Explain the roles of regulatory bodies relevant to the education sector, which exist to monitor and enforce the legislative framework, including:

General bodies such as the Health and Safety Executive:
The role of the Health and Safety Executive is to make sure that the health and safety of their staff and others who might be affected by their work activities. For example, providing management and observing the statutory framework of all organisations, whether they are industrial, occupational or educational based. This would include all schools to have complied with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

Explain why schools have policies and procedures
Schools have policies and procedures in place to support staff in situations that may involve violence, threatening behaviour and/or abuse among other policies which are all legal requirements within the setting of a school. Policies intend to provide a structure that makes sure consistent principles are applied to practice within a school. They aren’t planned to point out every imaginable event that might be applied within the policy scheme.

Policies can provide employees, governors and parents of prospective pupils with valuable information. For example, a parent might wish to see a school homework policy or behaviour policy before deciding whether to apply for their child to attend the school. Similarly, an employee may wish to see the schools staff development policy, its performance management policy or its leave of absence policy before deciding whether to accept a position at the school.

Governors should be made aware of any policies relating specifically to governors. These might include a governor 's induction policy, a governor’s budget scheme or a governors training policy. Policies should also support school staff, governors, parents, LEA officers and OFSTED inspectors see at a glance what
