MAKALA: I also believe in taking test in an orderly fashion. Sequence is a pattern that I need to succeed in life. Nevertheless, I would strongly recommend that you let your other patterns came to place, not truly depend on your sequence. It is okay to skip the first question and move to the next and also when completing any writing assignment, it is great that you ask a lot of questions to obtain the right information. You should let your confluence play a part as well, you will examine the assignment, you will come up better ideas ultimately your paper won’t lack originality. It is okay to trust your instinct and to try different approaches so you don’t get “stuck.” JOHN: You gave way too much information which confused your family and …show more content…
I understand that you are a “grease monkey” but rely truly on your technical reasoning pattern is the reason you didn’t receive a more favorable grade. Let your imagination go wild. RAHEEM: I am also a risk taker and there is nothing wrong with that. However, when it comes to academics it requires focus, dedication and determination. Raheem, you will need a plan to follow and ask the appropriate questions to obtain the right information for your research paper. You should also take different tactic on your school, you don’t need to be the entertainer in the group, and you should contribute more of your ideas into the project. List two critical reading strategies and two critical writing strategies from Chapter 3 and/or the Instructor Guidance that could help you approach college-level reading and writing with greater intention and include your LCI scores The two critical reading strategies that could help me in my college-level reading are precision and sequence. When I first entered english composition 1101, I expected this course to be manageable. As an outstanding english student at Clarke Central high school, I believed that I had enough knowledge to excel in this course with no challenges. Dr. Catherine Rogers was able to knock me off of my high horse and make me realize that I has a lot more to learn about reading and writing. She is very comprehensive and analytical, which caused her to give me a c average on my midterm assignments. I put the blame on myself because I believe that I should have been more open to Dr. Rogers’ methods with pre-writing and revision. Now I think highly of reading and writing.
A freshman college level English Composition course aims to improve students' abilities with writing, critical thinking, mechanics and usage, punctuation, grammar, and vocabulary. By studying English 101 at Luzerne County Community College, I will work diligently to improve in all of these aspects. My main focus is to develop skills specifically to create clear and concise thesis statements, strong and persuasive essays with cajolement, and to develop different perspectives on narratives and other essays. These writing skills may also improve my critical thinking and reading skills.
Advancing in my critical thinking skills is as important as my writing skills. I have to take the appropriate steps in continuing to engage the readers throughout the writing process. Writing is crucial as a student and everyday life because it is a form of communication. I will utilize the necessary resources to assist me in applying the lessons being instructed for completion of each assignment in accordance with the University guidelines. Allowing myself to create an outline for the topic before the rough draft is setting
Writing properly can be very challenging for a new student embarking on being a scholarly, professional writer. Before starting assignments, it is important to read very broadly about the main topics of the assignment, and also read the specific chapters listed in the assignment, because they will guide a student’s thoughts in developing a paper.
The purpose of this assignment is to give you an opportunity to apply some of the critical reading strategies you have evaluated.
a big component of reading is knowing the conventions, recognizing them, and anticipating the results
What is the Writing process? The writing process is what you will need to go by when writing for essays and future classes.I have included a few tips throughout this template to help you get started. • You will need to identify the components of a basic sentence.• You will need to be able to identify the four most serious writing errors.• Define subject-verb agreement.• Identify common errors in subject-verb agreement.• Recognize regular and irregular verbs• Use regular and irregular verbs correctly in basic sentences.
Before taking on the challenge of critical reading, writing, and researching, I would like to
Critical reading for this class comes easily. Reading the chapter, highlighting certain points and writing notes helps to understand the content. The topics mentioned thus far have all been fairly easy to grasp, especially since they are familiar topics but as time progresses and the reading become more in depth, this strategy will be increasingly more helpful. Critical reading is always a struggle but hopefully this class, with all of the assigned reading, will help teach how to properly read a textbook, fully understanding each and every phrase mentioned. While reading a textbook, it is easy to get distracted and forget everything that was just read, by taking notes and highlighting while reading, it is easier to grasp the information given. Being able to stay focused and be more insightful throughout this class is a definite growing
When it comes to critical thinking, reading and writing are two factors that deal with the critical thinking process. A few key aspects of critical reading and writing are identifying the tone in ones writing, how to throughly read and annotate a text, and the revision process. In the essay, “The Maker’s Eye”, Donald Murray explains how the attitude of a writer, listening to what readers have to say and how to edit your own writing makes your work better when critically thinking in college. These aspects of critical thinking, reading and writing make will keep the reader interested and make the writing easier to translate when read.
On Monday, we did the Writing 10 diagnostic test where we wrote a response to an article that talked about how students don’t summarize, but rather copy and paste quotes which shows students aren’t fully engaging with the text. On Wednesday, we began class by getting our diagnostic writing back and Ms. Maharaj began going over general things she saw happen in our writing from the diagnostic test. After going over the diagnostic test we played two truths and a lie to get to know everyone in the class a little better. Through this game everyone was able to meet everyone and learn something interesting about them. Lastly, we ended Wednesday by talking about the steps to take to think critically when reading articles. These steps included analyzing the argument the author(s) make, what evidence does the author give and do they consider opposing arguments, what is the authors stance and if they are objective in their response, and does the sources support/ challenge your
Additionally, students will learn how to: “read texts critically,” analyze writing, respond in a constructive and professional manner, and “evaluate sources and integrate the ideas of others into their own writing” (Rhetorical Choices 2-3).
Our 2nd goal in composition 1 dealt with critical reading strategies. One way I did this was the reading logs we kept for our books we read. For the book “Anthem”, I wrote down quotes and was then able to use or reference them for my paper “Broken Chains”. Another way I did this was making outlines for my papers. For the argumentative essay, I made an outline which gave me the ability to stay organized with my thoughts while I was typing. The third way I did was writing down main points about what I read or watched. When we did the Career Research Paper I wrote a couple paragraphs down about each source to use in my paper to insure that I was using accurate and relevant information.
However, my progress as a reader has significantly improved and changed during this semester. First, I learned to improve my critical reading skills through the in-class reading assignments. My professor provided very useful help in assigning us the first reading response question: “Summarize the main ideas of the reading assignment. What questions do you have?” I think that a combination of being able to understand, summarize what the text says as well as interpret its meanings is a helpful approach one can apply to better his or her critical reading skills. Therefore, I have applied this approach to any reading I had for this class and I am still using it for other classes as well. Secondly, I changed my reading habit after the third essay in which I chose a research topic in my discipline to write about. While doing the research, I noticed that I was also encouraged to become familiar with many different subjects in my discipline. The essay assignment was to pick a topic that I am personally interested in writing about. Coincidently, this was also one of the goals that I listed on the first class writing “read articles and
This course has expanded my knowledge and view of reading and writing vastly. Following each paper, reading, and class discussion I learned more about myself as a student, and the world as a whole. I have found the books Rules for Writers and Ways of Reading thoroughly helpful throughout the course. This class entails a variety of aspects of the problem-posing concept of education; it truly involves the students and teaches them to think, read, and write individualistically, analytically, and clearly.
