Abortion has been an ongoing issue for many years and over the years this issue has grown in importance. This issue is widely argued over many subjects and like many other aspects of the human life, this is an issue which is definitely up for open interpretation. If the word abortion isn’t clear than here is a little definition of it, "the termination of pregnancy and expulsion of an embryo or of a fetus that is incapable of survival." I don’t think that because a fetus is unborn, that fetus does not have any rights, actually that organism is in development meaning it should hold equal human rights, again it is definitely up for debate. Abortion is a subject which could be considered as a debatable gray area in life which no matter how much is argued will never be clear as to what really is right or wrong. There are many people out there, me included, would go against abortion because we believe that it is a form of murder because even though the organism is helpless is nonetheless a living organism forming to become a human being. There are those who would argue against this and say that it is ok to abort an unborn baby and that a woman has the right to choose what she does with her body and anything which grows and lives inside of her. If she claims that she is not fit to bring a life form into the world than they would argue that abortion is the best way to go without any hesitation. A few questions come up when this issue comes up for debate, for example is abortion
In Gwendolyn Brooks’ poem “the Mother” the entire theme was based on abortion. A mother was not emotionally or mentally ready to have children, so she did what needed to be done; she aborted. This poem was written in 1945 and still today’s society still has objections on pro-choice. On January 22, 1973 the US Supreme Court ruled that abortion is a fundamental right that was guaranteed by the US Constitution. In short terms the ruling stated that a woman, with her doctor, could have the option to end her pregnancy. This ruling made abortion legal in the United States which seemed to be a relief for some and others a restraint. Abortion has been a controversial issue in the United States for years. There are one of two sides that can be chosen in this debate; pro-life or pro-choice. Those who believe in pro-life consider abortion as intentionally murdering a human being. In contrast to the advocates, you have the opponents, who believe abortion is not the same as murder that it is here to help not hinder a woman. Having an abortion is a huge decision to be made. The word abortion itself means to remove the fetus from the uterus before it is able to survive on its own. The question that still stirs up an audience still remains “should abortion be legal?”
Is a fetus actually a “person” with full moral standing? Not that a fetus doesn’t matter, but is a fetus a person with a right to life over an existing person with full moral standing? I do not believe that it is, but I do not believe it is morally permissible or should even be legal in all cases to receive an abortion. A fetus may not be a person with full moral standing, but it is a potential person with a potential right to life. An abortion is only morally permissible and should be legal if it is justified significantly by reasons such as the child has a severe defect that would cause illness and a short painful life, rape, or to save the mother’s life. A fetus at any stage of pregnancy does not have the significant moral right over a woman making the woman to carry the fetus to term if her reasoning is justified. It should be legal for a woman to receive an abortion at any stage of pregnancy only if justified. A woman is a person with full moral standing who’s right over her body, including the right to defend one 's body, outweighs the right of a potential person’s right to life.
A topic that is still under much debate is whether or not women should have the right to an abortion. This is a constitutional right that all women must have in order for everyone to have true equal rights. The two sides of this debate argue whether or not the fetus is “alive,” whether abortion is ever necessary, and whether or not the procedure has negative consequences. While the “pro-life” side focuses mostly on the interpretation of the definition of life, “pro-choice” advocates stress the importance of women’s rights. A woman should always have control over her body without having to give a reason.
The controversial issue within United States to be discussed is whether or not abortion should be legal. The issue originated from the case Roe vs Wade; henceforth abortion is now a fundamental right recognized by the US Supreme Court. Top current debates today from proponents and opponents are: pregnant women will resort to unsafe illegal abortions if there is no legal option and it is a fundamental human right for the women to choose. Many suggest there are better alternatives such as adoption, and abortion is wrong because killing a fetus demeans the value of human life. Primary advocates who support abortion are identified as pro-choice; they contend that abortion is a human right that should not be limited by governmental or religious authority. Those against abortion are identified as pro-life;they assert life begins at conception and fetuses are innocent human being entitled to human rights. Within the United States, Abortion should be a pregnant woman 's choice for their well-being and safeness, restrictions interfering with unintended pregnant woman 's freedom, and for the overall well-fare of the fetus if it were to born.
On January 22, 1973, the freedom of women to make the decision to have an abortion was deemed legal after the Roe v. Wade trial. (Stewart) Since this trial, many people have voiced their opinions about whether or not abortion should be legal. Though abortion is safe for mothers, painless for the fetus and allows women to wait for the right time to have a child, it is not always accessible to women. By making abortion more accessible and less judgment based, the amount of unwanted pregnancies will decrease all while keeping the mother safe during this process.
Abortion, I believe has always been and will continue to be a very controversial subject. Abortion has been argued continuously over the past years and will always be a topic that is going to get people on their high horse. Abortion is defined as the termination of a human pregnancy, typically done before the embryo or fetus is capable of life. Basically a medical procedure done to end the unwanted pregnancy and the cause of death of the fetus. The most asked question is should abortion be legal? When it comes to the topic of abortion, there are two sides to this topic, Pro-life and the Pro-Choice side. Those who are against abortion entirely are considered to be pro-life, and those who believe it is the woman’s right to choose between keeping the baby or terminating the pregnancy are pro-choice. The solution to individuals who are for pro-life is to have the child and give it up for adoption, or raise it. On the contrary the solution to individuals who are pro-choice is only that of abortion. The solution of abortion is considered ethically wrong and should be illegal because there are consequences for both the mother and the child resulting from an abortion. About 10% of women who are having an abortion suffer instant complications, potentially life-threatening. The rates of women’s death from various causes after abortion are 3.5 times higher than after giving birth, and that’s scary to think that you could have so many complications to cause you to die. People think that
Even though many people have negative opinions on abortions, legal abortion is a necessity women should have access to because women who do not have access to an abortion can experience more stress than if she was able to have one and many women need to have abortions for unwanted pregnancies or due to concern for the mother’s and/or baby 's health. In 1972, the Roe v. Wade supreme court case legalize abortion nationwide, but since then states have passed laws to restrict the availability of abortions. In some states they now require counseling and waiting periods before you can receive an abortion. Legal abortion is a safe procedure and has less risk of complications. Many clinics, including planned parenthood, are opened around the
One of the most sustained debates over time has been whether to legalize or not to legalize abortion. While some individuals remain hostile towards any move to legalize abortion, others citing a wide range of reasons strongly support the legalization of the same. In my opinion, abortion remains inherently wrong and there can never exist any justification whatsoever to warrant its legalization.
As more laws are formed concerning basic human rights, this nation is certainly progressing quicker than others, but not quick enough. Activists are constantly battling to secure protection, equality, and resources for every community. We know they’re succeeding as issues, such as gay marriage, are being addressed and are close to being secured. One topic that is continuously being debated, and slowly making progress, is women’s health; more specifically, abortion rights. Granted, abortion is legal in the United States since Roe vs Wade in 1973 however, the law is constantly being targeted by conservative politicians and states. Their strategy has changed throughout the years. Instead of aiming to illegalize abortion, they are focusing on strictly regulating eligibility. For a nation that prides itself on freedom, there are still those who strive to limit and regulate women’s choices. Gender equality will not be achieved if women cannot have full control of their own bodies. Organizations such as Planned Parenthood, not only provide crucial services to sustain a safe and healthy lifestyle, but also advocate on behalf of those who are incapable of doing so. Such organizations should be encouraged and supported, instead of condemned.
Since almost the beginning of time, abortion has been something that is considered very taboo in our society. Many people do not like to discuss it or share their views on it to spare the feelings or judgement of others. However, it is a very important topic that deserves to have more light shed on it as well as have more supporters be open and outspoken about it. Abortion can be a tough topic for many to talk about due to their own personal experiences or life choices. However what is not so difficult is to simply make others aware that it is a pressing issue around them. As Lao Tzu said, “Do the difficult things while they are easy and do the great things while they are small. A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single
In Australia, there are a wide variety of opinions on abortion, and if it should be still legal. Many believe it’s wrong to kill, or medically known, terminate a growing baby, however, many also have the opinion that it should be a woman 's choice and abortion is fine to pursue. In 2010, 294,814 women gave birth to 299,563 babies in Australia. With the mean age of the women giving birth being 32 years old (Homebirth Australia, 2011). The laws of abortion are unique in every state of Australia, with the strictest laws being within South Australia and Northern Territory. Furthermore, pregnancy/birth may be dangerous for the mother, or the baby is unwanted by the parent from errors with contraception or even rape. It was founded by Better Health Victoria that over 5% of sexually active students that have had sexual intercourse, have resulted in unwanted pregnancy. Should abortion be available to everyone no matter how they were impregnated? Or should it be made illegal and only used for extreme cases?
Abortion is a personal matter and is a very sacred and sensitive topic. The deliberate termination of a human pregnancy is what we know of as an abortion. Although abortion is considered to be immorally wrong to some people, it should be a fundamental right for women to control their own bodies.
According to Operation Rescue, “There are approximately 1.21 million abortions in America each year”. Abortion is wrong because you are killing a baby that has no control on the choices you are making. You don’t have to take a babies life if you aren’t ready to have your own child. I think abortion should be illegal because to many people are having abortions for no reason because they can’t handle being a parent. That’s not right, if you can’t handle it then you should use protected so it doesn’t happen to you. Abortion is when the pregnancy is ended so that it does not result in the birth of a child. There are also two ways to do abortions that are the abortion pill and the surgical abortion.
Abortion stirs up a debate when questioned whether or not it should be legal. It is proven by law that a women's right to abort a child is a "Fundamental right". This right was decided in the famous landmark case Roe V. Wade which remains the law of the land. People who are con abortion believe that the baby is still a human being and it has a fundamental right to life so therefore abortion should not be allowed. Many resources states abortion is the killing of another human being. While others believe abortion helps the lives of young parents in today's society. "Those who oppose abortion generally believe that human life begins at the moment of conception, when a sperm fertilized an egg." Some would disagree and say that only when the baby is developed is when it is considered taking a life. It is said that abortion helps women effected by sexual assault or incest.Woman who have been sexually assaulted turn to abortion to help them forget about the attack. Without abortion victims would have to look at the child created and re live the moments of the attack. So if a female is raped and doesn't want to have the baby they usually see abortion as the only option. It is also said that abortion may cause medical, as well as, psychological problems later on in life. There are many different options other then abortion for example, adoption. Instead of aborting an innocent life you can put the baby up for adoption so that when the baby is born it is given proper care. Adoption is
Teenage pregnancy has become a norm in America. Sex education is gradually losing significance among the youth. Despite the wide range of contraceptives, many young women are continually getting pregnant. Additionally, the number of young boys and girls ruining their lives at an early stage as a result of quick moments of pleasure is alarming. Moreover, the advancement in technology is an increasingly contributing factor to the high rates of teenage pregnancy (Garfield 34). Numerous strategies have been put in place to advocate for the need to abstain until marriage, but all that has been in vain. As a result, young women need to be granted the choice to safely abort an unwanted child and not have to worry about other obscure ways to free themselves from this baggage (Jabour 54).
