The LiveCareer skills assessment gives the individual the opportunity to complete an assessment to determine which occupations match the skills of the individual. In taking this assessment, the reader was able to gather information on careers that are of interest. Most people select careers that they are interested in or have the skills to perform certain jobs. According to the text, a career is defined as the pattern of work-related experiences that span the course of a person’s life (Werner & DeSimone, 2012, p. 396). The assessment reviews the different aspects in determine which career is appropriate. The assessment examines the four aspects that make up who are to include your interest, personality, values, knowledge, skills and abilities.
Interest
In searching for careers, most people match their career are happier at work, with more confidence and remain with their chosen profession (“Career Test, Free Career Aptitude Test, livecareer.com”, n.d.). The basic interest profile outlines the level of interest in different occupations. In reviewing my interest scores, the following three work styles, include being assertive, systematic, and persuasive in which the reader scored high because these interest can be used in many occupations. The lowest of interest scores was in the area of health services, art and outdoors, which the assessment tests was high accurate. The work styles indicated the reader scored high in administrative, clerical and teaching/social.
Personality
There are many major criticisms and controversial issues surrounding career and vocational interest measures. Even the most widely accepted measure, the Strong Vocational Interest Blank, received disapproval regarding gender bias and lack of theory. Though gender bias seems to be a large issue regarding career and vocational measures, a main challenge in interest testing is determining if career preferences are constant (Kaplan & Saccuzzo, 2017). If a test has limited predictive validity, then a clinician could be giving career path advise to someone who loses interest in their job two short years later, which is not helpful in any sort. As important as reducing gender bias in a test is, I find myself identifying more with the issue of predictive
As an educator and advisor, I am very interested in student interest inventories. Working in the classroom, it can be very difficult to assess interest of students when choosing thematic units or classroom project. As a college advisor, I am constantly searching for resources to help my students choose a future career path. I completed research and found three popular interest inventories- the Strong Interest Inventory, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the Clifton Strengths Finder. Each of the three assessments analyze the same general theme of interest, personality and career choice. I have analyzed each to determine the best interest inventory to use with my students.
Myers and Briggs created a personality test that not only will help people to figure out their personality types, but at the same time it aids in the discovery of which career pathways people should take based on their specific personality traits. Based on the personality trait INFP that was given to me from the Myer-Briggs test I have quite a few career pathways that fit my personality. Some of the career choices suited to my personality is a writer, counselor, teacher/professor, psychologist, psychiatrist, musician, or a religious worker; which seems like a pretty broad selection. Although there is a broad selection of careers that would suit my personality none of which are the career path that I have chosen; which is to become a physical therapist, but if I was not set on a goal some of these career ideas would not seem too bad. While reading the list of jobs suited for my personality I was surprised to see that psychologist was on the list because before I decided to go for physical therapy I wanted to pursue a career in that exact field. As for most of the other fields mentioned above I
In order for me to complete this career assessment paper, I initially took an Interest Inventory survey. Upon completing this process, it revealed that my personality profile score was (I, C, A). These three letters represented my strengths and interests in determining which career field would best suit me.
The results from assessment weren’t surprising to me, as I ranked very high in conventional, Enterprising and Social categories. There were several careers listed in the job zone that appealed to me such as Human Resources Specialist, A Meeting, Convention and Event Planner, Compensation and Benefits Manager and Social &Human Service Assistant. All of these careers stem from organization and analytical thinking characteristics and follow guidelines
People can learn practical living skills on a day-to-day basis. It is important therefore that care workers recognize opportunities and give the appropriate support. If a person is living in a supported living environment, the opportunities to learn life skills can be effectively embedded on a regular basis. For example, while the support workers helping the person to do their shopping use public transport or access a service such as a cinema, there are opportunities to develop communication, organization and numeracy skills. When planning activities the support worker, with the person, should recognize and seize opportunities for that person to develop valuable learning and life skills. Shopping trips can be a useful learning opportunity – for example, when planning what is needed, writing lists, organizing where to go and keeping within
Obtaining a career focus is valuable in any college student’s lifetime; therefore, it would be profitable to meet with a career counselor to discuss occupational goals and interests. Moreover, involvement with the Focus 2 assessment is another contributing factor used to guide the career decision making process. The Focus 2 is comprised of five simple tests that will analyze compatible careers for the individual taking the assessment. Mr. Richard Glass, the career counselor that agreed to meet with me, believes that the work interests assessment produces the most promising results. For instance, my work interests fall under the social, artistic, and investigative categories. Through computerized analysis, I was given a list of occupations that would agree with the data received. The content of this paper will evaluate the results of the Focus 2 assessment, in addition to the major points discussed by Mr. Glass. Come the end of this paper, the reader will gain a better understanding of my work
With the variety of majors and interests college offers, the decision of choosing a career holds a heavy weight. There are many paths one can go to have a successful, fulfilling job for the rest of their lives; this is where college can explore a person’s likes and dislikes. From taking taking the self-assessment, it resulted careers that revolve around medical and/or as educators to help others. These choices seemed very very accurate and possible that I want to pursue. I have always been passionate of caring for others in some source. The four careers that I decided to further research are: occupational therapist, social and human service assistant, pharmacist, and veterinarian.
I believe each younger generation is the current generation future so we should teach our children right and watch them grow. We should support our children to the highest standard and let them know to never be afraid to want to know more. We should encourage our children to do their best and try their best at all times. I say this because our children need us they need us to let them know they are safe and that we will not harm them in any way. I want to know why and how some people could ever harm a child. Unfortunately somethings cannot be explained or figured out sometimes we just have to live without knowing. Before, during, and after trauma we are supposed to be there to shelter our child. There needs to be a better protection service
The Canadian government has implemented measures to increase the availability of in home care givers in Canada. The laws that have been created have allowed for many people to become fully pledged Canadian citizens. Many of the people coming into Canada to fill in in house care givers vacancies have been predominantly Pilipino women. These women are given the promise of become a Canadian citizen. After an extensive and costly application process these women from the Philippines are placed in the homes of their employer. The migrant work must live within the employers home for a period no shorter than two years, and must maintain only one employer in the two year waiting .l period. Only once the two year commitment is fulfilled is the migrant worker allowed to apply to Canadian citizenship. Many of these workers come to canada with the promise of have social upwards mobility through the program. However, although the program sounds promising the reality of the program is to
I do like to work under a strong leader with set instructions. But, I always like to solve problems and search for answers. Lastly, throughout my life, I've have always been a helper and always found it personally rewarding to service anyone in need. These scores relate to your career goal because it confirms that my career path that I have chosen will be a good career path for me. The health care program management appeals to my social interest, because I am going to be providing a service to patience's and making sure that their information is in order. It appeals to my investigative interest because I will be solving any issues, technological or patient problems that could arise during the day. Lastly, it is attractive to my conventional interest because I will have a set schedule and a number of tasks to do in order to make sure the clinic is running
I am surprised that an online test can be so accurate, I think it did a really good job describing my work personality. I even liked all of the occupation suggestions that were given to me. The number one job on my top ten list is an Accountant, which is what my major is. I’m eager to learn more about accounting because it fits my results so well, I was clearly born to be an accountant. I also think accounting is interesting because there are so many different types of accounting and accountants and I’d like to learn more about them. So many people just picture it to be a boring desk job but it can be so much more than that. Another job that is listed that I’d be interested in learning more about is an auditor. I don’t know too much about it, but I know they deal with fraud and investigating and things of that nature. I’m a really nosey person and I would love doing that kind of stuff. However, maybe I am totally off about the kind of work they do. All in all, I’d really like to learn about a lot of different occupations that you can work with when you have an Accounting
The first career that I chose was registered nurse. The Holland Interest Code for registered nurse was SIC. I believe that S, which stands for Social or Helpers, does fit me to some extent, as I enjoy helping others but I do not enjoy being social very much. Next is I, which stands for Investigative or Thinkers. I believe that this category fits me well, as I often am curious and look into subject that I don’t know about, and I do enjoy a good challenge or too. Last is C, which stands for Conventional or Organizers. I think this is the category that fits me the best, as I enjoy organizing things and strictly following rules. Now, onto the 5 most important skills. These skills were, as listed in order from most important to least, social perceptiveness,
There comes a time in life where individuals have to leave school to join the world of work whereby they will work their way up to the top. This is where career development comes into place. Career development is defined as progress through various stages in a career (Schreuder & Coetzee,2011). These are stages one goes through in order to mature in a career and for development to even exist, one has to start with making a career choice then developing it .A career choice can be defined as the relation between people’s personality types and their different occupational environment in which they work in.
