School Lunches Proposal The eating habit of millions of Americans have changed tremendously over the past decades; meanwhile, there are no signs of making a difference. And it can be reflected on the school lunches provided to our local schools in the U.S, but what is exactly the problem? While, there are billions of dollars spent on the School Lunch Program; the food provided doesn’t reach a certain level of nutrients. The healthier and fresh crops seems to be just out the price range; for this reason, fast food is the only thing that can be affordable. Making school lunches unhealthy! Alice Waters says, “...it has turned out to be a poor investment” (par. 1) That is, why, it is time

But what is exactly the meaning of a better tasty and delicious meal? Well it can be adding more sugars and salts to make the foods taste way better; however, how will this help our students be healthier by improving the taste? There’s many ways to interpret a better taste meal, but what makes you think they will provide something healthy. If meals are about 20 cents …show more content…
If the schools truly care about the health of the students, they will do anything to provide healthy and fresh foods. By providing all the resources needed to improve everything along with the quality not just the taste! It is extremely important that children start from a young age to learn the importance of having a healthy diet at school and specially at home. This will prevent many diseases like diabetes, heart problems, and high blood pressure. They can be very common when someone suffers from obesity, especially among kids. But, also, think about the daily environment at school. It be amazing seeing students eat their lunches without any concerns. If the food is expire, looks weird, contains a lot of calories, or tastes weird. As well, not seeing all the trash containers full of unwanted foods by students will eventually increase positive attitude in the atmosphere.
It will make schools a better place to be in. And parents wouldn’t be too worried, about what their kids eat at school. Or if they had plenty of food throughout the
Nationwide students waist over 70% of fruits and vegetables, while others are sitting around without food at all in other places(Public brief). Some students only get the 2 meals they are provided with at school ,but they often are not provided with enough to eat. Its import for low income and less fortunate families to be provided enough time to eat to make sure they are receiving there energy and daily nutrients(Godoy& Allison). Increasing the school lunch time will also save the schools a great amount of money(Public brief). School lunch food wasted to cost $1.2 billion dollars each year, which is enough for a person to buy a new car everyday of there life(Public brief). A simple increase in time could save schools a bunch of money needed to improve the school building and faculty. Many cafeteria staff and teachers have reported complaints about how students aren't eating all their food and they have to throw it away(EHHI). Most of the time in high schools foods are sold à la carte instead of a full meal to avoid having to throw away or make more food(EHHI). As a result of the food waste cafeterias started using foods with more fats and less nutritious items to get students to eat( EHHI). Cafeteria are selling french fries and not the healthy food to make there money because students aren't eating enough of the
School cafeterias have been notoriously known for having unhealthy, unappealing food. Students at schools are being forced to eat these foods, when parents cannot provide regular lunches for their children. These lunches usually include the following: pizza, soda, cheeseburgers, chicken sandwiches, and others, all filled with artificial ingredients and preservatives. To address this problem, there should be a switch between the foods and drinks being served, and I have just the ideas that will be delicious and healthy. Authors Alice Waters, Katrina Heron, and Mark Bittman all agree that some initiative needs to be taken to fix this unhealthy food problem, and so do I. Together, the student body and parents will address the school board with healthier food options that are better tasting and better for the body.
Brand name fast-food items now account for almost 50% of schools sales (Brockett). As one can see, the financial benefits of the brand names in lunches can help boost a school’s declining profit. If fast-food was taken away from menus, many schools would fail to break even and have to cut their staff (Brockett). “Financially, it’s better for us if we go up to 400 meals” said Amy Hedrick, a food service supervisor in California (Lehmann). If she tries to sell off brand pizzas, her profit declines dramatically as she only sells 250 to 300 pizzas. If kids are being forced to eat healthy through their school lunch, they will leave the school over their lunch hour and go find a fast food restaurant. Even if they don’t leave, will taking away their brand name foods really solve the problem? The solution is not to frighten kids away with putting bans on school lunches. Rather, teach them about nutritional values of the healthier options and leaving them the choice, as it talks about in “The State Has No Place In The Lunch Bags Of A Nation”. If students know the benefits of eating healthy, they will start to turn away from fast
to provide students with a healthy diet. Even though schools must meet the national requirement
The United States have been facing a problem of obesity for quite some time now. And no matter how far we dig into this problem, we will find many reasons for the cause. In today’s society, politicians are inclined to take this issue serious because it is now affecting our children on a large scale. According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services, 1 in 3 adolescents between the ages of 6 and 19 are overweight. Many believe this to be a problem of poor eating habits and in some cases the lack of healthy eating options. In the documentary Food Inc. it mentions schools choosing healthy lunch options provided by local farming. In this paper I will evaluate how Wisconsin public schools have adopted programs that will
On behalf of the students of Clackamas High School we would like to discuss the problem of feeding in our cafeteria. We noticed that lots of high schoolers consume unhealthy lunches everyday only because they don’t have a different option. That leads to weight issues and skin problems. Lots of students just don’t realize how many junk food they are eating during those four years of studying here. I believe that everyone is able to make their own choice but when you are hungry, you don’t really care about what to eat.
A healthier lunch change is happening across schools statewide. Schools have finally realized that students are not eating as healthy as they should be. Schools will began to have healthier students, better food choices, and be able to cut out unnecessary junk foods. If schools change to healthier lunches, students will begin to become healthier themselves. Students will receive better nutritional value from the change in their lunches. Although students will vote against the change in food, they slowly realize the school is doing this help them achieve better health. Also, students will receive better energy and bodily functions from new and improved lunches. Students will gain increased vitamins and minerals from the which they were not currently receiving Healthier lunches will bring better food choices to students. It will replace normal, unhealthy foods with more nutritious, healthier
People who support Obama's food policy claim that parents need having their kids eat at school help because cannot ensure their kids are eating properly at school.of course parents can't know everything they eat at school.my second reason is even thinking that schools need to limit food choices this doesn’t make government control right.even though i think they don't have to do that but of course i know you have to watch your food limit but it doesn't have to be like that all the time.my third reason is ‘ The federal standards have faced criticism from nutrition officials as well as students. The independent Government
Schools do their best to meet the needs of students by providing textbooks, well-qualified teachers, and other appropriate resources. However, students rarely get a chance to share what they really think their schools need most. My school should accommodate students' needs by adding healthier lunches because it will improve academic performance, promote good nutrition, and prevent obesity.
Therefore we need to change the school lunch system even if we would spend a bit more money on school lunches. As a result, we would offer healthier and satisfying school lunches. It would only cost about $5 per child and annually about $27 billion dollars,it may sound to be a costly price. In response to that, there would be an immense outcome of benefits, such as lessening obesity and kids would be able to focus more in school because they would be obtaining healthier school lunches. Proven by researchers' children can process and learn more accurately by eating nutritious meals, unfortunately current lunch meals can not help improve that. Also, several kids are only able to get their meals at school because of financial circumstances. So if it was possible to have nutritious lunches they would get healthier vitamins and
Calories, obesity, epidemic―these words flash through daily conversion like wildfire. The American public today is severely concerned with the nation’s growing health problem, as they should be. Recently, the nation’s school lunches have had major renovations due to the alarming increase in childhood obesity. The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) has set out to fix the problems concerning nutrition in school lunches. Because the National School Lunch Program is required to follow the most current version of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA), school lunches are undergoing massive reform at the cost of students.
Buddha once said, “ To keep the body in good health is a duty...otherwise we shall not be able to keep our minds strong and clear.” A trend started across the United States several years ago towards improving the quality of food provided for students eating school lunch. “School lunch has evolved quite a bite over the last century”(Avey). In spite of this evolution, there are many reasons why the public school system should further improve their daily lunch program. These changes would still include the daily recommended balance of fruits, vegetables, proteins, and carbohydrates. The top three reasons to improve school lunches include: obesity rate, overall grades, and lifelong habits.
Of all of the problems that dishearten children today, the one that bothers them the most is being unhealthy. Five out of six students from the Manalapan Englishtown Middle School agree that there should be a change in the schools' cafeteria foods; they came up with a solution to help kids be healthy. Unhealthy foods should be eliminated in schools for many reasons. First of all, kids concentrate better when they are healthy. Being healthy helps children to concentrate better because if they are healthy in the inside and the outside, they will not have to worry about their health or how they look. Secondly, having only healthy foods in school help parents to take good care of their kids. For instance, imagine a mom that is a seventh
There are many possible solutions to getting better cafeteria food. Since the school wants to make the food healthier we might be able to make healthy, better tasting food. We also could take a vote on what the kids
Have you ever tasted school cafeteria food? I don’t think you would want to. In school story books, do you have characters saying that the food tasted good at school cafeterias? Nope. Why is this? Cafeteria food is often cheap, bought in bulk, high in calories, malnutritious, and microwaved. Student polls and opinions prove this. Therefore, this leads to a suggestion: Healthier, tastier foods and a better, advanced lunch system should be implemented.
