I attended Braden River High school until I heard about the opportunity to participate in the dual enrollment program at SCF. I have always been motivated in school, but was ready for a new challenge. I started at State College of Florida my senior year of high school as a dual enrollment student. During my first semester, I took thirteen credit hours and earned a 4.0. The second semester I increased to fourteen credits and again earned a 4.0. By May I had earned twenty six college credits and retained a 4.0 Grade point average. I have always had a passion for school, so there was no chance that I wanted to take a summer break. In May, I enrolled as a non-degree seeking student so that I could continue going to State College of Florida until I received my high school transcripts. This summer I have earned another fourteen college credits and so far have maintained my 4.0 grade point average. I plan to attend State College of Florida in the fall and spring to earn my AA degree and then transfer to either University of Florida or Florida Atlantic University. I want to study microbiology and cell …show more content…
My mother has raised my brother and myself as a single parent since the divorce. She has also taken on the responsibility of taking care of her mother after some major health issues depleted her ability to care for herself. Our family has struggled financially with this one income issue causing difficulty to provide just the basic needs. My brother is currently attending Florida Atlantic University, and although my mother helps as much as she can, he has to obtain loans just to survive. I know that my mother will not have the ability to help me through college, so I am doing whatever I can do to eliminate the financial road block that is standing in my way to reach my career goal. Receiving a scholarship would help facilitate my ability to focus on my education instead of focusing on the ability to pay for
Statistics have shown that students who participate in an after-school club during high school show better academic performance and it also gave them a feeling of closeness to other members of the club. High school experience is much more enjoyable if a student is involved in an extracurricular activity. Students will know where they belong, and their once felt loneliness will be gone. California Scholarship Federation (CSF) is a state-wide organization that engages in many fun service programs throughout the year. In addition to that, CSF recognizes students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievements. CSF welcomes students from freshmen to seniors, and rewards members for doing good deeds. The number one thing I want to accomplish before I graduate from high school is to become the president of CSF club because I enjoy giving volunteer services to my community and it's a perfect opportunity for me to meet new friends.
I first realized my passion for health promotion and disease prevention the summer following my first year of college. I had the privilege of attending the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP), which introduced me to numerous healthcare professionals. During the program, many of the professionals shared their stories about why they choose the profession, and with each story, I began to reflect deeply on my own background and what drew me to medicine. It was not until an emergency medicine physician spoke about his experiences, that allowed me to fully understand connecting my background to my future. The physician mentioned growing up in D.C., which brought to mind my family in D.C. It had been almost a year since my grandmother
As a transfer student, I want to feel California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) such as my home. Being ambassador, it is the best to learn about my school, share my experiences, motivate other students to work towards their goals, look for help if they need, show other students our school's resources, and make others feel special for being part of CSUF.
UNC Wilmington has been my top pick for the college I want to attend to obtain my Bachelor’s degree in Business ever since I was a Junior in high school. I applied for the fall 2016 to spring 2017 semester my senior year of high school and was not accepted into UNC Wilmington. I knew I had a big decision to make and I needed to figure out what I was going to do since I was not accepted into UNC Wilmington. I had been accepted to other universities and I could have easily attended one of them instead but I knew where I really wanted to be was UNC Wilmington. I finally made the decision to take one year at Cape Fear Community College and work hard to get my GPA up to where it needs to be in order to be considered for the fall 2017 semester. I realized that
I have been extremely fortunate to avoid many hardships. However I have faced a financially barrier, especially as I have set the goal to finance college without loans. My family is not poor, but we do not have enough money to put two women through university. I have taken the initiative to surpass this barrier by working and applying for scholarships. I started by attending community college first as it is less expensive. I quickly realized that the lower tuition was not enough and took a job at a grocery store deli. Most of my income has been placed into my savings. I have saved up a decent sum of money, but will still need help to pay for college. Now I am applying for as many scholarships as humanly possible. I have received scholarships
I intend to use this scholarship to help pay for my tuition and books at the Southern Arizona University of Phoenix- Online. I would like to be considered for this scholarship because I have no financial help from my family. This means that I have to be able to pay for college on my own because of the fact that my father is no longer in my life, and my mom has my other siblings to take care of. My father is no longer in my life because he now lives in Mexico with his other family. I don’t have financial help from him because he has a wife and six other children. My mother would like to be able to help me, but she has two other children she’s taking care of by herself, and she has to prepare for my sister's graduation next year as well as mine this year. I plan to get a job after I graduate to help pay for the expenses of college, but since I am going online the expenses of college are going to be a lot less than if I were to go on campus, this is the main reason I am planning to go online, and to take a lot of the stress of being totally alone off myself because I will only be twenty minutes away from my family instead of an hour or two.
College has been a significant goal in my life after both of my brothers didn’t either go or finish college. As the youngest granddaughter in my family, I am the final opportunity for a complete educational track and successful career after. A scholarship will not only assist me in focusing more on my education than the need for the money to pay for my tuition and books, it will push me further towards completing my degrees and my pursuit of one day having a successful career. This scholarship is what I need to achieve my goals and make my education worth it for the
As much as the world tries to say that money isn’t everything, money does make certain situations better. I want to ease the burden that my family and I bare in attempting to send me to college. Also scholarships will help me maintain healthy stress levels while I’m in college. I will be able to focus on my studies without the constant stress of how I am going to pay for my tuition. I will be far more motivated, diligent, and disciplined to complete my degree if I have scholarships to support me. Knowing that someone else has placed their confidence in me will give me extra incentive to complete my
Upon entering Cal State LA, my goal was and still is to attain a business education focusing on accounting to aid in commencing a satisfying long career. To accomplish this goal, I have had to make disillusioning sacrifices that have left my family saddened, particularly my mother, as I am not present at events where she wishes to see all her children together. My partner has also had to endure similar absences, however she understands my reasoning and in contrast, is supportive and keeps me motivated, and for much more than just that, I am beholden to her. The desire for my family’s better future, the motive behind my actions, keeps me advancing. My strong work ethic can be seen in the grades I have earned at this university. I did not just want to complete my courses, I wanted to excel and in so proving to the self-doubt in me that I do have the intelligence and dedication to succeed. I transferred during the spring of 2015 with an overall grade point average of 2.33. By staying focused while working at McDonald’s and attending school full time, I have earned only A’s and now maintain a core grade average of 3.97, raising my overall cumulative to 2.701. I am
Although I live in a two parent household, I am only one of two college students in my family. Currently both of my parents are employed in Social Services, and unfortunately they do not have a lot of discretionary income to contribute financially to my college costs. I qualify for a partial Pell Grant, but I will still fall short of the total cost to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2016-17 school year. In order to avoid taking out a significant amount of loans, which will leave me in debt I have worked hard in the classroom to maintain a 4.0 GPA to qualify for merit based scholarships. Receiving The Joyce and Thomas H. Stanisic Memorial Scholarship will allow me to focus solely on my education rather than financing my education throughout my sophomore year of college.
My ability to continue to make progress as a student at SPC has been due to the combination of financial aid, the Women on the Way Program, and scholarships. Even though I am still struggling very hard, the progress I have been able to achieve has brought me closer to my dream of earning my degree. The ability to further my educational development makes my disability seem insignificant because I am constantly moving forward and my future looks bright. I am no longer fearful or apprehensive as my feelings of insecurity have taken a backseat to the pride I now feel about the success I have made so far. I am still very heavily involved in tutoring and I use some of the awarded scholarship money to purchase materials and teaching aids in order
My mother received a high school diploma and was not able to attend college due to the fact that my grandparents needed help financially. She had to take on various responsibilities at a young age and could not afford a college education. My mother then decided to go back to school years after she gave birth to me and enrolled in a medical program where she would later become a Certified Nursing Assistant. My mother’s strong motivation and determination enabled her to make something of herself. Her perseverance motivated me to aim high for my goals and succeed. Although she had obtained a job, she still does not have the financial means to send me to college. Therefore, receiving a scholarship or any type of grant whether it is twenty dollars
My mom and dad make a combined yearly salary of less than $70,000. They also help provide for me, my brother, and my sister. They help pay for school, clubs, extracurricular activities, phone bills, insurance, and so much more for all three of us and plus themselves. I work at Foodland in Scottsboro making minimum wage and I try to pay for what I can, such as my tuition and books so far, gas, food, clothes, and other necessities. As of right now I am running out of spending money and my parents are trying to provide for all of us as best as they can, and we are not eligible for Pell Grant. Gaining this scholarship would be very beneficial in helping me gain my Associates Degree here at Northeast so i can achieve my goal to transfer to the University
Since April of 2012, I have worked full-time at CARF International, an international accrediting body of health and human service providers. During my tenure at CARF, I have held varying roles including staff assistant, learning technology specialist, and research assistant, wherein I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of business units and stakeholders. My work experience at CARF has allowed me to see firsthand how different units feed off of each other in order to accomplish a common mission; in our case, of improving the lives of persons served in the programs in which we accredit.
Although just about everyone will say they cannot go to college without receiving scholarships or help financially, most of the time this statement is exaggerated to make the seem more desperate and give them higher chances in getting the scholarships they apply for. However, I believe that I really need this scholarship in order to afford and pay for my college tuition. This is because I am not the only person in my family that will be leaving for college this upcoming fall. Both my twin sister and I will be going to college at the same time and hopefully we will be attending the same university as well. However, having two people to pay for is not the only problem, for it is harder to get financial aid where I am from. Living in Northern
