Semester Final
On the first day of class you had mentioned that this would be one of the hardest classes a student would take at the highschool level, and if you were not ready for this class you should leave, and talk to Mrs. Hartmen. This scared me and some students actually did leave, but I can say I am glad I was not one of them. This class was hard for me, being that I am more of a creative writer and find it easier to make things up, then to write a story on an event that actually happened, or write a research paper.
Even through the struggles I have learned a lot in this class and my writing skills have improved. I feel more confident in myself when writing an essay or a research paper. Before this class my organization skills were
I have truly enjoyed writing for most of my life and after this class I will continue to enjoy writing hopefully with more skill. I have always viewed myself as a fairly strong writer and this class has reaffirmed that for me, but it has also shown weaknesses in my writing. As an introduction level class this has been one of my favorites; at some point I will take a higher level, even though it is not required for my major. Even though this class is almost over I am continuing to learn. I also love that this class will help me with literally ever other class in my college career. I am not a particularly strong reader, but as my writing skills improve so do the reading skills. While in this class I have learned a lot about everything from what I can improve, to subjects that interest me, and constructing a successful paper.
I have written more in the past year in this course than I probably wrote throughout high school career. This class made me notice that prewriting really does make a difference in the end result as well as having a peer critique your paper. Instead of writing a quick paper and just handing it in, I was actually forced to take the time out to write a rough draft, read my own work out loud, and revise my work. It helped me make my writing more organized and have a better flow throughout my paper In the future, I will continue to use this method as well as visit the many resource we have on campus that can give feedback what can make my paper better or just checking for grammar errors, spell check, and sentence fragments.
I feel as though I have really grown as a writer because of this class. Before taking W131, I always had a hard time trying to put my thoughts down on paper in a way that made sense. No matter how many times I would rewrite my past papers I never seemed to be able to convey my thoughts and beliefs accurately. This course really has taught me the importance of prewriting and revising. Before, I would simple sit down and stare at a blank computer screen and just kind of start typing and what I ended up with was extremely unorganized and hard to follow. Now that I have found a way to prewrite that works for me, I feel as though my writing has really improved and become more organized.
Throughout this course, I was able to assess and evaluate my weaknesses and strengths in writing. This class has truly brought out my ability to write, a skill I did not believe I had. I now know what it takes to become a college-level writer. Also, at the beginning of the course I did not particularly enjoy writing. Now, however, I have a greater respect for
Throughout the course of this semester, I have continuously grown as a writer. Prior to taking this course, I had little experience or knowledge when it came to writing. I used to struggle with forming my thoughts into writing, let alone a paper. I was never confident with what I wrote. My writing had no greater purpose other than the assignment. My writing process included: writing my paper, proofreading it, and turning it in. Once the paper left my hands, it also left my mind. Throughout this course we worked with others, visited the writing lab, wrote critiques, and we were able to revise our papers. I believe that all of this is has caused me to grow greatly as a writer.
I expect to improve on my writing skills from this class not because the professor had great ratings but i feel like the class in general can help me improve in the spots where I need them the most. I do lack on thesis development and many
I learned a lot in this class during the semester. The first project was our learning narrative, it was not what I was expecting from a writing class. I expected we would be writing a many formal essays in MLA format with lots of sources and research. The first essay being a creative writing project was unexpected. At first writing a narrative from my personal experience was difficult for me. I had not written anything besides formal essays since high school. Writing something that was creative and expressive was an adjustment. After a few days of writing I began to really enjoy my learning narrative. I liked being able to express myself and my own experiences and share them with others.
The of the new semester I did not know what to expect because building or constructing stuff was never my expertise. Towards the end of fall semester I did contribute to the the play layout more than ever by designing the Corny Collins sign that is currently used in the play Hairspray. I did not know because last semester I was never involved with the construction of anything and I did not know about this new semester. I started off the semester not good because Dr. Sannah caught me not doing work sometimes, but he did not know that I was already done with my work. He wanted students to be more involved in this year play than las semesters and I wanted to contribute more in this play than last semester.
When writing, I try to gather as much information about the topic, I am getting ready to discuss before I start writing. What that does is it helps me get organized and have a greater understanding about what I will be writing. Not only do I try to gather as much information, I also try to organize myself and my writing by starting an outline to help me stay on topic. As a writer, I am not always as confident as I wish to be. Some improvements I hope to gather from taking this class is being able to keep my writing flowing and sounding efficient. When writing has positive flow and understanding, people are more likely to stay engaged in what they are reading. Transition words, phrases, and sentences is also something I would like to improve.
I feel that by taking this class it will help to not only get ready for the college that I plan to have in my future, but also my skills, no matter what, that will stay with me for the rest of my life. The effects will be not only short-term as I go through the rest of high school and eventually college, but will also follow me out for the rest of my life. Everyday we are using writing in one way or another, and the differences between good and bad writing skills are huge! This class is to prepare us for the writing portions of college and that is exactly what I am planning to take advantage of it for.
During my school year in BYU-Hawaii, I had 3 semesters every year. Each year, 3 semesters would arrange differently that helped me with different situations. It was tiring at my first year at BYU-Hawaii, but I think the short gap created better knowledge and memory of the knowledge from past semester. For example, I studied Education 312 which is a class introduce and teach us how to write lesson plan in one semester, and I took two other education major for my next semester. Those two education classes required the knowledge of making lesson plan. Because the gap between first and second semester is very close, I can easily recall what I have learned in EDU 312 class in order to make lesson plan for my other two education classes.
My expectations of my talents as a writer have increased tremendously after taking this class. When I read through my paper, or someone else's paper, it's not just words on a screen for me anymore. I can actually find grammatical errors, sentence fragments, and comma errors. This is a skill that I never possessed before taking this class. Even with how much I have grown as a writer from the beginning of the year, there is still room for improvement. On all my papers I had at least five small grammatical errors that would cost me
Over the course of this class, there were some successes and failures, I have grown as a writer, there were plenty of helpful resources, and it has helped prepare me for my future career. First, there were many successes for me this semester in English 112. I have never written more than one or two papers in one semester before starting my classes at JCC. Just writing more than one detailed paper is a big deal for me, because I tend to stress over hearing the words “3-4 page paper.” Another area that I had a hard time with before English 112 was MLA format, writing several papers throughout the semester helped me develop my knowledge and understanding about MLA format and even other formats, including APA.
During my day, I go to the classes that I always go. As usual, I stay silent and I do my work. Unlike the other classmates who usually talk constantly, I stay quiet. Some of my classmates find it weird that I don't talk much. In one of my honors classes, I feel like a misfit because I feel like I don't fit in with the others. They find me mysterious, almost like a freak. When I disagree with their ideas, I don't say anything because they'll think I'm the bad guy.
Middle school, eighth grade, second hour, English class. This was by far my hardest class that I faced in middle school. Before the first day of school I had heard mostly advice like how to survive a year in Ms. Greissinger’s class and the do’s and don’ts.
