Imagine a 12th grade student sitting in class looking miserable, tired, and annoyed. Looking around, one notices her mood seems to spread and show up in other students. One by one each person in the class changes. They snap at each other, turn work in late, put in half effort, and don’t pay attention. Teachers notice it, parents notice it, and even the students notice it. The cause of this lack of interest is simple, senioritis. While senioritis isn’t considered a serious sickness it has only one cure, graduation. Senioritis is a sickness that most seniors experience at least once in their lifetime where a student is done with school and have mentally checked out before the year has come to an end. A person stops putting in effort and stops caring because they are simply tired of the whole idea of school. …show more content…
The first part,“senior”, refers to a student, high school or college, who is in their final year of school. This particular type of student is usually the oldest and most experienced in the school or university. These people are the ones who have stuck around the longest, and are most drained from being there. Students in this category are so close to graduation, they can practically feel it. The second part of the word is, “itis”. Itis is a suffix that refers to a type of disease or sickness. It is put at the end of a word to say one is sick. So when putting the two words together, it basically means senior sickness or sick of being a senior. Senior year is supposed to be the best of all the years. It's the year to relax and look forward to the future, but when a person develops a case of senioritis, the year goes by much slower and seems much more challenging than it actually
I cant believe that I am finally a senior in high school it seems just like yesterday I was beginning high school. As I begin my final year I am beginning to realize that this year I will be faced with many responsibilities and will make tons of memories. But I hope that I am able to make my senior year the best yet. Through this final year I hope to have passing grades in all of my classes, to win pep rallies, and to have perfect attendance.
I wish to be a member of the National Junior Honor (community of people/all good people in the world) because to be a member of this famous/respected organization means so much to mejust to be invited to be one of its members. I would love to be a member of this (community of people/all good people in the world) because all of my life I have lived by a standard of nothingless than the best and I think by being in this organization it will continue my trip of excellence. All of the activities I have ever participated in I have not done for recognition or praise, the gradesI have received I have not done for recognition. I have just done it because I believe that successcomes before work only in the dictionary. The places I am trying to go and
Nothing else really matters to the teenagers at the time because high school is all they really know. Senioritis plants a poison in senior’s minds that they don’t feel something is necessary to them. The poison injected by senioritis stings of change. Although there is nothing wrong with high school, seniors begin to feel dead. They don’t find the excitement of attending high school anymore. Senioritis can be contagious; it gets to the best of the seniors out there. Without realizing it, seniors mentally begin preparing to leave their lives as they know them for change. Seniors don’t really comprehend why they suddenly resent high school, but they do. They are bored with it. High school becomes dreadful to the seniors, and they just want out. Senioritis makes seniors anxious to get out of the boring, humdrum lives they lead and move on to bigger and better things, though they tend to have no idea what those bigger and better things may
from Urban Dictionary, senioritis causes the student to become more lethargic, care less about appearance and grades, and have a bad attitude towards school. Students start with being careless and then their grades start falling along with their GPA. After grades comes excessive sweat pants wearing and a horrible attitude is protruded towards school. This sickness can ruin a student’s final year. All of these symptoms are real like those of a real disease, they can be seen and felt. Seniors feel all of these symptoms and diagnose themselves with this illness and really start showing their carelessness towards their high school or college career. Once seniors get senioritis the symptoms flood in without warning and take over the
I am applying to be a Resident Advisor to be able to get the opportunity to be apart of the East Carolina welcoming committee for new students moving in. I want to help make sure that the students staying in the dorms are safe and comfortable with their living arrangements. As a freshman, I know that living away from home and starting college can be tough. I want to be able to create a home away from home for them to feel comfortable in. I communicate effectively, I am approachable, and a leader. These qualities I say best describe me as a person. By having great communication skills it will help me as an RA to effectively communicate to people that live in the dorms about rules and regulations. Also by having great communication skills, I
It took me at least 5 minutes to form this simple first sentence. I could not think of a creative way to start my essay. Every time I wanted to think quietly, my mind drifted away. Why? Unfortunately, I am suffering from a common disease known as “senioritis.”
Senior citizens are the people who are most likely to take multiple medications due to the occurring chronic conditions as the aging process continues. Given the several medicines they take, they are ironically the age group that is very much sensitive to medication side effects, both therapeutic and negative.
Senior year is where students face many real life, difficult decisions, staying up and being out late, becoming extremely tired and much less motivated than the average student. Unmotivated and tired seniors are given their very own term: senioritis. In a high school survey in North Carolina, 78% of the school's seniors say they believe they have senioritis and struggle with focusing and staying motivated (Omniscient). Senioritis is a growing mental illness that high school seniors face. More and more high schools are recognizing that students are not doing as well as they
Senioritis is a common issue across American schools today and can have many different intensities that come along with it. The main cause of such an event is the loss of motivation, especially one who may already know what they are doing for future endeavors such as college or having an awesome job plan lined up for themselves. Everything from just wanting to graduate high school already, to truly despising the building you are locked up in all fall under what senioritis truly represents. Within Woodstock Union High School, whose numbers are slightly less than 400 students, one can see how broad of a spectrum this whole issue has become today.
When I think of a senior project, I think of an educational opportunity that help students obtain adult-like skills, interests, and hopefully, maturity. Also, it’s a form of expression for most students, because it’s their chance where they can show and demonstrate what they’ve accomplished throughout their experience with their topic. As I mentioned before, it helps students obtain interests but also helps them acknowledge others and expand their minds to new possibilities or opportunities. I also think that senior projects are beneficial for a student's future because if they worked hard enough on their topic, and chose to pursue it as a career, they could have their senior project as a listed experience to set them aside from other applicants. Even
Suddenly Senioritis hits students like a freight train. Why would a student who planned on being a English major or a lawyer even want to think about taking a calculus class? Is there a reason for a future college professor to be taking classes on animal sciences? Seniors begin to get a sense of frustration that they were led to believe that those classes were needed. This realization will cause seniors to skip classes they don’t like. We start to count down the days until graduation, like how middle school kids would count down the seconds before the final bell would ring in the last class of the day. The clocks seem to be slowed down, as time drags on for the seniors who just want to move on with their lives. High school classes just don’t seem to hold seniors’ interests after senioritis
As the school year is about to end, students, especially seniors, are excited for graduation. However, senioritis is so common that some seniors might face difficulties getting full credits in every classes if they missed school a lot and did not have enough credits for their graduation plan. So, it will be nice to know what to do and not to do throughout high school years.
Older adults in Lincoln, Nebraska, will find that participating in recreational activities will help to enhance their quality of life. It'll also satisfy an array of needs from improving their health and fitness as well as giving them the chance to socialize. Here are five exciting local activities that will enrich a senior's life:
Senioritis entails the increase of laziness and the decrease of motivation. These students often wear an excessive amount of sweatpants and sweatshirts because putting on real clothes requires effort. The lack of studying and unexcused absences becomes the cause of declining grades. These students usually have a dismissive attitude and can’t be bothered with anything or anyone.
During my senior year of high school, I had the opportunity to become a Junior Ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce of Walker County. Being a Junior Ambassador for this organization was a great experience. It taught me how to be responsible, hardworking, and has prepared me to hopefully become a Bevill State Ambassador if I get the opportunity. Based on my experience as a Junior Ambassador, if I had the chance to change anything in Walker County, I would change the fact that there is not as much community involvement as many would hope for. Being involved in the community is something that I strive to do. My generation is becoming the face of tomorrow. I think it is very important to show the people of my generation what it is like to serve
