Saint Stephen is traditionally venerated as the very first martyr of Christianity. He was a deacon towards the beginning of the early church in Jerusalem and not much else is known about his life previous to becoming a deacon. The only primary source that contains information pertaining to St. Stephan is found in the New Testament within the acts of the apostles. It is stated in acts six that Stephen is one of the Greek speaking Hellenistic Jews chosen to participate in a fair distribution of welfare to Greek speaking widows.During St. Stephan’s time there were many dangers for Christians, some of which include crucifixion, stoning, and impalement.
The main event that led to Stephen's martyrdom is he made a speech denouncing Jewish authorities who were passing judgment on him and was then stoned to death. However, before that he had made several members of various synagogues mad because of his teachings. For those who witnessed this event it had strengthened their faith because this was first person who had died for Christianity and many more follow him even to this day by laying down their lives for their faith. It is not specifically said when he was canonized as a saint. Nevertheless, he is venerated as a saint in the Catholic, Anglican, Lutheran, Oriental Orthodox, Eastern Orthodox churches, and the Church

When I was told to choose a saint to be my patron saint for Confirmation, I thought the choice was obvious for me. It took me just a few moments and one quick touch to my neck to remember my patron saint, Saint Sebastian. I have a medal that I wear every time I leave the house with a picture of Saint Sebastian that says “Saint Sebastian Pray For Us.” I was given this medal when I was very young.
St.Michael the Archangel actually helps people so much even some people today. St.Michael helps people find the courage to face danger and carry on (St.Michael the archangel 12). St.Michael helps/affects people today because he has a prayer which helps and makes people feel stronger every time they pray it (Saint Michael Center 4). People who face danger every day working to protect us find that St.Michael’s medal fortifies their faith and reinforces their commitment to the protection for others (St.Michael the Archangel 12). The Archangel St.Michael is the patron saint of the warrior, who catholics have designated as the protector of those who strive to preserve security, safety, and peace (St.Michael the archangel 1). As such members of
St Paul's greatest achievements and contributions are the three long missionary journeys throughout the Roman empire, Building churches, preaching the gospel and encouraging and supporting early Christians. His first missionary journey was his shortest in time and distance. He was accompanied by Barnabas. This journey ended when Paul went back to Jerusalem for the Council. During that time he was already working with Gentiles and was convinced that all, Jews and Gentiles, should hear about Jesus. He strongly argued for this position at the Council of Jerusalem. On his second missionary journey, he travelled with Silas. They spent a lot of time in Athens and Corinth, the two major centres of Greek culture and learning. Paul would preach to
The St. Lawrence boulevard is one of the most known and talked about road in Canada. In the collective imagination, it has long been the street that separates Montreal in half. Which is quite understandable as the St. Lawrence boulevard is the backbone of the great French-speaking city. A city born from its river, founded downstream of the mighty Lachine rapids, which form a natural barrier for ocean-going ships, Montreal turns its back on its majestic stream. But it is as if to throw oneself into an otherwise tumultuous torrent which, from the wharves of the St. Lawrence to those of the Rivière des Prairies, rolls its course from one side to the other of the island of Montreal. St. Lawrence boulevard is the matrix of
To me, Saint Quiteria has proven she is more than worthy of being called a saint. Saint Quiteria was born during the second century, and was a part of a nonuplet, or nine children born at the same time. Quiteria’s mother and father were both high figures a part of the Roman Empire. Her mother feared she would be compared to an animal, because of the amount of daughters she had at once, she ordered a maiden from town to drown her nine baby daughters. The maiden taking mercy on the children, decided to raise them with the other peasant women. The nine children were raised in a close-community and raised in the Catholic faith. A few years later, the daughters were arrested for refusing to believe in a Roman god, and they were all taken to the governor – who was their father¬ - who recognized them through their familiar features.
Throughout history stories have been twisted to appeal to a target audience. St George is one of those characters. He originally was a Roman soldier who was killed for his beliefs, then a knight in shining armor who ran around saving princesses and slaying dragons. He was a real person who became legendary, and who influenced many cultures.
The UNB Saint John campus is located north of the city’s central “uptown” area and overlooks the majestic Kennebecasis River. It is located on 100 Tucker Park Road and annually occupies approximately 2,550 students.
The religious order the sister’s charity of St Josephs was founded by Elizabeth Seton in the united states. She founded this religious order in 1815 after a number of struggles including the death of her husband. She married her husband in 1794 and he was a wealthy business man. Elizabeth and William Seton had five children and 3 of them died at a very young age. Although she was very busy raising her children she still found time to help the sick and dying among her family, friends and neighbours.

Clare a plain robe and veil. Under the advisement of Francis of Assisi, Saint Clare decided to join the convent of the Benedictine Nuns of San Paulo. Saint Clare showed an extreme amount of courage and strength, by giving her entire life for Jesus Christ. Over time, other women joined the convent to become brides of Christ, and gave up their wealth and money. They were called the “Poor Ladies of San Damiano” and were known for their devotion to the Lord and how powerful their prayers were; which is why Assisi was saved from invaders twice. Over time they ended up naming the order “The Poor Ladies”.
Saint Francis was one of the most selfless people to live. Francis gave up his rich and lavish life style to live as Jesus Christ did. There are many qualities that Saint Francis possessed that I can connect to a few people I know, but the few that I am going to be relating to my life would be his generosity, how prayerful he was and his humbleness. I believe that two of my close friends possess qualities that make them like Francis.
Saint Bonaventure was born in Umbria, Italy to parents Giovanni di Fidanza who was a physician and Maria Ritella, he was an Italian medieval Franciscan, scholastic theologian and philosopher, and there is not a lot of information about his childhood. He was born as Giovanni di Fidanza just like his father but later on be canonized by Pope Sixtus IV. He would be also later on declared a Doctor of the church in 1588 by Pope Sixtus V.
Saint Anthony of Egypt was a saint that was considered the father of organized monasticism and was known for living an angelic and inspirational life. Saint Anthony was born in the year of 251 AD in Egypt and died on January 17, 356 in Egypt as well. Saint Anthony lived out his calling from God by becoming a monk and living in the mountains to grow closer to God through prayer. Saint Anthony was a very inspirational saint that lived an extraordinary life and was a very different saint from the others. (Saint Anthony of Egypt).
St. Ignatius of Antioch was born in 35 in the Province of Syria in the Roman Empire. He converted to Christianity at a young age. This was very risky because he lived in an area where Christianity was very frowned upon. There is almost nothing known about his early life. His life picks up in AD 67. He was chosen to serve as the Bishop of Antioch. He succeeded Saints Peter and Evodius as bishop there for forty years. During the persecution of Emperor Domitian, Ignatius kept up courage by daily preaching, praying, and fasting. Then, Emperor Domitian died and Emperor Trajan took over. Trajan's reign we have records of a number of martyrs,
The death of Stephen in Acts chapters seven and eight is an interesting passage that can leave readers quite perplexed – so much takes place in such a short narrative. Stephen’s martyrdom bears an uncanny similarity to the death of Christ in Luke chapter twenty-three; it seems as if the Greek-speaking Jews that condemned Stephen are the same as those who were in favor of executing Christ. Perhaps the most interesting thing about this passage though, is the introduction of Saul, who appears in the narrative almost unexpectedly, leaving the reader wondering about his significance in the death of Stephen. Through this transitional story, Luke shows
