Semester Reflection essay After almost completed my first semester successfully her at Arizona State University, I got educated in a variety of subjects from my classes, but the class the inspired my the most and had a great affect in the way I look to my career was the Student Success in Business class WPC 101. I remember the first day of this class where I was required to write an essay about My Sun Devil Store, and from that moment I knew that this class is going to be full of inspiring materials. I have experienced from my first semester her at ASU many circumstances not only challenging but also entertaining with regards to my classes. The biggest takeaway in this semester is finding my strong skills in Math and computer applications, and exploring more about my Supply Chain Management degree as well.
During my first semester as a business student, I have developed many skills and discovered new abilities within me. However, the most effective things that I knew me are three skills. First of all, I have learned that I have the capability to deal with stressful circumstances such as having projects, homework, assignment, and tests in the same day, and I have learned how to devote my time equally in order to be successful in my academics. Basically, I have developed my time management skills, which is going to help me in my future semester at ASU. Second of all, I discovered that I am doing extremely well here at ASU due to that fact that I found all of the courses that
When I first got accepted into Stuyvesant High School, I heard countless of rumors stating: “Oh the workload is terrible”, “The competition is so fierce” or “Out of schoolwork, extracurriculars, or sleep: you can only pick two.” I found it hard to let it faze me, since I graduated from one of the most prestigious middle schools. However, the rumors transformed into reality when I stepped into Mr. Nieves’ Freshman Composition Class. The workload at the beginning of the year was brutal, coupled with assignments from other core classes that seem unaware of the workload of other teachers. Reading assignments were a regular, and there were journal entries and occasional quizzes to keep us in line. What made it bearable was the friends I made in that class; everyone had their own opinion about the topic we were talking about, and listening to other perspectives really broadened my horizon and enriched my learning experience in Stuy. Another thing that this class has taught me is the importance of time management, a skill that I will carry on for the rest of my high school career and life. When I choose to sign up for Mr. Nieves’ AP American Literature class in my Junior Year, I was hoping to relive the discussion-based lesson plans and meet more outstanding peers. I was not disappointed, to say the least, reflecting through all the experiences at the end of the course. The lesson plans he laid out for us were an interesting mix between small lectures and class output, and what I
It is still so surreal to reflect back on my first semester as an incoming college student in the ENC1101 course, analyzing at my progression as a reader and writer in literacy. Since the first day of class I set in stone my goals for this class: receive a 4.0 GPA, develop my connecting theories skills in writing, and become more aware of objectives for each Unit throughout the course. All of these goals became achievements that not only make others proud but most importantly give me self pride. In order to earn the grades and achieve these goals, I went after every opportunity that I was given as an incoming college student, such as office hours and extra credit. By taking this course I have gained confidence with the utilization of literacy, and made an addition to my group of impactful literacy sponsors. Once students are finished with high school they assume that there is nothing else to learn beyond the stereotypical five paragraph essay, but they are so wrong. I was able to obtain so much knowledge about numerous course concepts from Writing about Writing, articles, and my professor. These concepts will carry on with me throughout a bright future of writing courses, job interviews, and any other skills that require literacy. The four outcomes listed below will help illuminate how I improved as a writer, by being a driven college student and going out of the way to earn my achievements in this course. In the first outcome I improved comprehending scholar texts,
Many people experience exclusion in their lives; yet, when they feel included, they experience the process of healing. In the memoir Coming Back Stronger: Unleashing the Power of Adversity, Dw Brees’ journey to healing is explored. This experience of exclusion to inclusion is also discussed in Becoming Human by Jean Vanier. The New Orleans Saints accepted Drew, a severely injured quarterback at the time, just as Jean Vanier accepted people with intellectual disabilities into L’Arche. Withal, Drew is given the opportunity to motivate and inspire his team, and those people included in the L’Arche community are given the opportunity to develop new, meaningful relationships. For Drew, having this opportunity results in a milestone for the whole team that represents hope for New Orleans, while the people with intellectual disabilities being able to be in an inclusive community result in the maturity of the heart. Both works suggest that being inclusive towards other people, especially those excluded in society, by welcoming them into a particular community result in a person’s internal and external healing.
As a Napa Valley College student, I’ve successfully taken several business-related courses in accounting, economics, business law, public speaking, and computer systems that are similar to courses I will be taking at the University of California. Despite rigorous course loads (16 units on average), I’ve found success in my courses using resources such as “Google Calendar” to help me time manage, forming study groups with classmates, and forming connections with instructors whom I’ve received academic support from. In addition, by experiencing success in my courses and grasping the concepts taught, I began using my knowledge to serve other students by volunteering to tutor in math, accounting and economics courses. By doing so, I’ve strengthened my understanding of the different concepts in those subjects and have successfully retained the information by reviewing it with others. Furthermore, I’ve taken
By being part of the Proposition for the topic of, “Schools All Year Round” was a challenging experience which allowed me to learn lots of new things, and improve on some other. In this reflection, I will be stating skills that I learned by doing this debate, skills that I improved upon, and some skills that I wasn’t able to change. Although, in the future, I hope to progress in the ones I did poor on.
As a first year at California State University San Marcos, I hope to continue life as a focused and active student until I have graduated and received my business degree. At CSUSM there are excellent and rigorous courses I will need to take to achieve my mission. With previous goals I obtained, tremendous amounts of hard work and dedication took place into the various functions demanded. Attending CSUSM will be nothing distant of labor and commitment after all I must hold a part time job as well as being a full time student to graduate. Although I am currently studying business, I do not know specifically what I am designing my career towards, nevertheless, finances and math has constantly acted as my strong suit. During the time that I continue
Incoming Freshmen reflecting on my first semester, some things that you might want to think about when coming into the High School. Teachers are one of the main concerns that I had when coming into the High School. Some people are nervous about oh are these good teachers or are these bad teachers. I do have to say there is a very wide variety of teachers here that have different standards. Also the schedule I advise that you try and memorize it as quick as you can. Once you memorize your schedule you are able to navigate the hallways much easier to navigate. It really helps when you want to get from point A to point B without getting a tardy. If your nervous about the work your going to be given wether its harder or if you given a lot more
I am attending my second year with Menlo College in Atherton, CA. My major is international management. This upcoming academic year is going to be busy but successful. This fall semester I am taking six classes that accumulates to
To ensure I complete the program successfully, I will put forth my best effort to be a proactive student: maintain a high grade point average, develop close relationship with professors and advisors, join student organizations and assume leadership roles, as well as building a strong network with like-minded students. Additionally, I will take advantage of tutoring, participating in study groups, and most importantly, managing my time effectively. By utilizing the resources of the university, I will be able to attain a graduate degree in business administration, achieve intellectual growth, and advance professionally. Upon successful completion of my master’s degree, I will be able to apply essential business strategies necessary to launch my
While studying in College of the albemarle I have learned many things about business and other courses. I always payed attention in my business classes and tried to learned as much as I could. I did very well in those classes getting either A or a B. This semester will be my last, but i want to continue
Last year, my interest in the Business program intensified, so I signed up for three business prerequisites (MGMT200, ACCTG215, and ECON200) because I didn’t want to fall behind others on the business track. Throughout the quarter I realized this was a misstep as these classes were extremely demanding, making it difficult for me to excel in any one class. This taught me to be more proactive in planning out my classes. Thus, I immediately met with a business school advisor, Andrew Marzano, to discuss and plan my class schedule for the next two years. Armed with a plan to break up my workload into manageable chunks, I have been able to rise to the challenges posed by this year’s classes. I also identified resources that would strengthen my study skills such as the Writing Center and EUB Tutoring Center. Because I spent this time planning my curriculum, though my second year was challenging, I was better prepared. As a result, I have performed much better and in the coming years, I will continue to catalyze on my success and refine my decision-making skills so that I can become an accomplished ambassador of the Foster School of
I can make a commitment to the lab fall and spring semesters, as well as future semester. I would like to start working Fall semester.
When I began this course and I completed the first writing assignment and the first observation, I was not sure what I was supposed to achieve and what I was supposed to observe. After the third essay and the third observation, which are linked down below, I was able to understand more what the purpose of the class was. Through the observations, I was able to take what I learned about biological, cognitive, and psychosocial development and see them in the children that I currently work with. Before this class, I believed children misbehaved because they wanted attention. After this course and through the observations and essays I was better able to understand that people, specifically children, are more complex than I
Without a doubt the lessons and exercises on time management were the most meaningful to me. They brought insight into why I seemed to be constantly working yet still never really got anything I wanted to accomplish throughout the day finished. I realized the majority of the activities I had been spending the most time on didn’t reflect my values of hard work and self discipline and long term academic goals to be successful in college. This motivated to completely change the way I managed my time by effectively striking a balance between my maintenance, committed, and free time.
Throughout my life, there have been many failed attempts at persuasion due to unsuccessful rhetoric. One of these moments occurred during an interview for the acceptance into a CNA class I was interested in. I was being interviewed by the coordinator of the class who was asking me questions about previous experiences. There were questions asking about times I had worked with a team, times I made mistakes during a jobs, how coworkers would describe me, things I did to make others feel comfortable, and much more. The answers to these questions were used as a way to persuade the interviewer into accepting me into the class. In order to make a successful argument, it would have been useful to know the values of this audience. Values of the interviewer and of the class included having some patient care experience, learning from past experiences, being able to showcase feelings of comfort and kindness, and being able to begin working as soon as the class was complete. Although I had these values in mind, I was unable to express them in a persuading way. The appeal I relied on for this interview was logos, which did not benefit me in the end. I answered the interviewer’s questions with a list of all the things I have done and not how these things have changed me. This led to me not being accepted into the class, showcasing my failed attempt at persuasion.
