Athletes should be drug tested before they are allowed to play
Athletes should be drug tested before they are allowed to play because it is illegal and many athletes abuse drugs due to the belief that drugs will enhance performance performance. Really the drug just helps them for that one time then they are affected by the drug for the rest of their life. Are you willing to risk your life, and your career
Athletes should be drug tested before they are allowed to play because of athletes like Marion Jones. Did you know that Marion Jones an Olympic athlete that won five olympic medals admitted to using steroids? She won all five medals in one olympic game. She was sentenced to six months of prison, two years of probation, 800 hours of community service and her three gold medals and two bronze medals were stripped. All because she

According to my research like Marion Jones he denied taking the drug but when he was drug tested he tested positive he was suspended from NASCAR. Soon a federal judge got involved and said there was a flaw in NASCAR’s drug test system so he didn’t get suspended. But when he was tested again in July after NASCAR fixed the flaw, he tested positive again. He got suspended for sure that time. Did you know that the famous American Olympic swimmer, Michael Phelps, who has the most olympic gold medals than anyone in history was caught smoking marijuana in 2009? Sorry for getting off topic. Meth probably caused him to have nausea, diarrhea and aggressiveness. Nausea and diarrhea won't be a good thing if he was going to drive that long. Him being aggressive is really dangerous. He may cause people unwanted crashes just because he was under the influence of the drug. If Jeremy didn’t get suspended from NASCAR many people may have been injured or
Not only do drugs effect relationships, but they also cause consequences for the individual taking them. Playing a sport and using drugs are prohibited. By drug testing student athletes for prohibited drugs, they will know not to use them or there will be consequences that will occur. Some consequences may include a warning, a detention, a suspension, not being able to play a couple of games or not being to play sports ever again. “Maysville's plan also includes a suspension and removal process based on how many times student-athletes violate its drug policy. That process includes counseling, which is a critical part of keeping our children off drugs,” (More Schools Should Drug-test Athletes). It may be expensive to conduct all the drug tests ,but it will prevent athletes from doing drugs and keep the athlete away from getting addicted to using drugs. When an athlete gets addicted to using a drug they will do whatever they
Is doing drugs to enhance one's muscles worth the health risks it might cause? Why would anyone want to give themselves a bad reputation? Who would want to be known for cheating in sports? Although some people believe drug testing is an invasion of privacy, it may just save the athletes from injury. Athletes should be drug tested. Using steroids while playing a sport is counted as cheating, as their improvement comes from drugs. Athletes doing drugs not only gives them, but the team too a bad reputation. Drugs it could affect their long-term health.
More muscles, more money? The bigger you are, the bigger the lies? Drug testing in sports is a significant issue, even though people don’t take it as serious as they should. This happens because players in sports either don’t have knowledge about steroids, or they feel the need to make themselves look bigger. The problem is when they do take this drug, the players get away with it, and become better than everyone else. That’s why I think drug testing should alter their way of testing to make the games even.
Do we really want student-athletes replacing hard work with steroids? That’s like cheating on a test. For instance, many have been abusing drugs in a way to make their performance on the court or field better. This is a practice athletes have been in for years to make them a better player or asset to the team. All who are participating in athletics should be guaranteed a safe and fair game instead of worrying about those taking a daily dose of drugs for their own pleasure. These actions they are taking are not only dangerous and unfair, but illegal. For those who do participate in the consumption of drugs, their should be a formidable punishment. Although some uninformed people might say drug testing is an unnecessary waste of time and money,
Eugene Robinson from the Washington post once stated “Most fans watch sports…to see people unlike themselves perform extraordinary physical feats. The superhuman quality of professional athletes is precisely what Americans admire about them” (CITE) Drug testing was created to stop the use of performance enhancements as artificial stimulants for physical and mental enhancements. (CITE) Drugs which are used by athletes in all types of sports have many advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, laws were created to keep an equal playing field.
These are the main reasons I believe high school sports players should be drug tested. The effects of marijuana or any other type of drug is bad with sports. If they were drug tested, it would help the team improve as a
Dick Butkus, a retired pro football hall of famer, stated, “There is a myth out there that somehow anabolic steroids can turn a cub into a bear. Steroids won’t make you tough and competitive. What they will do is ruin your health. It’s that simple,” on his opinion about the use of steroids. Although the stance against the use of performance enhancing drugs is clear to Dick, not everyone agrees on the topic. Many players, ranging in all sports at different levels, have used PEDs (Performance Enhancing Drugs) at least once in their career to better their abilities and performances. Some of those players have been caught and have been rightfully punished for their use; however, others get away with using PEDs and remain praised above their opposition. I believe that the use of performance enhancing drugs is wrong and should continue to be banned morally by the fans and legally by the commissioners. There are few positives to using PEDs, which ignite the urge for players to become better at their sport for fame, money, or success. Nonetheless, the negatives immensely outweigh the positives. The use of performance enhancing drugs creates detrimental health risks on athletes, changes the way sports were originally meant to be played for the worse, and shows unacceptable influence on fans and children.
Athletes using performance enhancing drugs has been a problem since the late 1990’s. For the athletes the use of steroids are cheap, easy to access, and effective; that is until now. Collegiate Student Athletes should be drug tested every season for illegal substances before they are allowed to play. There are many reasons why these athletes should be tested, such as the negative effect steroids have on their bodies, the drugs are illegal to use, and if caught using these drugs the athletes careers could be over.
“Professional athletes get paid on average from $16000- $500 million (Schwartz).” Many professional athletes go to extra activities outside of practice or games because of how much money they produce. Professional athletes shouldn’t have to take a drug test because it improves skills, there will be more fans in the stadiums, and fairness will be balanced because they couldn’t find a way to cheat. Stopping drug tests will bring in more money for each sport, and this would generate the player's safety better. The organizations can afford better equipment which will generate fewer injuries. If athletes get better equipment, it will make injuries go down tremendously. Hopefully, they stop drug tests in professional sports.
There is evidence saying that athletes would use drugs if they knew that taking them would ensure they would win but not be caught. This shows that if there was no risk many of our athletes would put their bodies under too much stress by putting harmful products into their systems.
Besides the long list of negative side effects that steroids bring, they also ruin the integrity of sports. Sports are all about working hard and striving through adversity in order to reach a goal. Steroids only give athletes a shortcut that is an easy way out to reaching that goal. Before performance enhancing drugs became a world wide phenomenon athletes were forced to use their only option of working out naturally and pushing themselves beyond their limits in order to be the best that they can be. Now a day’s, many athletes do not have the same dedication and work ethic to earn their results the old fashion and natural way. Whether or not the use of performance enhancing drugs should be allowed in sports should depend on the purpose and intentions of their use.
Sports illustrated interviewed a cohort (group of people) of elite Olympic athletes, asking, “If you were given a performance-enhancing substance, you would not be caught, and you would win, would you take it? Ninety-eight percent of athletes answered yes.”(Charleston) That is a big number. Big risk with such a small chance of success. Taking drugs to enhance your performance is just not right. Striving to get better, takes patience and perseverance. Athletes are known for their road they take to get to where they are today. Along with jail time, athletes that commit illegal acts should be banned from their sport, for their careers will never be the same, children should not look up to athletes who do those things, and the chance of losing
“All Athletes should report to the locker room for your Drug Testing”! Why should all athletes be drug tested? Well, it’s very simple - it makes the sport fair and not only that the athlete should remind his/her self that they need to have eligibility to play their sport. Because without that the player won’t be able to play or practice with their team sometimes they can’t even talk to there own teammates. For example Cleveland Browns Wide Receiver Josh Gordon failed his drug test and wasn’t able to play or practice for the entire 2015 NFL season. This example proves that all athletes should be healthy and follow the team's protocol, so they don’t have to deal with not playing the sport they love. So with that being said, All Athletes, should think twice before they do drugs because if not that player will suffer severe consequences of not playing or practicing with their team.
Drugs should be banned in all sports. They have been a problem for a long time. Athletes use them to enhance their body and for simply just the edge. There is nothing wrong with using some drugs to enhance your body as long as they are legal. The problems that come with drugs in sports are how to detect them. Some professional sports, such as the NHL, do not even use drug tests. The only sports that test for everything are the NBA and NFL. The Major League Baseball only tests for illegal drugs such as marijuana and cocaine. They do not test for steroids or any other kind of pill. The reason for this is because the player’s union will not allow these tests. They are currently voting to reconsider this idea. The other problem is that drug
Many people believe that drug use in professional athletics is not a serious problem, however it is more widespread and serious than people think. In professional athletics the use of drugs is looked upon as somewhat of a serious problem, but is also very discrete and low key. Every once in a while one might see a prominent figure in a certain sport being reprimanded for the use of some outlawed drug, however this is just one of the many who happened to get caught. Athletes today seem to find no moral problem with using performance-enhancing drugs, or in other words cheating. Also many of them feel that because they are "stars" there should be no repercussions for their illegal activity.
