On July 28, 2017, I went to South Pointe Cleveland clinic hospital to do my shadowing experience. I shadowed a registered nurse in PCCU (Progressive Cardiac Care Unit), on the fifth floor in the patient’s hall. While in there I got a chance to see the actual duties and responsibilities of a nurse. A typical work day of a registered nurse in PCCU is sharing information and report about the patient from the previous nurse who is in charged with the patient, monitor patient’s health status, give them medication, chart the patient’s assessment, etc. having a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and CPR certified is required to be qualified to be able to do this career. The best part of my shadow was when the nurse, Bernie, and I was preparing the medicines for the patients and seeing the patients doing well. There was this one patient that every time the nurse would move her, she would scream in pain. It was very hard for me to see those things, that I just choose to close my eyes and clutch my hand because I am not used on seeing people in pain. It breaks my heart seeing those people in pain; especially when I can’t do anything to help them. The thing that surprised me the most about my shadow experience was it takes a lot of compassion, understanding, and heart to be a nurse. It takes a lot to put up things to do this kind of job, such as, physical work, math, critical thinking, and it test your patience and understanding as a person. It takes a lot of emotions that you need to deal with every time you see the patients pain as well as, keeping and holding your own emotions in check. If I have more time, I would like to shadow again on a different kind of nurse. I want to explore the different types of profession of a registered nurse, for me to identify what kind of type of a nurse I am suited. My experience has been great while it
