ANXIETY. STOP BREATHING SO QUICKLY. LONG BREATHS. YOU’LL HYPERVENTILATE. BREATHE. REPEAT. REPEAT. REPEAT. REPEAT. REPEAT.

First, I quit eating breakfast. It would be a waste of 15 minutes in the morning that could be spent sleeping, giving me 5 and a half hours of sleep, instead of my normal 5.25. Besides, what’s the point of scrounging around every morning in the empty kitchen, failing to find something to eat? All I need is exactly 12 minutes to get ready for school before the bus comes. The looks I could deal with, I’ve gotten used to them the last 6 years of my life. But when they started calling me names, telling me to kill myself as I walked by, I stopped eating lunch in the cafeteria.
Finally I’d get home, starving since I hadn 't eaten all day. I’d get pizza, chinese or whatever I was in the mood for with the cash Dad left on the table. My twelve year old self was so excited to be able to pick out whatever I wanted to eat every night, but over the years take out had lost its appeal. When the food arrived I’d leave half in the fridge for Dad and take the other half to eat in my room. My room isn’t big, it fits a queen sized bed and desk, the walls undecorated and boring. The only light comes from a dim light bulb hanging from the ceiling, but I barely ever use it. I lived in darkness, a pale glow coming from my laptop illuminating my face as I scrolled with one hand, the other always holding some type of food or drink.
For hours I stayed like this, browsing the internet. Clicking from one website to the next, looking for something that would stimulate me after a mind numbing day. Every site bombarding me with advertisements, showing me half naked boys and girls holding up something they 're selling. Every minute of every day someone was telling me how to change. How better it would be if I were thinner, had better skin, owned all these
