because she pursed the study of fine arts and literature. While in her studies she prayed to Jesus for help on difficult tasks that she was assigned she believed that no matter what task came her way God would be able to help her with it.She’s known for her literature studies and notes as well as painting the entire monastery depicting the events in the bible throughout history.Saint Catherine of Bologna was an Italian nun, artist and saint.
Catherine lived a very interesting childhood. She was “born as Catherine de’ Vigri on September 8th, 1413 in Bologna, Italy” (Catholic Online 1). She grew up with an artistic background. When Catherine was a young child, girls had to have a good education in painting, music, dancing, and reading (St. Catherine of Bologna, Patron Saint of the
I chose St. Angela Merici. St. Angela Merici is the patron saint of the disabled and physically challenged. I chose St. Angela Merici because she saw that girls were unable to get a proper academic education or an education in the Christian faith, and she then decided to help young girls get the education they needed. Education is very important to me just like it was important to St. Angela Merici. I was inspired by the way St. Angela Merici saw the problem of improper education and fixed it. She was also dedicated to prayer which I believe is an important quality.
I chose Saint Thérèse because she inspires me in that she was able to find ways to make a difference and offer it up to God in every way she could. Though she didn't do anything major for the world, she is an excellent example of strong faith because she held on to her faith to make every sacrifice, even through her painful illness. I also struggle with a heated temper much like she did, and she conquered hers with the help of diligent prayer. I am thrilled to have Saint Thérèse of Lisieux as my patron because she did acts great and small to help those around her and offer up to
I have chosen St. Catherine of Siena as my patron saint for Confirmation. Saint Catherine of Siena was an influential woman of the Church, one who was strong in her faith and well respected by the Pope. Catherine was born
The saint I have chosen is Madeleine Sophie Barat. Madeleine Sophie Barat was born on December 12, 1779 in Joigny, France. Madeleine Sophie founded the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1800. Her and a few other women opened a convent with the main purpose of educating young girls. In 1802 she made her vows and became a nun. Madeleine Sophie Barat’s feast day is celebrated on May 25. She is the patron saint of school girls. Madeleine Sophie followed God’s will by opening the Society of the Sacred Heart to educate girls. Mother Barat opened all girls schools even though at the time many girls were not allowed to be educated. My saint is like Jesus because she wanted to spread the word of God to everyone and gained followers to help with her mission.
