Science Without Science Is Materialism

Bahá'u'lláh, the founder of the Bahá’í faith, once said, “Religion without science is superstition and science without religion is materialism” (www.bahai.org). Throughout history, mankind always strive to seek answers to solve the perplexities of the world. For that, there is one question that provokes everyone’s curiosity: How was the world created? Young earth creationism is an example of where science explains natural phenomenon that enabled life to establish and where faith explains that an almighty being created the world through wondrous works. As of today, it is still a debate that continues because of different conclusions of how the world came to be. In order to delve further into the issue, insights from Plato, Francis Bacon, and Richard Feynman along with additional sources clarify why people believe and support scientific ideas over religion. To identify factors that drive people to believe why the world was created by natural and scientific forces instead of being made by an almighty being, a various distinctions from science and faith must be made. According to the Bible, it is written, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him; and without him was not anything made that hath been made” (Bible.com). Evidence suggests that a superior being over reigns humanity.
