The highest concern for the article is identifying and treating child abuse, and survivors with a given respect to different cultures. It is important to understand that every culture is different in handling the treatment of their children. “If identifications and interventions with these families and their children are to be appropriate and successful, professionals must communicate effectively with one another and be consistent in the messages they are giving to the families” (Westby, 2007).
Sexual abuse is a prevalent crime that can have numerous short and long term effects on a victim. It describes as any form sexual activity that is accomplished by force or threat where consent is not given. This includes rape, molestation, incest, and other similar forms of non-consensual sexual contact. The effects of sexual abuse are not the same for every victim, victims may feel varied responses and emotions that can depend on own situations. The act of abuse may had happened a long time ago or be more recent.
Sexual abuse constitutes a serious violation of children’s rights and human dignity. Sexual abuse occurs when a person uses their power over a child, and involves the child in any sexual act. The power of the abuser lies in their age, advantage, superiority of intellectual or physical development, or in a relationship of authority with
Carers in Oban house care home in Croydon were recorded in around 2012 to be ignoring bedridden 98-year-old Yvonne Grant cries for help for2 ½ hours despite her calling for assistance 321 times including 45 requests to be taken to the toilet. When a carer finally acknowledged her cries, she told Yvonne to use incontinence pads which was something that Yvonne wasn’t comfortable with doing. Staff then tried to make her walk to the toilet but when she was unable to; they dropped her roughly back on to the bed. Yvonne had been living in the care home since 2010 and during the last years of her life her family began to worry about the quality of care that she was receiving with staff ignoring any concerns that the family had. The family also stated that there was something incorrect with staffs attitudes and quality of nursing. Yvonne’s granddaughter Vanessa Evans hid a camera in her room on three occasions after concerns about bruising on Yvonne’s hands and making mistakes with medication. When the family revealed that they had been recording the abuse and neglect they stated that she gave up on life two days after. Yvonne died in January 2013 due to the lack of care she received. The family passed the video evidence on to the CQC who then launched an investigation.
The reported concern is a sexual abuse incident that reportedly occurred between the subject child and a person who is not considered legally responsible for her. An LER was submitted; CPS is to contact NYPD to obtain information regarding their investigation as well as the possible need for a CAC appointment.

Our society is caught in a struggle to do what is right for the victims of sexual abuse. The publics opinion of what is considered sexual abuse can vary, as does the laws of the states making up the United States. It is a little confusing, to me, how being considered an adult in one state does not guarantee that the same individual would be treated the same way in another state. But it is a fact of life, the laws are different. Merriam Webster dictionary defines sexual intercourse with a person who is below the statutory age of consent as statutory rape. The age that a person can legally give consent to sexual intercourse varies between states. In the state that I live in, North Carolina, the legal age of consent is 16 years of or older. The
Sexual abuse is very common throughout the entire world. It happens to everyone, male or female. Sexual abuse is considered a crime. What is sexual abuse? How do you prevent it from happening? Or what to do if you were ever assaulted? Many people ask themselves these questions when hearing or talking about sexual abuse.
The third distinctive argument is that sexual abuse puts teens at risk for teen pregnancy. When someone is sexually assaulted they usually do not report it in fear of what others may say or think of them. As a child, children are unaware of whats right from wrong putting them at a higher risk to be abused. Under-aged children tend to suffer sexual abuse from someone closer to them like a parent, aunt/uncle, sibling, or even a babysitter. Because children do not know that any form of touching someone who does not consent to it is sexual abuse they tend to suffer from abuse longer. Researchers Boyer and Fine (1992) have argued that the trauma of sexual victimization may harm normal developmental process. As these children grow older and
The proposed research is into the experience of women using nature therapy to heal trauma from sexualized assault or abuse.
Imagine looking around at the people in a room with you and realizing that almost half of them may have experienced some form of intimate partner abuse during their lifetime. This could well be the case, with the Word Health Organization reporting that globally, one in three women experience intimate partner physical violence in their lifetime (García-Moreno et al., 2013). In the United States, 31.5% of women and 27.5% of men experience intimate partner physical violence in their lifetime (Breiding, 2011). These figures are even more staggering when psychological abuse is included. In the United States, 47.1% of women and 46.5% of men have experienced psychological abuse in their lifetime (Breiding, 2011).
Rachel is faced with the effects of a sexual assault attack, lack of trust by formal supports, and an insufficient support system. The most time-sensitive issue of the three is the effects of a sexual assault attack; however, they all affect one another. Because of the university police’s resistance to effectively assist Rachel, the conclusion can be made that Rachel may not accept any type of university assistance.
According to the American Psychological Association (APA), Sexual abuse is “unwanted sexual activity, with perpetrators using force, making threats or taking advantage of victims not able to give consent. Most victims and perpetrators know each other. Immediate reactions to sexual abuse include shock, fear or disbelief. Long-term symptoms include anxiety, fear or post-traumatic stress disorder. While efforts to treat sex offenders remain unpromising, psychological interventions for survivors — especially group therapy — appears effective” (American Psychological Association).
I just finish watching a movie that brought up so many memories of my past. The memories were not about my sexual abuse as a child but the feelings and actions I took on myself after the abuse. The confusion and the anger that bled with me every step I made, and how I forgot who I was to became someone unrecognizable. Its like something died inside me and I was transformed completely into this unrestrained and lifeless person.
