The detailed coding for the app will be done by a hired professional that can bring the product to its full effectivity. It is compatible with any smartphone that has a back camera, although there will be slight differences in the exact workings from the different operating systems so that it is consistent in working on all phones well. All technology, like that of the food picture recognition and nutritional analysis software, has already been created and only needs to be purchased and adapted to the specifics of the Om Nom NoMoniter. The app’s home page will be a sitemap with buttons to the camera and audio input page, the daily diet information page, the diet progression page, and settings. It will also include basic information and instruction on the apps use and functionality. From any page, a customer can tap on the logo located on the top banner (Fig. 1) and be transferred to the home page. Figure one is a prototypical illustration of what the home page will appear as. When looking to open a nutrition consulting office, it is important to choose an effective dietary nutrition analysis program. I have recorded my own dietary intake for 24 hours and have entered the items into two separate programs that give you the nutrient profile for each food item entered. The two programs are the USDA’s Food List, which is a comprehensive list of 13,000 foods and their nutrients, and the CRON-O-Meter which is a daily food diary, activity log, and biometric log ("CRON-O-Meter User Guide", 2016).
The description of PDAT has previously been detailed (Budiningsari et al., 2016). It was adapted from the visual Comstock six-point scale to estimate the proportion of food left over after patients eat, with additional information on energy and protein content of the meals. The PDAT tool is written as a ready reckoner, to enable observers to directly estimate the nutrient intake of patients at each meal. For each level of intake, there are two values given for energy and protein: 390/513 kcal and 23/25 g if food if 100% consumed. These two values represent the energy and protein contents for soft textured food (lower value) and normal textured food (higher value). The PDAT consisted of six pictures of three food groups: staple food (rice/porridge), animal-source protein (chicken, meat, egg, fish) and non-animal source protein (taufu or tempe). Each picture was partially- to fully-shaded to represent the consumption level (0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 80% or 100%). The PDAT consists of four possible combinations of menu items (Figure 2). For example, I was not expected ranch salad dressing to have high level of calories. After I saw the calories level it has from food label, I decided not to foolish myself by eating too much ranch dressing with salads and think I am eating vegetable with low calories. The purpose of this experiment is to investigate how the caloric energy in food varies in different foods and the correlation between high fat foods and calories using a homemade calorimeter.
Dietary tracking is very important for people with diet related health issues, people trying to lose weight, and just understanding and keeping everyday nutritional health. Many websites, applications, and devices have dietary tracking databases that need the food to be inputted, and selected from a large list (ChooseMyPlate, 2016; SuperTracker, 2015; SelfNutritionData, 2016; Fontana, Farooq, Sazonov, 2014). This process can take 20 - 30 minutes for a diverse meal, which requires users to sit down and input everything they eat. Eating foods with unlabeled packaging makes it nearly impossible to track and input its nutritional value. With the Om Nom NoMonitor food profiling technology, the user will no longer have to worry about unlabeled foods. The Om Nom NoMonitor has software that can analyze a picture taken directly from a mobile phone using technology similar to facial recognition, and then display statistics and log it into a digital food journal (University of Salzburg, 2016). This product would be the best solution for this issue. The Om Nom NoMonitor would be represented most accurately and commercially feasible by a smartphone and downloadable app.
Calorimetry is a processed used to measure the amount of energy there is in a food, where heat is produced depending upon how much energy is in the food. This works by burning the food, which will create an exothermic reaction and will heat the container of water, which will provide a measurement for the amount of energy in each food. The calculation for this is for every 1oC of temperature change per 1ml of water, there is 1 calorie (Jennings [ONLINE]). There would be a similar from of calorimetry used commercially just higher tech and that’s how we get our labelling of food packets.
