For this project, we were asked to find primary and secondary sources that pertain to writing within my major or possible future profession. My primary source came from an interview I conducted with Ruth Ann Panepinto, PhD. Dr. Panepinto, a Doctor of Psychology, which she earned from West Virginia University. She has over forty years of experience in the private and public sector in health services including serving as the Secretary of the Department of Health in Human Services in the state of West Virginia and as an adjunct clinical assistant professor in the School of Medicine at West Virginia University. Currently, Dr. Panepinto works as the ‘Regional Vice President’ of Molina Medicaid Solutions (MMS), her job includes working as an administrator …show more content…
Writing is typical in this field and is not limited to writing follow-ups or memos, as one may expect would be usual in this field. It is also important to keep in mind the audience that you are writing to and their understanding of the subject at hand. Dr. Panepinto, the Vice President of Molina Medicaid Solutions, target audience is primarily those who are well-educated, including: “Corporate Executives, co-workers, staff, legislators, health care providers, and the Government of the State of West Virginia. (R.A. Panepinto, personal communication, February 22, 2017).” However, Dr. Panepinto also stated that “In my job, most writing is informal. Except when submitting certain reports or documents to corporate or the federal government, this decision is determined by the target audience (R.A. Panepinto, personal communication, February 22, 2017).” “Writing is an integral part of my job.” she said. “It is mandatory to have good writing skills, in order to effectively communicate with the broad range of people that are involved in my scope of responsibility. Writing is a daily occurrence (R.A. Panepinto, personal communication, 23 February …show more content…
It was also interesting to find that mediums such as animation could be used in the Public Health field. Dr. Panepinto also mentioned she has contributed to healthcare trade magazines. Trade magazines are catered to a particular discipline and offer products and services. Since trade magazines have an intent to sell or pitch a product, persuasion methods such as ethos, logos, and pathos are critical. According to Dr. Panepinto, these methods are used regularly within her writing, she explained “Since these are ways to persuade people to accept one’s point of view or position on a subject, I have used these modes to sell ideas to the customer, the legislators and other audiences (R. A. Panepinto, personal communication, February 22,
“Letters to King Jao of Portugal,” was written by the king of Kongo, King Affonso, who’s real name was Nzinga Mbemba. King Affonso writes this letter directed to the king of Portugal, King Jao, to inform him about his concerns of his people. The letter is dated 1526 and takes place in the Kingdom of Kongo, which by during this time slave trade is going on (705). Throughout the letter of King Affonso seems to beg King Jao for help rather than being demanding, “again we beg of your Highness to agree with it”(707), remarks King Affonso.
Persuasion consists of artistic and inartistic proof. This theory comes from the great Greek philosopher Aristotle. Artistic proof is controlled by the persuader who can control the choice of evidence, the organization of the persuasion, style of delivery, and language choices. Aristotle believed that there were three main types of artistic proof, ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos is persuasion depending on a source’s credibility. Pathos uses the emotions to appeal to people. Lastly, logos uses the idea of logical and rational appeals. By implementing the three artistic proofs when raising awareness for the disease Lupus it can create great dividends for the cause and rally people to raise awareness.
To begin with the types of writings I will do in college, they will include essays, research reports, group presentations, as well as discussion boards. Throughout my college the main goal is for you to be able to produce writing that is clear and organized in every class. This will help to improve our written communication skills in every subject area. This is important for when I enter the work field to be better prepared to perform certain tasks. Furthermore, the types of writing I will be responsible for as a Medical Assistant on the job are based on the medical classes and training that I took part in college (Roberts, 2018). That was planned to prepare me for when I entered the work field. As a medical assistant I will be accountable for recording patient’s history and personal information on the daily basis (Bureau of labor statistics, 2018). Another task that will include writing is medical assistants must learn to code both paper and electronic health records (EHRs) (MedAssistantEDU.org, 2018). Ultimately, in this position I often will fill out insurance forms and will be required to handle a number of administrative duties, such as appointment scheduling, medical billing and coding, as well as medical transcriptions. I will also take part in assessing and interviewing patients as they come in for their daily
Each of these is a different audience; communicating to all parties in writing is difficult, as wording must be precise and understandable for all individuals reading the reports. Effective writing skills are utilized heavily in both clinical and public education settings. Reports are intended to be completely objective, focusing only on what the therapist observed and not what they perceived. For example, if a therapist thinks the student is anxious because she stutters, they can only say they observed her twirling her hair while she was speaking with a stutter. Objective writing is key to reports, whether the therapist is writing individualized education programs or insurance letters, and separates prospective speech pathologists in graduate school. Efficient, quality writing cannot be understated as a speech pathologist. Without it, individuals that need services the therapist provides would be at a disadvantage and consequently a lower quality of life. Practicing to write and synthesize information in an objective and scientific manner now will aid me as I continue to pursue this career. I want to help people, and as I improve my writing skills, I grow my ability to serve the people I will be working
On October 3, 2017, at approximately 1430 hours, I, Luis Monroy and Luis … went to the Special Collections and Archives, located at the library of California State University Los Angles. Upon our arrival, we contacted the staffs who help us with our investigation. It should be noted that the staff was friendly and helpful at all time. Luis and I chose to do our research on World War II. The stack of information that was given to us contained various documentations informing us about World War II. We were able to go thru all the documents. Unfortunately, due to the time limit that we had, we had to rush our investigation. We also took photographs of the documents in order to make the Collaborative Primary Source Essay easier.

Primary sources are useful because they are the reports and interpretations of the historians that are closer to the event. Therefore, some of the primary sources that will be most helpful when researching to what extent did the military play a role in the decision to drop the atomic bomb on August 6, 1945. First, I would use the interviews and memos that lead up to the event; I will read some of the interviews that were conducted from sources like Robert Oppenheimer, Stanislaus Ulam, and Kathleen Maxwell, these people are important, because they are the individuals who actually worked on the bomb. I will pull the interviews from the Voices of the Manhattan Project. Then I would like to get into the actual decision and meetings in Potsdam, which will be pulled from a few memos,
A primary source is something that was written or produced in the time period when your entry took place, such as letters, speeches, diaries, photographs, and more. This definition does apply to primary sources found on the internet. An interview with someone is a primary source if that person actually lived through the events being described. A secondary source is different from a primary source because it is a source by an author who did not live through a historical period or event. Secondary sources include interpretations of primary sources such as history textbooks, encyclopedias, and biographies, and also descriptive articles or information found online. How they compare is that a primary source was created in the time and place described
My current position requires that I write daily. I prepare estate plans, draft petitions, and provide information to my clients, who usually are not lawyers. I provide my client written instructions regarding funding their trusts, trust administration, and probate procedures. Many clients prefer communicating via email; thus, I find myself writing detailed explanations of legal theories and application of the law to the facts of their case. It is crucial they understand the issues, so they may make educated decisions. My clients have expressed their appreciation of my ability to communicate complicated legal issues in a straightforward manner. My editing experience includes editing letters drafted by my assistant, as well as pleadings
I have always enjoyed writing, and I believed writing was a subject I was naturally good at. I turned in papers that were still rough drafts, I did not evaluate my sources, nor did I ever take the time to fully understand the prompt. It was not until my first semester of college, in my writing composition course, I realized that I had a lot of work ahead of me to be as good a writer as I thought I was. In the writing course, the students were required to compose several essays using different methods to help progress on the course objectives. The work in this portfolio demonstrates that I have used the methods of synthesis and evaluation of sources to advance my critical thinking skills and develop personal responsibility. Though I have
“Written reports on the other hand give executives, managers, and supervisor’s detailed information as to their overall progress on projected tasks within different departments; and overall company goals” (Nelson & Quick, 2017, pg. 131). In addition, however, there is other types of written communications, such as memo’s and letter’s which give more adequate information when communicating officially, these being larger in span and theme compared to memo’s. “Thus, making the shortest kind of written communication to be that of form, which may be used to collect information inside or outside the organization” (Nelson & Quick, 2017, pg. 131).

At first glance this book may seemed like just a collection of letters, songs, and inventory lists, but shortly after entering the first chapter it was abundantly clear that the title is very misleading. Laundry list’s and love songs are but a minuscule, compared to the ample supply of translations that the author Andrea McDowell has implemented into this collection. Village Life in Ancient Egypt was published in 1999 by Oxford University Press, A well-known source of educational publications. McDowell uses a small variety, but by no means lacking in quantity, of primary and secondary sources, the majority of which consisted of translations from either unearthed ostraca, or the less common papyrus. This Review will discuss the structure of the book, McDowell’s use of primary and secondary sources, and how she gets her argument across.
Historians have used different kinds of sources to reconstruct the narratives of the past or to create a complete and accurate picture of what happened in the past on such aspects as politics, economy, society, culture, religion and art. Their task is not easy and obviously, studying early Indian history also follows this principle. In fact, sources of ancient Indian history are complicated, especially in the case of the written sources, so
